  1. i love IWC, so my opinion will be biased. but i'm a BIG fan of the second hand market. a Port Chrono 3714 (7750 based) can be had for $4k and an Ingy 3227 in the $3500 range. Both watches are iconic in status and can be easily flipped or traded. if you are looking at an Aquatimer, I'd hold out and look for a 3536, the older 2000m model with the rotating outer bezel. the inner bezel models don't hold their value as well. if you're more of a Pam guy, a gen 104 or 164 can be found second hand for $4-4.5K and a gen 111 or 112 for $3.5K. You can even find used Daylights for less than $6K. I'd buy a couple high quality gens with the $7K and enjoy twice the pleasure.
  2. thanks for posting this.... looks like i'll sit and wait for a better version. i'm also thinking of springing for a gen galapagos, especially if they can't super rep these new Aquatimers.
  3. i would get a GMT and a Yachtmaster for something different. If you want a dressier Rolex, you could pick up a DJ or Day-Date. they're classic timepieces....
  4. The Skyland and Day Dates are much better reps than the INgy. The Ingy is a good rep, but not a super rep. I owned a gen Ingy and compared it side by side with the rep 3227 at a GTG and you could EASILY spot the tells. The one from Hont has the datewheel problem and the shorter minute hand. Those are the two easiest tells, right away. Anyone who knows anything about the Ingy can see that right away. Go on the Pam forums and see how those guys pick apart a dial. Doesn't matter Little Hero, DSN, etc etc. People who know the brand, know their watches. If you start throwing franken watches together with gen dials, that's a different story, but this Ingy is an obvious fake. We've gone over this over and over again....... DON'T TAKE YOUR REP WATCHES INTO AN AD!!
  5. is this post for real? an IWC AD could tell this watch is a fake in a blink of an eye. the Ingy bracelet is one of the easiest to resize. why would you need to have someone do it for you? shouldn't be a hard for someone with all of your degrees..... sigh
  6. i've dealt with mark before. good communication and lightning fast shipping from china. definitely recommend timeshops
  7. it seems you like the beautiful styling of IWC's. if you like the portuguese line, look at the FA Jones or a Portuguese model with running seconds at 9. the Port chrono 3714 with running seconds at 6 is a beautiful watch, but the rep movement is not reliable. the FA Jones is a nice manual-wind with a display back and can be had for $100-130 from the dealers. if you want to get a sportier watch for your friend, take a look at some of the Omega's or Breitling's with the Asian 21J movements. some of them are spot-on with the gen and have a gen feel and weight to them.
  8. the 3714 wears larger on the wrist because of the thinner bezel. there's a cream colored dial as well as some of the other ones mentioned. you can easily purchase a light brown croc strap from IWC, so that is not a reliable differentiator. the 3714 rep on the wrist still carries enormous presence and is indistinguishable from gen. you would need to hold it close-up to see any tells at all.
  9. love all the older models. the 1665, 1680, 5513. the newer ones are nice, but they don't stand up to the classics. i was surprised to see the 14060M and 16610 picked by so many. i guess they'll be classics in their own right with time.....
  10. i think someone may have told you already, but it means being processed or in processing.
  11. I don't know if I would call it a Volkswagen..... They are very well made watches, higher grade steel, in house movements, and almost all COSC certified. They are a step above the ETA-based movements of Omega and Breitling. Personally, for the price of most Rolex models, I like IWC or Blancpain. But there's a place for Rolex in my collection. Yes, Rolex is overpriced. But you're paying for the name recognition and "prestige". It's the same reason why people pay more for LV, Gucci, Prada, etc etc I think calling a Rolex a Mercedes is fairly accurate. Some of the Mercedes share the same platform as Chrysler's, so they may not be as "upscale" as they seem and you're paying for the name; much like Rolex. Bentley's are among the upper echelon of cars. Only the Rolex precious metal watches launch them into tens of thousands. All the SS models are less than $10K, just the vintage SS models get a little pricey due to consumer demand. They're not at the level of Patek Philipe, A Lange & Sohne, Breguet, Audemars Piguet, etc etc
  12. When i first started becoming interested in watches, i didn't care for Rolex at all. I thought they were overpriced and just a marketing machine. However, as I started learning more about watches, I began to appreciate Rolex for what they are. They have timeless designs with reliable in-house movements. As a lover of all watches, it's hard to ignore Rolex. I now have a gen vintage DJ and reps of vintage Daytona and BK GMT. On order for BK's SubLV and SD. I probably won't ever buy a modern Rolex, except for maybe the Sub LV, but I am a lover of all of the vintage Rolexes and in negotiation with a fellow for his 1680 Red Sub. So never say never, your taste in watches will change with time and Rolex will still be around
  13. $330 for a rattrapante? I'll pay you $2000 for the watch..... you getting the idea? there is no way the watch he's selling to you is genuine. even if the watch was stolen, he could sell it on TZ or a pawn shop for ALOT MORE MONEY than $330. like someone mentioned, you can fly to wisconsin to do a face-to-face deal, pay him $330 and still come up WAY ahead.

    IWC Mark XVI

WM9 creates the most accurate Rolex reps in the market. The BK WM9's are the best of the best. genuine Swiss movements, accurate weight and feel and arguably the best dials. his current offerings are the Sub, YM, and soon to be released SubLV (this summer), and SD (end of 2009). the reps are all 1:1 and are 100% interchangeable with gen parts. http://www.rwg.cc/members/wm9-Seadweller-p...r-s-t88771.html http://www.rwg.cc/members/Annoucing-WM9-V2-BK-t85804.html http://www.rwg.cc/members/wm9-tt-lv-preord...mpa-t89867.html

    IWC Mark XVI

i don't know if y'all heard the news from WM9 of Rolex fame. his new project log has a Mark XVI for the future. it was BK's idea! with WM9's reputation, it will be a 1:1 rep. http://www.watchmaker9.tv/projectlog/projectlog.htm
  16. too funny..... the most asked question in the whole rep world.

    Ingenieur

looks gen to me. i'm comparing the pic to the gen i own and it looks the same. i had the chance to compare side by side the rep Inge vs Gen recently and the dead giveaways are the date font and hands. I have seen a datewheel mod for the rep Inge, but not the hands. the lines are also a little crisper with the gen (obviously) and there is a slight weight difference. the rep bracelet is very good, but still has a slight "cheap" look to it only when compared to the gen.
  18. New strap from usedtoluvavdub from RG, made from a vintage baseball glove. He may be a member of RWG as well? Got the watch from Siesta181 and I've been promising some pics of the watch. Enjoy!
