  1. if its crap then its a waste of $108 which is no small change, ie could be a part payment of a more expensive watch.

is this build quality problem the same with all the cheap Explorer I from the various dealers?

Has anyone else ordered an Explorer I from Josh?

I have ordered one of the 108 Explorers and it has arrived already.

My opinion: keep your hands off!

My watch arrived with one of the markers floating around and the dial is scratched.

Joshua promised to send a new dial...hasnt arrived yet.

The most problem is: the hands don't clear the dial enought so the hour hand nearly scratches the dial and has to be mounted in an angle in order to clear the dial.

My watchsmith tried to install another movement but then the seconds hand doesnt fit because touching the dial.

Next problem: with my watch the glas isn't straight so the crown in the glas at 6 is way off center.

Conlcusion: I wasted 108 USD and will never ever order a watch there again!

  2. $700 -$1000 is SILLY money for a SIMPLE rep like a standard Chanel J12.

Considering the accuracy that we enjoy with more complicated watches, think Ebel 1911 Discovery Chrono and WM9 Submariner.

Its not to much ask the factories to print the Chanel in BOLD rather than charging buyers $$$ for a simple change, not like we asking for more accurate bezel or shaped collar guards which require LOTS more work than changing ONE FONT.

    Comments anyone?

You'll have to look at the more expensive 700 and 1k versions... and if you're doing that, and it's for your wife, ou may as well get the genuine.
  3. is 'striping' the thread something that is exclusive to reps or does it apply equally to gens?

I'll leave that answer to the experts. I read the knowledge base before I bought my first watch. I'm not very knowledgeable about the inner workings of the movements tough. :bangin: I do know that I adjust the time on mine about once each week and have no issues. I'm pretty careful though: no fast hard motions. I also push in the crown lightly and turn counter-clockwise just a bit and then clockwise slowly and carefully to make sure I don't strip anything. I plan to get my movements serviced within a year too, just to make sure. I'm sure one of the experts on this will pick up on this string soon and give some sage advice. They have always helped me.
  4. I have read the post and have another question: "overused" means how often?

I may need to adjust the time at least once a week, as some reps will be running +/- 20 seconds per day and the rep will be +/- 3 minutes a week.

'Cautions adjust the time on these models only if absolutely necessary. The cannon pinion (clutch between the motion works and the crown) is not very good and can and will slip if overused. Symptoms of a cannon pinion slippage is that the watch will apparently loose time when in fact the cannon pinion clutch is slipping, the movement runs on time, but the hands dont indicate the correct time.'

    Yes. Read this post:

Go to the knowledge base section. There is a lot of good info there by great people willing to share their experiences. Spend some time reading the posts.

    Good luck!

  5. Hi,

A question about the rep Ebel 1911 Discovery Chrono specifically and also other rep chronos that use the Asian 7750 movement:

This was taken from Trusty's website Q&A section:

"A11. To avoid damaging the delicate mechanisms of the Valjoux 7750b1 movement you need to follow the instructions listed below to take care of it:

If your Valjoux 7750b1 has DATE function, DO NOT ADJUST the date when your time is between 10pm to 3am.

It will damage the internal gears unknowingly if you do that.

The BEST WAY is to manually adjust the time to 6am and then adjust the DATE after that.

    IS THIS TRUE?

    Comments???

    Thanks for your views

  6. Hi,

To all the members who have bought from Eden Watches:

    1) What was your overall experience like?

    2) Is there shipping speedy and reliable [most reps are listed as free worldwide shipping]

    3) The prices are very reasonable but what is the quality of the reps like, do you really GET what you PAID for?

    Thanks for your view/opinions

  7. is there an update to this, I assume it related to the Ebel watch?

Unfortunately his quality control is still chinese and you all know what i mean. :(

He sourced me a beaautiful watch with a freaking wobbly crown and misaligned bezel and now i'm supposed to send it back and that sucks badly.

