  1. Hi all. I've just purchased my first rep ever, after lots of research, and its arrived faulty. Of all the luck ... I wont mention the name of the dealer, just yet anyway. Its someone recommened and linked to by this forum. Its a Tag Heuer Carrera A-7750, the day/date wheel mechanism seems to be out of contact with the crown. When I turn the crown the day and date changes sometimes, sometimes it doesnt, sometimes it changes it once or twice then stops. Through the crown I can feel something going wrong, sometimes it catches and turns the mechanism and sometimes it just grids against it, sometimes it locks up completely. So, I have emailed the dealer. Before buying it I asked what the policy was on if it arrived dead or if it broke soon after arriving. He replied that if it died he would replace it, if it died after id worn it then he would repair it. The complication here is that I made sure the watch was running and everything was fine before taking all the plastic off, the date was fine for the 1 or 2 turns i gave it, but I didnt try and acutally set it. I took the plastic off and took it to a local Timpsons (a well knowns UK chain of watch repairers and key cutters) to have the braclet sized. After that I set the time and date and then noticed the problem. I emailed the dealer and he has said hes happy to repair it (not replace) if I send it to him (my expense). My attitude about this is this: I've purchased a product which has turned out to be faulty. I dont think its unreasonable for me to receive a replacement of the product without additional expense and that this product should be new, not a now second hand repaired product. I have not yet pushed this view with the dealer, because I wanted to ask what other people think and what are your experinces? Am I being unreasonable wanting a replacement, because I've taken the packaging off and had it sized, despite the fact I was shipped a faulty product? Or should I just accept this is a risk of this kind of purchase and except I have to pay extra to ship it back? Thanks for your help.
  2. Yeah I dont plan on buying one any time soon. Even if they are cheap, theyre not good enough for me to be happy wearing so any money spent would be a waste. Prices on 2nd hand ones on ebay have dropped from $2400 12 months ago to about $1800 now. So in the next year or so I might buy a used one, or wait for a decent rep.
  3. The best tip for using this forum is make sure you search the old threads thoroughly before asking questions. The vet members get really annoyed at newbies asking the same questions over and over. Im a newbie myself (I've only just ordered my 2nd watch ever), but one piece of advice that has served me well is not to impluse buy. Even if you think you've found the best version of the model your after, keep looking around and reading. If its popular then there will a few versions and the opinions of one or 2 members claiming something is the best is not always what you'll end up agreeing with.
  4. seeing as he posted those photos back in January its unlikely hes still looking for feedback in June ...
  5. Anyone got wrist pics they want to show off of their PVD Rolies? I'm hell keen to admire
  6. Okay cool, thanks for everyones help. I assumed it was new because i couldnt find anything on here about it and King has it listed as 'new'. highoeyazmuhudee, its a cheapie, King is selling this for $240. Dont know if this is Asian or ETA. I assume other dealers have this but havnt looked.
  7. Hi folks, Sorry if there is another way of describing this case, I've done some searching and nothing comes up on the forum for 'Taiwan Case'. Apparently its new. Comes in Asian and ETA 2836. What do people think? Looks pretty good to me but im a newbie, wondering what the pros think -mj
  8. I love it but im not an impartial commentator. I tend to love everything Monaco. If only there was a good rep i could love -mj
  9. I dont know about that specific strap, but on ebay a seller called tango252 sells straps that fits a carrera. There is a black leather sporting one with red stiching. If you find one let us know what its like.
