  1. I had a beer cup and glued a ceramic handle onto it. I call it my franken stein. Sorry, I should be punn-ished
  2. So what is the cause of the skip? Seems like it is slipping a gear but yet the time keeping is spot on. I lost, maybe, a minute this past week. But the skipping is undeniable. What's happening under the hood that allows for the skipping but still keeps pretty good time?
  3. gtank, yep that is ***EXACTLY*** what happens. Anyone know which movements can be swapped for this asian 2813? Clearly she needs new muscle under the hood.
  4. Case, dial, lume, and the aesthetic aspects are excellent. The movement is a wait and see. It likely will need a new movement soonere than later. My advice on this modle, it is a Buy but only with the 28,800 ETA engine.
  5. I just picked up a Sinn U1 with the asian 2813. It keeps good time, but the second hand kinda skips. It'll stall on a second marker for 2 seconds or 6 beats then jump 2 or 3 seconds in one step. Reminds me of the clocks in my old highschool. Otherwise it is a very beautiful watch.
  6. Fashion comes in and out of style. But style is always in fashion. But the square on casual wear? Lets leave that and go to some better augments like a hat or an ascot.
  7. Anyone here have the Bode Millar big bang rep? If so can you post pics and tell me what you think of it.
  8. I would venture this will be repped soon. The design elements are not far off the current reps. They won't have to retool much to produce this watch. Why are HBB's so quickly repped? Because most of the design elements are the same. Changing the strap or adding some printing and adding colour to the dial does not mean changing the way the watch is constructed etc. So we have here a bit of a change in size and some colouring. If I were a rep maker I would think, "Hmm. I cam do this for $x pretty easy. But building a brand new Breitling Unobtanium will take a lot of $X and I won't get it right the first time" Run a supply demand curve after that and baby, I will punch out yellow, green, and purple till tje Teletubbies come knocking.
  9. Water under pressure is nothing to laugh at. Rep, Gen, it is a risk every time you go under. I have a solidly built dive computer by Suunto and it mandates a service every 2 years (minimum). I have a Gen Luminox and it requires regular service and testing yearly. And every aspect of my dive kit gets a wash in fresh water after each dive and gets a regular once-over. Think about it outside the rep-gen land. Gear intended to get wet and go deep needs a full once-over and exam before going under. Pre-dive checks are a ritual that should never be broken Dive watches have a thickness of fine print in the manual about intended uses and service limits.. follow them. ISO has very severe standards on what can be called a dive watch. The standards for dive computers are even thicker. Bottom line? Can your rep be made water-tight? Yep, and I've enjoyed playing in the oceans with them. Can they fail? Yep, and they have. Can gens fail? Yep and they do. Would I rely on a rep under the water? NO!!!!! It is a fun thing to take with you but it is just for fun. Would I rely on a gen under the water? NO!!!! It is a back up to other systems. Summary, your rep can go down to the deep and not get fogged up and crap out rust out or otherwise ruin your night-club watch. Thus you can certainly make them pool-worthy. Generally if you're getting wet with your watch you want a basic model. Screw-down crown, screw in case-back. Check seals, use grease, and don't cry if they do fail.. The light bending of water on the watch at depth makes for a pretty watch though: Rehaut is due to the optics of water, check the depth gauge though: And yes, you've seen these before on my old nick.
  10. Well, you don't know what you get until you -Read the articles here -Learn how to disassemble and reassemble a watch -have the tools at hand -and are willing to go mess up a few times, get some watches wet, and do some deep dives. Have fun (but take a dive computer).
  11. I worry about the same. I also worry about the movement becoming intoxicating and the rest of my collection becoming trivial to me. :/
  12. Intervention time folks. I need all the reasons to not buy this watch: http://www.1-pc8838.com/gl01010-alfred-helwig-tourbillon-black-real-flying-tourbill-p-4024.html 1) Okay, wonky Asian tourby... It'll break 2) Can't pull off wearing a watch that cost. 3) I'd be better with an unbranded tourby because it would just be a conversation peice. If 1-3 were helping me resist, I wouldn't be here for support. I need hard words and a talking to. Help!