It seems he's well disposed to refund anything as he cannot source a correct watch (that's the part that sounds fishy to me).

    I'll keep you posted..

  8. Hi,

I am a Panerai noob and wanted to know if anyone bought the following PAM models[PAM111, PAM005] specifically from Trusty.

Are these PAMs supplied by Trusty accurate compared to the gen or are there significant flaws which require modding?

    http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...;products_id=94

    http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...;products_id=78

Which PAM model that comes with stainless steel bracelet, would be recommended for a Panerai noob?

    Thanks

  9. Hi,

I am slowly warming to the Panerai brand after visiting an AD over the weekend and was impressed particularly with PAM244 GMT and PAM241 and are there any reviews of these two rep models?

Both rep model come with either leather or rubber strap and I can't wear leather straps due to 'sweating' on wrists.

    My questions are:

    1) Are the rep rubber straps an accurate clone of the gen rubber strap, in terms of feel and durability? How much do the good rep rubber straps cost?

    2) Is the stainless bracelet available with some PAM models, an accurate clone of the gen stainless steel bracelet?

    3) Panerai watches seem 'simpler' when compared to other brands, particularly for dial and bezel, is there much difference between Panerai reps supplied by different rep dealers.

    Thanks for your opinions...

  10. will a crab claw open both Rolex and Omega case backs?

how much is the cheapest crab claw?

    thanks

    Guys,

All these friction tools, only work on casebacks that are pretty loose to start with.

If a caseback has been tightened with a proper tool, you will never undo it with any friction style tool.

I open maybe 10 - 15 screw backs each day, and don't even waste my time with the friction tools.

My first choice is a crab claw, and if it either doesn't fit, or won't open the back, then some serious gear needs to be used.

This friction tool thing, is almost a myth....go and talk to any serious watchsmith, and most won't even have heard of these things! I was talking to a master watchmaker a couple of days ago, and made reference to these, and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Seriously, these things are toys, when it comes to a "sealed" case back!

    My 0.02c FWIW.

    O/S

PS, And duct tape falls into the same category!

  11. roughly how much does a gen bracelet cost?

I have the previous generation Tag F1 Chrono. I don't know if it was from Trusty or elsewhere since I got it from the trade section.

Anyway, I put a gen bracelet on it and it looks great. I don't think anyone would like it was a rep. It isn't perfect but close enough for me.

  12. how much did you pay for it and where from?

i just got this `my first watchwinder and it really looks awesome

its actually silent but when i place 1 watch (hbb, dssd big watches) on one of the spinning wheel, its spins somewhat jerky and making noise every spin (not constant, only 1 knocking noise each spin), i think motor doesnt have enough power or the watch is too heavy placed off-center..when i place 2 watches there doesnt seem to be a problem..

is it normal? or it has crappy mechanics?

  13. Did the toolkit that you bought for $10 last and do you still have it?

Will the kit remove the case back on Rolex and Omega watches?

Can you post the website link where you can buy this toolkit?

    Thanks

I bought something similar to your first option, a kit with many useful tools, for about $10 including shipping from ebay from a Hong Kong company. Arrived about 2 weeks later, very useful if you know how to use the various tools, especially the spring bar tool, but really all of them, and for so little money. there are more expensive tools, eg Bergeron, but for a beginner, this does the trick. Even includes a case back remover tool and special pin pushers for the bracelet. Word of advice though on the PO links, can be tricky as they are pins that interlock. I took my PO to a watch repair guy who removed the links and sized it for $5 buck. However, I removed a second link myself with these tools.

    Good luck!

  14. Hi,

this question is being aimed at the Modders who build their own franken watches:

Seiko movements are very reliable, would it practical to use the Seiko diver watch movement and will it fit into a rep sub case?

If it does fit [with adjustment], then replacement hands, dial and bezel would be required to make a reliable rep sub, has anyone tried this?

    Thanks for your comments/opinions