  10. This is WM9's site: http://www.watchmaker9.tv
  11. Im only new here but I sometimes cant beleive how quickly people here are to take offence. Its the only negative thing about this forum. The only other forums ive ever used was back when i was a teenager and they were for online gaming. All anyone did there was give cr@p to each other constantly and no one cared. Just a little bit different to here Alex, WM9 is a manifacturer who sells through his site and through dealers. BK is his official 'forum' dealer, who is also a modder. BKs username is bklm1234. His forum is here: http://www.rwg.cc/members/BK-s-Watch-Garage-f196.html As far as i can tell through some pretty damn intense reading of this forum, WM9s rolex reps, once gone through BK's QC and mods, are the best avaliable. They are in such demand you normally need to wait on a list or pre-order. I cant wait for some new Subs to come out -mj
  12. Again with the good advice Toad. I'll hold off for 9 months. Yeah I have looked into all the options with Subs. For atleast 6 months I've been strongly contemplating a gen one, as I have with a Monaco. I've now decided to blow the money on a kick ass holiday and buy a few reps instead. After 6 months of closely watching (no pun) 2nd hand prices, ebay, and trying on a few in retailers, I've a pretty good eye for the details of a gen compared to some of the reps. Little things like an oversized crown or no lume on the hands would irritate me every time i looked at it or i was in a dim room. Dropping $500 on the best Rolex modded rep available isnt really a huge deal for me, makes more sence to me than spending $240 on one I'll not be totally happy with. Besides, im looking forward to seeing if I can pass mine off amongst my mates with gens In my work i come across a few gen subs on wrists too. The plan is: The Sub (in black with SS bracelet) will be my pride and joy and get the most use, the Carrera (in black with black leather band) and a Bently 6.75 (in white with brown band) will round out things. At least thats the plan right now. I imagine it might be hard to stop once i start ... -mj
  13. Thanks for the advice everyone. Okay so I definitely heading down the wrong road by thinking a dealer might be a service option. What gave me the idea initially was reading about the modding services available from dealers like BK. Im really hoping to get a Sub from him when theyre available again, with his crown mod and magnify fix. I think roger and toad's advice about waiting a couple of months before the service is a good idea. I had thought, from reading past posts, that the movement was pretty damn unreliable until it had been serviced. But if the general opinion is that its okay out of the box in the short term, well then ill put it on my wrist for 3 months and see how i feel about it after that. Anyone else have an opinion on this? Ill do some more searching for posts on the movement. Besides, I do have another 3 watches on my list to buy in the next couple of months. Perhaps I'll like one of those more. Thanks guys. -mj
  14. That a great tip, thanks Soonerwatch! Their new site is www.ebuy4cheaps.com. Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Its such a pity that there so many ridiculous looking Monacos. What is it with white dials on black faces. The casings for about 50% just look silly. There are a couple of passable ones though with more less accurate visuals. I really thought these would have been popular enough to mean decent fakes. -mj
  15. Look, I could get really defensive here but I don't want to turn this thread negative (so I'm just going to get a little defensive). When I said that I would trust a dealer recommended by this forum to service a watch, I wasn't ignoring Zigmeisters advice, I was taking it on board but also hoping that someone may have had a positive experience having a new watch serviced by a dealer. An exception to the rule if you like. Obviously I didn't word my post very well. Docblackroc, where are you getting this? I've already had a PM conversation with Bricciola, the German watchmaker, about sending him my watch. I never said I wouldn't send my watch off, just that I'm eager to wear the thing. So please don't attack my character based on me looking for the most convenient solution to a problem. I'm on here to learn and that's why I'm asking questions. I apologize if I appear to be ignoring the advice that I'm requesting. That's the opposite of my intent.
  16. Zigmeister I don't mean to discount your advice, I was just trying to say that I was looking for opinions and recommendations and this forum seems like a pretty trustworthy way of establishing who to deal with. I've just done some searching and this appears to be the German watchmaker: http://www.rwg.cc/members/perfect-Watchmaker-EU-t94025.html Some pretty glowing recommendations on there. Zig, would you be willing to do the service and lume? What kind of cost would I be looking at? Cheers, -mj
  17. Wow fast response. Can I just take this into my local jewellers and have it serviced? Or does it need to be someone who specifically services A7750s? If there was a dealer on here that everyone had a high opinion of that did the servicing and adding lume, I wouldnt see any reason not to trust them. I hardly want to be posting my new watch off after receiving it, I want to wear the damn thing -mj
  18. Hey all. I've only been a member of this forum 4 days or so and only have 3 posts, but for those 4 days ive been reading pretty much non-stop I can see this getting extremely addictive ... Anyhoo, im about to order a 43mm Carrera Day-Date (while I wait for more BK WM9 v2 Rolex Subs to come out) I've noticed that a lot of people recommend getting the A7750 serviced before use. So I'd like to that. Pretty much every dealer has this watch and for the same price, so Im wondering if there are any dealers that are able to service the movement before selling it to me? Does anyone have any recommendations as to who to buy this from? As I've no experience all the dealers look the same to me There doesn't seem to be any mods needed for this model, except for maybe applying a better lume to the dials? Is this possible? Also, are there any EU (or better yet for me, UK) dispatched dealers? Questions galore. Thanks in advance. -mj
  19. Ahhh okay. Well thanks for the feedback everyone. I might just go for a super rep Carrera Day-Date and see if I come across any more inspiring Monacos in the next few months.
  20. Okay okay before everyone flames me, I know that there are no proper reps of the Monaco out there. Aparently having the seconds at 3 is too hard to copy. I've just spent a couple of hours reading everything on this forum with turns up in search results for 'Monaco' and Im still left with one question: What is the best Monaco rep out there, and where do I get it? I've looked at every dealer linked from this site and while theres alot of stupidly bad looking monacos avaliable, this one on kingwatches.net seems to be the only option that is visually correct dials: For some reason it comes with a band with Monza markings though: But I guess that isnt a big deal. I'd really preffer the steel braclet anyway so will probably try and find one that is similar to the real thing. Anyone out there got any link or recommendations for the blue faced model? Yes I know it wont be perfect, but that might be okay. Thanks for your help.
