  1. To be honest TheMuck going with this watch beyond 30 meters is already beyond my PADI... It would make me happy if I would not have to take it of when entering a pool or going surfing. Isn't that the case with 90% of Sea Dweller owners. Everything beyond that would really amaze me and obviously it does...

For me this is a super rep already... What should you expect at a fraction of the cost of an original! Still good to torture it to see but don't be surprised if it crashes.. Have fun testing but let's not have gen expectations...

  2. To go short on MBW....

Gen crystal #39 superdome (if you find it), shape CG's and vintagize case, adjust caseback, fit seals, drill lug holes and fit gen spring bars, gen crown and tube, gen insert, correct hands, aging dial and hands, create HE valve, fit gen bracelet and end pieces, fit slow beat movement or gen movement. You can put anywhere from 50 to 1800 USD in this 1665. It will still be a rep.

  3. One thing DW is really hard to get to. I have been communicating with him for ages and my orders came always in pieces, incomplete and incorrect. He wants money for it everytime, when it is his fault that thing where wrongfully picked. SOmehow he is the only dealer my stuff got completely confiscated according to him but tracking numbers never worked... I have serious doubt with this guy. I managed to get one complete set but it cost me three times the initial offering and it is not worth the hassle. My advise... try to buy a set from a member here... and source your vj72 form a local watch specialist (ebay is to expensive and risky. Once the watch is complete it is really nice and you forget tha hassle.

  4. Stephane,

Great collection, well informed on the topic. Compliments. As I have been building sort of a same collection and even fitting genuine 1570 movements in these babies... one thing that makes a huge difference is to fit other hands. Clarks carries the 'significantly fatter hands' for ETA (Tudor) and 1570 as well. It makes the watch more balanced and stand absulutely out in MBW rep world. Big thumbs up for your taste!

  5. Nanuq,

This guy offers them for sale every two weeks or so. He is German. The same thing happened to me... had my sniper at 60 and went to 127 in the last seconds. I mailed the guy but never got a response... he is keeping them exclusive!!! They go for around that price every time...

So I decided to buy the 20$ white from Wholesaleoutlet99... it sucks... doesn't fit the 1570 properly it is way to thin and sloppy. Now I stick with the gen gold that was on the 1570. It kinda looks mega good with the ivory markers on the white sea dweller with the chocolate faided gen insert... Ivory and chocolate go well.... :D Really exlusive... I never received compliments for Rolex until now...

  6. A Masterpiece.

But it MUST have an HeV and gen bracelet.

Did you spray on the matte varnish before or after applying the Night Color?

I know I know... HE valve and better engravings are the last on the list... I sprayed the varnish before from 50cm distance...just one layer.... a very light haze just to get that little texture in...

  7. Well, you and I must do lunch together...I just got an MBW 1665 and this is the ultimate. I'm getting a dial/lume job, original crown, lug hole drilling/springbar, crystal replacement treatment in phase one. Phase two will be the movement. You filed the case to depth if I remember correctly?????

Ye... just file in an 45 degree angle and you are set... fits perfectly.

  8. @ crystal... The movement is held in place just like the gen... the screws are under the ridge and you screw them out to tighten the movement into place...

@Fxr ... When is a rep to expensive... Well this movement has cost 900 USD. The total watch now comes to 1800 USD.

Three reasons for me having build this Franken...

    - It's the ultimate test to see how close one can get by doing it yourself... This is the most awarding

    - The gen movement gives ease of mind that the engine is at least of the real deal... unlike fake Ferraris with a Fiero engine

    - The gen of this kind is not worth my 10.000 USD (in NL here is one for sale for 11.000 EURO!) to have the similar effect as this 1.800 usd one... I am dutch and you know what they say about us... we are cheap and proud of it!!!

The only thing about it is that you don't pass this one on to your kids... It just wouldn't feel right... It is for my personal use only and otherwise I will sell it (as a Franken rep!!)...

  9. I am very happy with the results of my MBW 1665. I think this one is forever....

    MBW 1665 white seadweller

CG's shaped and case vintagized (worked out well IMHO)

Gen vintage triplock crown and oem tube

    Gen tropic #39 superdome

Gen chocalate vintage bezel and pearl (yes! my watchmaker had it laying around and gave it with the service of the 1570!!)

Gen movement 1570 hack non-quickset date

    Caseback reworked

Dial vintagized with night colour and matte varnish

    Aftermarket 1570 hands

    Gen springbars fitted

Waterproofed and tested in the water myself... swimming and diving t0 10 meter with no problems.

All there is left is the escape valve....

    The results:
