wwhat are your thoughts on this case?.....and yes I know the insert isn't installed yet
Accepts 1560/1570 movement, crown position/opening is where it should be so no shimming needed as with the MBW 5513 case.
MBW 5513:
MBW 5513:
My MBW 5513 for comparison:
Thanks,
Kurt.

Build a beater of course. I hope this doesn't seem off topic but I have quite a few left over "sub-par" Submariner rep parts. So I desided to build a beater. A 2836-2 movement, a junky case (no need to mod the cgs), a NOS Zodiac red dot dial, a decrowned crown, a NATO and misc other parts. The big surprise is that the lume is excellent.
Hell,
That's a great looking beater.......look at you all Mr. watchsmith.......Nice!

Thickness of hair is 100 microns! 70 seems awfully thin!!
*fingers crossed*
Yeah, but hair under the cyclops isn't very appealing.....
-
Lello,
Great to see you apply your mastery to this project.
I will be in for at least 3.........a flat top 3 of course:-)

Here's my SubDweller.......
Great post and Awesome work on the Mods......A true work of art!
-
I'll play.....
This one is all Gen except for the MBW 5513 middle case and caseback.......
Who needs a date anyway?
-
I'll take one of each thank you very much.
I would leave the first one on the bracelet and I would wear the second on a NATO strap.
Yeah an Olive Nato......however, they are the same watch....top one is a NOS Gen service dial and hands for the 5513 and the bottom two are from NDTrading Re-dialed and matching hands.

This........
Or this......
Thanks in advance,
Kurt.

Gorgeous vintage beauty, Kurt!
Your Omega looks like it was kept in a drawer for over 40 years.
Your right, sometimes you can get very lucky and find a timeless minty vintage for a song. Any new solid 18K watch can easily run $2K and then some.
Enjoy!
Yep.....my watchmaker knows what I like and he always takes care of me and my watches.
-
It is solid 18kt gold and I picked it up for a song........btw, I don't sing real well
Opinions always welcome.
Regards,
Kurt.

Nice work and pictorial.......all the work adds to the enjoyment....

All Grandmaothers enjoy a bit of Laphroaig. I know my Scots grannie swore by it. Like a sailor.
I've looked and read cover to cover..........but I don't see a reference for "Laphroig" in my "Idiots guide to the KamaSutra"......I thought for sure it would be listed under the "Like a Frog" section.............I mean, any position that causes you to "swear like a sailor" would certainly become a Goto favorite for me.......can you elaborate?

I just recieved my super SD and its an awesome watch. However I cannot resize the bracelet. One screw is so tight I cannot budge it. The head of the screw is now all beat up from trying to remove it. Another screw just spins and wont come out. I tried soaking in WD40 overnight but stll no luck. Please help..its a present for my father!!!!
What kind of bracelet is it? Rivet or Oyster? Hollow or solid mid link?......c'mon man, how can I help if I don't know these things......

Ahh, you mean she was Irish? Good call. You can't mess that.

P.S.: Your writer's strike rejoinder has me giggling every time I think of it.
Yes well, don't get confused....had the money been left by my "Grandmother" the watch would have been long gone.....but fortunately, it was my "Grandmaother" which we all know means I'll take it to my grave ....I need more coffee

thanks StephaneWell, I think not only Predfan is jalous. We all are for sure.A real gem that you put toghether, chapeau! CheersStephane
Thanks CY0811...just Thankswow....just wow -
Amazing work, as usual.
I love the decay on that old movement. Runs like a charm but looks its age.
Thanks Pug.....The best part of the movement is the 18000bph........talk about "getting the vintage beat right"
my watchmaker is getting new plates so that age look will be a thing of the past....:-(
-
Definitely a project to be proud of. Wear it well.
Thanks Kruzer00.....I am and I will
-
I really do......strange huh? I guess that the participation in building and shaping it makes it different. Like Predfan, I also owned a late 80's Gen 5513 with the gloss dial and it was just another watch. However, this one will never see a sales corner. It has a home right next to my vintage Longines that I bought with some money my grandmaother left us when she passed away.Just beautiful. I can honestly say if I had put that together I think I would prefer it to the gen. You must get a wonderful feeling every time you look at it. Marvellous work. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you very much....Don't know much about your "skill" assesment though....but thanks.Outstanding work! That's mighty good looking Submariner.I wish I had 1/10 of your skills.
Thanks....I look forward to your project.Sweet! I've got a sorta similar story coming up in about a week or so -
Im jelous too!!
Thats an amazing watch you have built!
Yo yo yo Thanks fo-shizzle L-dizzle....

Just got this back from watchbuff this morning, and he did a phenominal job! Much kudos to him, if anyone needs a frankenjust done, hes definitly the go-to guy. Stupid me got all excited when I was setting the time and date, I pulled it out to hack set and snapped the stem in half SO i figured i'd post some good quality pics before I send it back to watchbuff tommorow to replace the stem..
Everything on here is gen, except the bracelet which is an aftermarket jubilee..He swapped the clasp from my oyster band to this and it looks great!! Movement is a 2824-2 ..
What do you guys think?
Wow! Very clean........enjoy it........once it's fixed.
-
the gilt 5513 dial in the second photo looks amazing! is it a gen? i'll be interested if u're selling that.
It is and it's gone.....see this post:

c'mon man.....try to keep up

Boy, that brings back some memories. Your's looks just like the 80s vintage gen 5513 I had several years ago, except my pearl was missing (maybe that's why I take all of mine out??). As far as your statements about "Justasgood", I feel the same way. As I have said here before, I ended up smashing my gen 5513 against a concrete wall and boy was that costly. Had I known then what I know now, I could have fixed it myself. It wouldn't bother me near as much to damage a rep.
The good news for me is that I am finally confident enough with my watch skills that I am going to get a MBW next. I have disassembled and mod'ed to the point now that it is no big deal. The 5513 is my goal and though it may not be accurate, a MBW with a NDTRADING dial may be my only option (at least on my budget).
Great work and yes, I am very jealous!
I am glad you have a sense of humor and you are feeling more confident to go after an MBW. I have an NDTrading dial and matching hands on the way to me ans should get here by Saturday. Nothing like having options eh?
let me know if I can help you with your project or parts.....I would be glad to help.
Thanks for your opinion and understanding

my thoughts exactly.....perhaps a little cg work to thin 'em up abit and a little edge polishing to soften the case lines.
