Ok, so my watchsmith and I went wrong in the end. 1st error - I gave him an AR coated sapphire crystal to place a 'watchmen' cyclops on it (I know, Mark, you warned against it! I must have been out of my mind). 2nd error - He placed it -- and the glue made a mess on AR coating. 3rd error - He tried to strip the mess out by grinding the crystal even before telling me. So i now have a bold brand new badly scratched (on the inside) sapphire crystal. I would like to know if there is a way to polish it again. Sapphire being so hard (the hell knows how my watchsmith managed to scratch it that way) common abrasives don't work. :black_eye: I read of diamond abrasive paste, but I seem unable to find it on the net (or elsewhere). Any hint / suggestion / link, fellow modders?

That's true, Chronus! You seem not paying enough attention on these topics these times, though... Did you find a girl that made you dizzy at last?

Yes, the 028A had no AR coating. I suppose the 027A had not as well, as it was contemporary and very similar with the 028A (differing on PVD and flat dial only).

Records Were Not Sorted Correctly By Time
sssurfer replied to dvn's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Hi Admin, here is a capture pic of an uncorrect result on retrieving my posts. Apart from the odd (empty) overall looking, the Post Preview # on the bottom points to a completely different thread. Thanks, I hope this helps in locating some problems... -
Hi Chronus, better you post your request for the 028 on the 2892-A2 datewheels thread! This should help Mark in keeping his mind clear, and it would also work for a bump!
-
A great post in a few words, Chronus! Congrats and thanks! Those who missed the watchmen cyclopses (and those who grabbed them as well) might want to have a look at the new chieftang cyclops thread.

OMG! All what I can think of is that the metal was cooling at a faster pace than crystal (which can happen especially if the crystal is sapphire). In this situation the Fiddy is more exposed than other models to crystal explosion due to its large size and its specially shaped (domed but thin) crystal. Sorry for what happened, good you already found a possible replacement.

On Rolex I am more than a noob, I am a complete ignorant, but, as I had to beat my head against the PAM cyclops and get a smattering of optics, here I wish to reassure the Rolexers fellows that their concerns about the date mag might actually be oversized. First, it would be impossible for the date image to fill the cyclops almost completely without showing distortion along the borders. If you found pictures of date filling the cyclops, those pictures must have beeen retouched. On PAMs we found that even the pics on the official site had been retouched. Real gens showed lesser magnification than the 'official' pics. Second, magnification may even vary on different exemplars of a same model, due to tolerances, different production batches, different thickness of the gasket on which the crystal sits (which affects the distance between the cyclops and the date window that greatly affects actual magnification). So, as long as magnification is acceptable, it does not make for a feature that qualifies your watch as a rep. Third, if you are really unsatisfied with your cyclops (because of bad centering on the date axis, or poor mag power, or what), re-positioning it or replacing it with a better cyclops should be quite simple due to its being placed on the outside of the crystal. And, while websurfing in search for PAM cyclopses, I stumbled upon tons of Rolex aftermarket crystals and cyclopses for a few dollars. So, keep up! With apologies for my intrusion.

Hi chieftang, I am interested in 6 pieces. If you are going to get AR coating on some lenses, I would take 3 pieces AR coated and 3 naked.

Very sorry to read of your loss, TTK. Have my condolences.

GREAT! 1 FOR ME!!! p.s.: thanks, Mark! (p.p.s.: first again, Chronus! )

Hey Check Out My Ubimariner Inspired Sub ;) .
sssurfer replied to 2005SUBMARINER's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Congrats, it looks 1000 times better than the black bezel! On a watch like that, I could even consider purchasing a Rolex rep... -
A good choice indeed! You wil find PR very useful. It is my favourite complication: I have a 027, a 028 and a 090. I opted for a 090 rather than a 124/126 so far, just because I think that a black backround enhances the readability of the small seconds subdial. But I also have to admit that, on the 124 and 126, the absence of those individual minute markers all around the border of the dial gives the watch a much more elegant overall look, more 104-style. Just, next time, go for 44 mm! I got a 050 as my first rep, but I soon found that 44mm PAMs are very confortable even on my small wrist.

Are Those Folks At Paypal Out Of Their Minds?
sssurfer replied to blueclub's topic in The looney bin
Sorry to hear your troubles, blueclub. On paypal I had a Personal Account for some months, then I upgraded to a Premiere Account to sell some stuff (the cyclopses...), and I never had any problems. As you know, Italian residents cannot have a paypal link to their bank account, so all funds are taken from CC (unless on the paypal account there is some money paid by someone). -
Happy Postmaster, Dutchy!

Reporting From Replica Capital, Guangzhou
sssurfer replied to bklm1234's topic in General Discussion
Only the hell knows. But it was from a reputed member/dealer (Narikaa? EL?). He also assured that it would make beggers, pushers and bad-stuff sellers running away in screams. -
All members who bought some PAMs and don't like them are kindly begged to send them to me. I'll relieve their annoyances for free. I am even going to cover the shipping costs (as long as they are not like on some eBay items...) All interested pls PM or email me.

Great report, thanks! Maybe it's too late now, but to find the good stuff you might want to present this card to any taxi or seller: It was provided some time ago from a member I can't remember now (Narikaa?) -
Is This The Dumbest Thing You've Ever Heard? Or Not?....
sssurfer replied to a topic in General Discussion
As you put no option button for the "yes" choice (while you put it on both the "no" choices), this goes quite a way in saying what you are really heading to... -
The problem comes from a gasket, but as it only appeared in a hot environment, not in a cold environment (even if at higher pressure) or warm environment ('hot' plunge pool), it's unlikely coming from a pinched gasket. More likely, the gasket does not compensate for the metal dilatation with heat. Possibly an old gasket that lost its elasticity, or (even more likely) not properly sealed with silicon grease one of the times that the watch has been opened and closed? Just my 0.02.

What Replicacenter Has To Say About Rwg.cc
sssurfer replied to thomasng's topic in General Discussion
Well, now that's really too much to bear! I bore anything with from site so far... the sleepless nights... the hours subtracted to my work, my family, my real life... the money disappeared from my bank account... the files becoming more and more filled with watches, straps, crystals, crowns, cyclopses, glues, gaskets, tools, etc... the offending avatars and signatures... the censorship on offending avatars and signatures... but now I simply can't stand the awareness to be on a recognized scam site that is even recognized by Replicacenter! I am leaving too. -
Not only the band! At least if we mean 'plastic' and not only rubber... Actually, the description says that even the case is policarbonate and steel. I suspect that the only steel part might be the caseback.
