  1. Thanks, gavidoc.

Case is from a minifiddy that I got from TWP.

I did not try it with a 7750, but I doubt it would fit. Unfortunately, the 7750 is the thickest movement used on PAM reps: 7.9mm.

While minifiddy's original 6497 is 4.5mm, and the Asian 21J that I used is 6.1mm (and I got a feeling that it was almost the thickest that that case could bare).

I plan to have a try with a Seagull movement 7.4mm thick in a next future, but it is not on top of my scheduled tasks.

  2. I just need to put superluminova on the dial ( the hands is already much brighter than the diakmarkers ! ) on my Fiddy and that is perhaps not so difficult ??

Yes, reluming a sandwich dial is not a difficult task at all.

But do You know any other dealer on this board that can put real superluminova on my dial ?

I thought it was ONLY The Zigmeister that has the real Superluminova ????

I suppose you are meaning "modder" rather than "dealer".

AFAIK, all modders use SL. In order to be sure, just make it clear with them that what you want is only SL.

The problem is that, again AFAIK, there are very few modders able and reliable on relume jobs.

  3. Do You know if privat consumers can buy from them ( I know The Zigmeister does ! ) ?

Yes they do. Just tell them that you are an amateur/hobbyst watchsmith.

The only problem I got on purchasing from them is that they do not accept CC nor paypal -- and in my country international bank wire transfers are subject to scandalous bank fees, that add up to the already scandalous price of Superluminova.

Fortunately, in the end they agreed to get paid with money in an envelope (!)

  4. Sanro, Vicky, capice, frankt:

really thanks. This appreciation from you and the other members who posted here is going to drive this project even further.

    frankt -

unfortunately the CG is not big enough to cover the chrono pushers holes. Shame, as I would be more than happy to use your case on this project.

But your crystal is going to have a major role in it. I plan to send it to chieftang for double AR coating, then I'll place a cyclops on it and it will become the new SURFTECH crystal (keeping the current one as a backup).

Fortunately, minifiddy's and 212's crystals are the same size.

Your dial will replace my 212 dial after a relume.

Finally, your movement will go to my watchsmith to see if he can fix it. I could not submit it to him so far as I already got him overwhelmed with my other projects.

  5. If you want to go for an "ultimate" 111h, I think you should start with the "Swiss Unitas" version, as it looks better in the "L SWISS MADE L" placement (an impossible fix once you get the Asian version).

Also, I am very unsure that the Asian pin is not recessed.

Here is a 3x detail of the Asian version, where you can have a better look at the pin and "L SWISS MADE L" placement:

  6. @ petergunny:

DSN AR is single side like the gen.

Member Pam used to sell improved crowns -- originally "palpatine's (palp's) crowns".

Besides of that, OEM crowns are occasionally offered on eBay.

Both may require replacing or trimming the crown tube, though. I have no DSN case to try it, but I am currently waiting for a sample from DSN to test.

Surely the gen lever is brushed. And I did not notice that DSN's is polished. Thanks for pointing it out!

Brushing a lever is a very easy task with a brushing pen than can be found on eBay. I remember that "The Watch Boys" used to sell it -- as several other sellers too that I can't remember right now.

    @ gianton:

    Congrats on your purchase!

Very interested in your opinion and pics once you'll get the watch.

  7. Reading this ongoing discussion with so much interest, and waiting for further details.

Still, even before reading more, I wish to add my congrats to asad on this great timepiece right now. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  8. I plan to try it again on a watch that I just ordered and that I should have here in 2-3 weeks.

As I want to erase any texts and all the original black paint and repaint it in brown, I'll have a chance to perform some tests on it before removing anything. We'll see.

(cskent, this is exactly for my minifiddy project that I posted elsewhere. I have a few ideas to try and preserve the white lines around the small seconds hand. If it works, I'll let everyone know).

  9. I am impressed by DSN's new 104... any info if there is any available? DSN won't answer my email sent yesterday. :(

AFAIK, DSN is not always immediate in his replies, especially on weekend time. Maybe you'll get your reply on monday (late monday, in EU).

Also, he said he was having problems with email. Did you use his alternative davidsenjpn@gmail.com ?

  10. When you refer to the problems with the ETA 2892-A2, are your referring to the genuine ETA? I thought it was used in quite a few high priced genuine watches. Could one expect to have to manually wind one of these high end watches every third day?

I am referring to my [supposed] genuine ETA 2892-A2 PAM 028A.

But my point is not about the 2892-A2 being a bad or good movement. It is known to be an excellent movement, The Zigmeister confirms it, and that's enough to me.

Most likely, I have so sedentary habits to not allow that movement to autowind properly. My fault, not of the movement.

My point is that the ST 2530 is instead even forgiving me for so sedentary habits. :)

  11. Looks very similar to a DSN dial to me. The shape of the 2 in 12 and fat crossbar at the top of the 3 look just like my DSN dial. The "L Swiss Made L" looks to be slightly different position than mine. The sheen of the dial and indices are just the same as my dial, though. I say rep, but a VERY good one.

If your pic is of a DSN watch, then I second DSN origin for Ubiq's dial.

  12. Unusual? Nah.

Unusual would have been a picture of you & a Sub on the bird's arm.......at least in my neck of the woods (the birds around here all wear blingy Swatches anyway).

Bird? Who was talking of the bird?

I told it unusual 'cos there I wear a Sub rather than a PAM.

  13. I bought my submariner 14 years ago. I assumed it was indestructible. It only came off my wrist about a dozen times in the first 12 years. I average a 15 to 20 minute hot shower every day, have soaked in a hot tub for hours at a time, and held it under the tap while washing it with a cue tip. Never any problems. Maybe I just got lucky.

Well, the submariner is a true dive watch, so no need to call on luck. :)
