  1. I felt guilty so I have just upgraded to a 6 month membership. Why have I waited? Because of aperthy, I needed prompting, this sort of thing needs to be in your face all the time to get a better uptake IMHO. It is just to easy to sit back and take without giving.

I would (and now have!) pay to access restricted areas. My slight concern is this: I do so now because I know the information contained on this board (technical and dealer related) is first rate, it has enabled me to purchase two first class reps from the dealers here with security where as I could quite easily have been scammed somewhere else.

However, If this information where not accessible to me IE I'm a new member and I have restricted access, I doubt that I would stump up the cash to find out if the info is good or not.

Although having said that, a temporary 1 month membership giving enough access to the important bits so as the new member can decide if full membership is worth it would address that concern.

  2. Oiling a watch is a huge topic on it's own...too tedious to try and cover in a post...

The barrel sides are coated with a special grease, the mainspring in installed, then oil is applied to the spring coils, and once the cover is installed, a different oil is applied to the arbour pivots...3 types on this one part alone, in varying quantities...

Best to get some oiling charts from ETA.www.eta.ch, and have a look. It's more than I am willing or able to explain, sorry. There is probably information on Time Zone on oiling a watch...

    Hi The Zigmeister,

I've done the timezone courses and have rebuilt a number ETA movements, experience and confidence is building...slowly! I've stuck to the methods laid out in the training material and oiling is indeed an art in its self!

I thought as you have repaired/serviced more movements than I've had hot dinners you might have had a better or improved method of oiling the barrel, however, reading between the lines it seems you use well established methods. Thanks anyway.

    Regards

  3. Saturday as in yesterday!

Shipping notification in terms of tracking numbers or an email that it has been sent?

Email with scanned shipping docs and tracking number. Tracking shows item shipped.

    Top class!

  4. but there must be higher qc on them

I would love to believe that but I'm not convinced the ETA's we see in some watches have been through any QC since assembly...

OTOH at least the world and his dog should be able to find spares and repair them...

  5. That's why I trusted it...... seems way to labor intensive to fake all of these member posts. I am thrilled!!!! Another cool hobby.

No, another very expensive cool hobby1 :Jumpy:

I'm new too, take the advise of the long termers here they know their onions..... Oh, if there's a problem, don't screw the dealer up with a pp claim email instead...

  6. Thanks for the warm welcome Guys,

My PP 5053 turned up last week courtesy of Josh (Pics to follow). I must say it’s a fine watch even if it is not the most accurate rep in the world! I had excellent communication from Josh and very prompt delivery so a big thumbs up from me. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

This is my first rep so I was not sure what to expect, it came without a box but I assume that is the way….. It feels nice and weighty and well put together plus it seems to run accurately. The finish is good with no obvious flaws. Compared to the original, not that I own one you understand  , I can see the date is in the wrong position and the flip case back hinge is at 9 O’clock instead of 10 O’clock and the face is white instead of cream with an eggshell surface finish. The crown is too small as well and actually makes adjustment a bit tricky for my fat fingers but I’m not too concerned!

It’s also the first watch I have with an ETA2824-2 movement and comparison to the Russian Vostok 2426 movement is interesting. I don’t know much about these things but the Russian movement feels smoother and more precise and looks better made to my very untrained eye. A great watch though and I’m now hooked and on the lookout for my next rep!
