  1. seanf--

great find. We can now take it for sure it's a rotating bezel. Thanks!

    TJ--

    you are absolutely correct.

Unfortunately, I doubt it is a pic of the watch that the dealer actually has for sale.

I suspect it's a pic of a gen that was put on offer on the bay on some past time.

Isn't the small photocamera icon in the lower right corner sort of an eBay "mark"?

  2. So if I read you right M, none of the other cases are an option if you want to keep the original spacer ring?

You may keep the spacer ring but in this case you have to change the caseback, you cannot keep the "original" 028 caseback. :black_eye:

That is what happened with 2 out of the 4 Asian auto cases I tried.

Between replacing the caseback or the spacer ring, I would prefer replacing the spacer ring.

At least this is as far as with the cases I gave a try.

BTW, I also tried a few handwind cases, Homer's included, and they did not work. Wrong stem aligment as expected.

  3. Sorry Dani, it happens to get engaged with family time on weekends, and there were also a lot of other threads who got me distracted.

    I would say gen.

Just, can you ask for a straight front pic, not a one taken at a skewed angle?

A pic where the logo and the "L SWISS L" text can show up properly?

  4. A few new info to add on the case swap issue (shame on me, I just disassembled my 028 for the nth time -- I just hope it's for a good reason :) ).

Surely neither handwind cases nor 7750 cases would fit. Hard to find two movements more different than the 2892-A2 (the thinnest movement around) and the 7750 (the tickest).

Out of 4 Asian auto cases I just tried, they all fitted the 2892-A2 movement & dial in a snap, with perfect alignement of the stem.

Rather, problems came out from the spacer ring or the caseback.

Two of those cases fitted the 028 metal spacer ring, but not the caseback.

The other twos fitted the caseback, but not the spacer ring.

In consideration that the caseback is something that can be looked at without opening the watch, differently from the spacer ring, I am leaning towards replacing the "original" spacer with a plastic one.

I think I'll end up with going for it, for the sake of leaving the "original" case at home & untouched...

  5. The Bulgari is shown in full view at about middle movie, but soon after the beginning, right before Stark gets under attack by the bad guys in Afghanistan, I seemed to have a quick glance at a HBB too.

Please anyone who is going to see the movie would check?

  6. I have seen that date wheel or simular on lots of new rep 090/104 lately

104: Yes -- even if not at this level.

090: Great. Please post even just 1 link to 1 of the lots you saw, you will make many 090 lovers happy.

You Dog !!! ... You do not know how often i wonder or "Hope" that this project has not been abandoned !!!!! .. i do not wear my PR's and dream of a DW for these.. if I recall M.. this was my first communication with you on this board... about a correct Date font for these beauties...

this has given .. me .. as we say in Hawaii... "Chicken Skin" ... (goose bumps). :o .. when.... When?????

    thanks

    R

edit add ... actually I think this priject goes back to 06 .... You cannot imagine the shock and awe when i saw the pics just before I ran out of the house this morning .....:pray::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::pray::throb::weight_lift2::yahoo::Jumpy::Jumpy:

Your memory is better than mine, R. We talked of so many topics that I was missing this was the reason for our 1st encounter. Glad to revive it. Actually, this project never got buried... just, so many projects running here... :)

Thanks for your appreciation, I'll keep you posted.

Beatiful mods!!! Please let us know where and when can we get the DW and cyclops.

    Thanks, A.!

Actually, it's all about the DW, cyclops is just cosmetic (correct 7mm instead of native 6mm -- and even a bit overpowered).

And the DW is complete merit of another member here, a great member, not mine.

I'll be happy to give more details as soon as (and especially if) I get permission from him. I am unsure he is willing to take the matter to large number level. :(

Congrats on an excellent project. :D

    Thanks, W.!

Now, if only I could find a better case... ;)

  7. If i sent out the case for beadblasting and gen PVD, will the PVD cover up the current dark grey/black color or will it just make the new PVD darker than it should be because it's already starting with a dark oolor.

Once properly beadblasted & recoated, the former look, color & surface should be no matter anymore.

If that's the case, maybe I should source a replacement SS Case.

Even if that's not the case, I am considering submitting a new case to the new beadblasting & PVD coating process (if any).

This way, the former PVD coat would not be left completely useless, I would hold it as a backup option.

Do any of our experts here now if the movement will fit a standard rep case, and which case would be most accurate.

In spite of its PR module, the 2892-A2 movement is one of the thinnest movements around, so it should be no problem to fit into another case.

Which case may be the most accurate, I would like to hear PAMman's advice or by our other expert members.

  8. Sssurfer-

I did the original Palp finish on beadblasted case and it came out looking like every other DLC. And the funny things is that was an OEM supplier to PAM who had stopped using the Ti finishes and only did DLC. Mine looked almost rubbery

Uhm... I think I cannot say mine looks rubbery... Here are some pics:

    - until I was dumb enough to drop it on the street. :bangin:

I did exactly the same!!! :bangin::bangin:

  9. hmmmm you guys mean i should use the PALP crown as sample??? :g:

in this case it was the best if "PALP" or "Pam" should produce new pieces... this would be easier as they have the tools to produce this crowns. I must build the tools... and this is very expensive and takes 3-4 months from factory.

Both palp and PAM disappeared, and even before vanishing PAM was not a champion in communication... But the main point is that their crowns were far from perfect.

If you can produce a crown like their 2mm version, without their flaws, that would already be great.

If you can even add a spring like in Lello's crown, that would be awesome.

  10. That would be great, t!

In consideration of your reliability, skillness and precision, I am sure these would come out as a gorgeous product. I would surely be in for several.

Personally, I think that palp's/PAM's crowns were the best in shape (especially the number of teeth, and the fact that no tube mod was needed), and Lello's crowns were the best in manifacturing as they had a spring.

(I do not like the gen crowns currently available, IMHO. Too rounded edges to my eyes. Not like the most recent crowns on gen Pams).

But even without the spring, if you were just able to replicate the palp's crown without its flaws, that would be great.

  11. @sssurfer....was your watch NOT beatblasted before coating????

    Honestly, unsure about it.

When I got my 028 back from palp's PVD coating, there was a slight improvement on the rep-PVD shiny look -- but surely not at the level of other PVD coatings that made their appearance lately, like kye_lin's, rolli's and ajoesmith's.

one year of buying reps is enough  and already cost $1000 in material - please don
  12. Are we talking about beadblasting too?

I got my 028 case PVD coated by the company found by palp (the same company that was once performing PVD coating on gen Pams), and as you can guess by the fact that I am still searching elsewhere, I am not completely satisfied with it.

And I bet it is because of lacking a proper beadblasting in advance.

So my interest in a new PVD coat is bound with a new & good beadblasting.

  13. I have a 147 -- similar to the 163, but with a 3rd subdial (actually just linked to the hour hand).

It is still running well after about two years, chrono included. But I am not using it as a daily beater, rather only on special occasions.

  14. Sad about your troubles, Jay.

I really hope that Davidsen's QC will soon come back to his usual standard at least -- but especially that he will immediately sort out your issues as well as those of all currently unsatisfied members.
