Two hour power reserve on my new Panerai ...
sssurfer replied to wheaton26's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Wheaton, that thing that the watch is going slightly better with use suggests there might be just a problem with lubrication... Why don't you try and have it serviced? My 7750 050 (same as 049) stopped after 1 week. I had it serviced, and the watchsmith said it was just unbelievably dirty. A good cleaning and oiling, and it ran (and still it's running) like a gen. -
I too bet they are on AR coating rather than on the sapphire surface. While I recently discovered (the hard way) that some special silicate grinds may actually scratch (not polish) sapphire, I strongly doubt that scratches would look like dust spots in such a case. Your best option is to completely remove the AR coating. If those spots disappear that way, then they will get confirmed not affecting the sapphire, and you may have the crystal AR coated again afterwards.

C'mon folks, with all those new Submersibles, Arktos and so out there, paid way over 200 USD, I can't believe that so few people are interested in getting a step towards perfection at a mere 25-30 USD! And a step that is not merely aesthetic, but actually enhances the way you enjoy your watch. Date readability is not trivial, isn't it?

Wow archibald, that is great news! I did not figure you were at that point! Thanks!!

177h Oxycleaned And W/davidsen Sapphire Crystal
sssurfer replied to subzero1's topic in The Panerai Area
Yes, I found a kit that promised to turn SS to dark grey. Too bad I have its address on a computer that is currently undergoing major fixing. I should be able to retrieve it in a few days. -
The logo is great. I also like the red-and-white-writings-on-dark-grey-background. Congrats on the choice of a PAM back as well, it's enough to qualify you as a connoisseur and a man of taste. The font of "affordable luxuries" is almost unreadable. On a first look, it looks as "azzordable". One cannot look at the girl with the bag. Delete. She's ridicolous (apart from ugly).

The so-called Asian 21j is a copy of the Miyota 82xx movements, which are quite similar each other. I think they do not differ in their datewheel, but you'd better focus on the 8215.

I too am interested in these. The last and only new I got was that archibald was vaguely taking into consideration whether taking it into consideration or else...

Just Got In Lello's 2892/93 Bold Datewheels
sssurfer replied to reelamore's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
It goes without saying that I confirm my order with you for one 2892-A2, Mark. -
Hi lello, WB. I'm not in the submersibles, but I suspect that if you connect to our dealers' new sites you might find something interesting.
-
Welcome back, Lello! You are returning on the topic exactly at the same time that Finepics is releasing his 2893 and 2892-A2 datewheels. Count me in for 1, anyway (if it fits the 2892-A2). The more, the better! Just, I may assure you that your previous wheels did not fit the 2892-A2 (Power Reserve), only the 2893 (GMT).

Surely Admin, I was not by any means suggesting it's your fault, I was just opening my heart.

Welcome to the club, boomer. Just politely point it out to your wife that a lover would take much more of your time, attention and money than a watch forum. (That is not true, but your wife does not need to know it).

Well, what I can say is that before knowing of RWG, TRC and so, I thought to be one of the only 100 people in the world to be in knowledge of (and in love with ) something called Panerai. I got really surprised (and naturally delighted) in discovering they were considered "hot". Even on those premises, it is quite a long time now I that did not purchase a PAM. In my case this is due to the choice, by the Officine, to produce as new models essentially sandwich-dial models and sub models, or sub-like e.g. the Arktos. I love sandwich dials, but as long as they prevent from date window I think I am not going to get one of them -- or at most one. And I don't like the PAM subs and Arktos. Nevertheless, I think that PAMs are here to stay. Once you try a large watch on your wrist it is quite hard to step back. And once you try something with the easy readability and strong charachter of a PAM, it is even harder. I suppose that any time the Officine (or rep manufacturers ) would release a new really appealing model then we'll witness a new rush of interest. But people like me seem currently getting tired of purchasing a new PAM just because it's a PAM. And I feel this is good.

Just a word about advs. Some time ago I clicked on an Amazon adv, went there, ended up in buying some stuff (winding boxes), and finally Amazon said they were not going to sell those items outside US. I felt quite unspurred to click on advs again, and still I feel this way.

Personally, I dive with a Scubapro 300m and I hardly feel any need for it, due to the diving computer. I also think that members' concerns about waterproof does not apply on scuba diving but occasional swimming. Who would go scuba diving with a rep or any watch not guaranteed to 20 bar?

Pam: Wrong Way To Place A New Cyclops
sssurfer replied to sssurfer's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
It is slightly domed, but I don't mind to replace it with a flat one, chieftang, thanks! It is 35.7 mm diameter. Thickness is not an issue. -
Wow. Just a few days ago I had 'waterproof' test performed on the two APROs that I got from Josh, and both they passed the test without a blink...

Well, if you really like large watches, have a looke at this Narikaa's watch. It is declared as 4005 mm -- just a bit more than 4 meters wide. Crown excluded.

Pam: Wrong Way To Place A New Cyclops
sssurfer replied to sssurfer's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
@rbj69: Hi Joe, you are right, but I actually prefer not to enter into a discussion with my watchsmith, as I consider I have been lucky in finding a local watchsmith that is decently skilled (crystals apart ) and willing to work on reps. @Finepics: Thanks, Mark! PM sent. -
So it seems we are at 6 now. I can't believe the Kruzer00 did not pop up yet, I am pretty sure he owns a 028A. Perhaps he's in direct touch with Finepics... Mark, I have no access to RWI these times, I suppose you advertised there too? (yes, this is just a useless - but bumping - post )

In this case you should have not bought a Honda, but almost any US or European car (preferably a Fiat)