  13. The Navitimer is gen or one good franken. Date wheel is not sunk even though it is the tricompac, so 7753 movement. Markers line up nicely (though they're off set). Difficult to tell about the AR or the pie-plate chronos. Date font looks good.
  14. I have a nice representation of watches with black, white, and blue dials. Flipping through the latest GQ and I note that some of the more outside-the-norm colours are being worn. Orange being one of them. Do any of you have any non-standard-colour-dial-reps? Orange, red, green? If so can you tell me what you think of them and perhaps post some pics? Cheers mates!
  15. I have had the rep noobmariner the SSD a SFSO and a Br SOH. The noobmariner and SFSO took on water after an mere 40 foot dive. The SSD and SOH (after applying silicon grease to all the seals) have each sustained multiple dives to depths of up to 120 feet. The key seems to be greasing the seals and tightening the caseback and crown solidly.
  16. I like boobs. Now, if I meet a hot chick with big boobs and she says that they're fake boobs, I will still sleep with her. But if I am paying big bucks for a ferrari of a trophy wife and she claims her [censored] are real when they're actually implants..That is a #fail Watches are like [censored], rep of gen they're pretty awesome. But don't go entering a "Ms Nude All Natural" pagent with fake [censored]. It doesn't impress the people who bought tickets to the show, it doesn't make you look good, and it diminishes the appreciation of [censored] of all types. My point is, don't be a boob! Keep reps to reps to rep sites and gens to gen sites!
  17. A good clothier should have the abillity to order custom shirts for you. I reccomend this. I had a Lipson tuxedo shirt made, wing tip collar, very tapered, modern stripe style with a short tail. Given that my tuxedo pants are flat front, the short tail stays put. But the short tail also alows me to funk up the casual and wear it untucked over a black t-shirt and a pair of Horst jeans. Good club wear. Yeah yeah. I dress metro, but I rock the metro look.
  18. Pocket squares should never ever be used in a dressed down look! Ever. Burn the thought of doing so out of your head, shoot it, and flush down toilet! Level 1) Sports coat and jeans fine.. Coat should not have pocket flaps Level 2) Sports coat and dress pants. Fine, colour combos shouldn't clash. Open collar is okay. Level 3) Sports coat and dress pants with tie. You can add a lapel pin at this point. Level 4) Suit and tie, coat pockets should be flapped. At this point and only at this point should one entertain a pocket square. Level 5) Tuxedo. Pocket square is important here. White square if black dinner jacket. You could do a boutineer as well, but lose the square if you do so. When dressing, always ask yourself, "would James Bond do this"? Bond wouldn't. So don't!
  19. Well, I have been around this community for years and have ordered 12 times from Josh. The perfect2clones.com site was such an exact mirror of Josh's site (watermarks, and even the order process) that it fooled me! There is some profound irony in buying a replica watch off of a replica of a replica-watch-dealer's site. The good news is that this is the only time I have found myself a victim when it comes to this hobby. Still, I hope that the guy pretending to be one of our dealers gets laid next week by someone pretending to be a woman!
  20. Yeah I know. I usually deal with Josh... Because his site migrates on occasion, I thought that perfect2clones.com was his. It is an *exact* copy of his site. So foolishly I proceeded. Interestingly enough, whomever copied Josh's site did indeed send me *something*. I will be curious what it is. I am kind of hoping for a watch but would be happy with Olympic memorabilia or a fun toy lol.
  21. I got taken in by perfect2clones.com which is NOT Josh's site! Looks like Josh's but the WU details and contact info is NOT Josh's. Sadly I lost $150 on a WU transfer. GLAD I didn't pay by credit card. Yikes, I'm a long time member of this site (posting on a new nick) and I got taken! Who would have guessed. I really should have spent more time on this forum in the last 6 months. Probably could have saved the $150. Ah well. It amounts to an average dinner with an average woman and an average wine. But man... I'm [censored] off at being suckered!
  22. Forgive Canada for their uncharacteristic display of national pride. Forgive them for showing amazing grace in this win. Forgive them for displaying what should be the Olympic Spirit where the athletes shine brighter than any flag or anthem. May all nations host with such spirit of sport.
  23. Big flaw? The hands being black on the gen and brassy on the rep. Very easy face forward tell.
