  1. Hi all,

Been a while since i posted on here. Drifted away from watches for a bit but now back at it again.

Was going through some old drawers and came across a project I picked up a long long time ago that I never got around to doing. It is a DW 6239 w/ modified A7750. Currently it is setup as a PN but I also got an albino dial and hands for it. The hour counter is drifting so I bought a new clutch lever for it as well. Put it all in a box and forgot about it.

So upon finding it I figured I should finally get this thing done. I need to pull it apart to change the clutch lever and was going to reassemble with the Albino parts. Where I am having difficulty is removing the movement from the case, of all things. I don't know why it won't come out and I didn't want to force it so thought I would hit up the experts here, in case there was some trick that I am just not seeing. I've torn down and built up tons of watches but this one has me stumped 🤥. If anyone has any advice or suggestions I am all ears 👂

    Thanks

  2. Many gens and rep ETAs just do it, nothing to worry about.

+1. Ideally the length of the stem coupled with the crown travel to de-clutch from the stem would prevent this from happening. However, in the case of most automatics it is not possible to over wind so it really is not an issue. I would not worry about it.

  3. Easiest tell with the exception of a few super clones that are out there is the balance jewel retainer housing. The housing on the ETA has 3 relief cut outs to insert/remove the balance jewel cap retainer. The clone only has one. In 99% of cases this can be used to identify quickly if it is gen or not.

  4. Very shocked and sad to hear. He was always great to chat with and very helpful. He was the fuel to my fire when I started out wanting to work on my own watches. In a way, without him, I would not be where I am, horologically speaking. My thoughts and best wishes to his family.

  5. DO NOT replace the movement! At least not yet.

Many quartz movements require a "reset" to be performed after battery replacement. Usually involves shorting the + side of the battery to a terminal marked with "+" on the back side of the movement. Once you do this the movement should restart.

If it was stuttering it was telling you it had low voltage from the battery, indicating that it was time to replace it. Based on this I doubt the movement also needs replacing. I would bet it just needs a reset. If you can pull off the movement model number and show a picture I am sure we can get it going.
