  1. Thanks Ken, I'll still lurk... I may get back into the hobby.. It happens often enough In the mean time, cheers!
  2. Update; Tag and Hublot on hold pending donations to the board (not me).
  3. Hi Ronnin, Per COD... I don't want to have to pay to get rid of the items. So buyer can pay for the shipping, that's what COD is up here.. Per why I don't want to become a VIP member.. I just don't participate in the hobby anymore. Nothing against the board or the owners, it is still a great place. I don't subscribe to some of the hobby magazines I used to enjoy, not because of the magazine, but I just don't engage in the hobby. Why are there no prices/values listed? Well, because I'm not selling the watches. I'm giving them away and hoping that the people who want them will do something nice for the board in return. Ronnin: Respectfully, the alternative here is I just throw them into the trash and they go to the landfill. No cost to me. No headaches, no need to justifiy what I'm doing. No need for members to make a donation to the board. No requests for pictures. No hassell. As for "legitimately selling my wares" in the VIP section.. I'm not selling anything here. I think you're stuck on the COD bit. Put simply, I'm not going to pay postage to give something away.
  4. I know this isn't the right place for this, bear with me. I am not a premium member right now.. I have some parts I want to give to a good home. I'll ship COD all I ask is that if you want them, you make donation to RWG. They'll be shipped from North America. So here you go: Noobmariner case, crown, and bezel: V1 HBB This is the fantasy model with the rose-gold bezel. Some screws have been cannibalized but inside is a A7750 movement in full working order serviced about 3 years ago. Finally, a blue-dial TAG Carrera with working A7750. The movement in this guy was from a very go day in the factory and they chrono resets like a champ, everything feels tight. This guy is missing the bezel. It wasn't a good day at the factory for bezel glue: So there you have it. You help me clean up my parts box, you make a donation to RWG, you feel great about yourself and Bob's your uncle, you get stuff. I guess my only other request is that you do something cool with the parts and share the results
  5. Until you realize that she's guzzeling the pitcher because she want's to keep it down being ever scared to death you'll find out that she's still pre-op. Never hook up in a dive bar. There's a reason you're there, there's a reason you're there, and penecillin only goes so far.
  6. What`s the difference between a character actor in a stratford play and Tom Hanks. Both, after all, are likely reasonably attractive, fine actors, decent people, and dedicated to their craft? Why does Tom Hanks command such a high price? Well, putting Tom Hanks on a marquis brings in more revenue. It took a lot of time and money and effort to get Tom Hanks to the point where people feel comfortable with him, they know he'll perform, and they'll shell out money to see him...
  7. I don't always compliment watches, but when I do, I prefer Breitling.
  8. I had an idea... stay tuned..
  9. I too remember the "olden days". And I agree things are different now. The watches I own are all running great and keeping accurate time. But I have to be honest too... I don't really want any other watches. The allure has worn off, rep or gen. Don't get me wrong, I still really dig watches... But I like the one's I have.. Maybe price-point is a factor. Forking out $500 for a rep is steep and requires careful consideration. And with the high price-point the flaws become a bigger factor. At $500 the lume-dots ought to be put on by someone with less shaky hands. Maybe it is just the lack of innovation in watches in general. The gen makers have done all sorts of things with the uber-pricey watches. $100,000 K gets you a movement that can do some very funky things, belt-driven "digital" watches with analog movements. But they're Fugly as can be. Out of Basel world I honestly can't see anything new that holds much appeal. Maybe it is that my interest has turned to vintage pieces? Well, sort-of.. I like researching them and I may on day buy a German WWII Kriegsmarine watch... But I'd never wear one. The wee little dials just don't work for me. As for the forum... I still enjoy reading here.. But I miss the way the posts used to be. Guys actually going diving with a diving watch rep... Guys blogging their trip to Guangdong. The posts were more like magazine articles than forum posts. I'm also fatigued by the "wrist checks". "Friday 2:05 wrist check". "Friday 2:10 wrist check". "What is on your wrist this exact picosecond". Meh now I am just rambling and feeling nostalgic!
  10. My quick nickle: To service or not is a personal choice and there is no right or wrong. If you spend some serious money on a rep, you probably did a lot or research. The aesthetics match what you want, it passes the sniff test for you. You're going to wear it a lot. In that case it is probably worth servicing and treating well. If you buy a throw away rep, say a noobmariner and you want a year or two out of it, you're probably better just using it for parts when it dies. Buy a new one There is a third consideration though. Our reps have been getting better over the past years. A lot better. Just looking at the throughput of discussions on a new release going to V2, V3, VX and you can be certain that things move fast in the rep world. For those looking for aesthetic accuracy, then movement accuracy isn't as big a deal. Some sell their old rep for a new and improved rep that has a more accurate scramson etching or bonaculature incised monocle. And I think this is why we see rapid improvement in the aesthetics of a rep but suffer deeply when it comes to improvements in movement. Has there been a big shift since the 16,600 A7750 was replaced by the 28,8? And other than the realization that the ETA 28X movement was, itself, being repped has there been a dialog on the gutz of the beasts? Business (whether white market, grey market, or black market) are dictated buy supply and demand economics. The consumers are the ultimate dictators of business behavior.
  11. But lets be clear. None of us want tries to pass off our Rep as a Gen right? That would be insincere (sarcasm). Notwithstanding the pictures where the watch itself doesn't function (33+ days in a month) how can one say these are bad? If we keep with the general premise here (and the most common way to pretend that buying a rep isn't really a bad thing)... Our mantra "One Never Ever Ever Tried To Pass Off Their Rep As A Gen", then the watches pictured above that do not actually not function but simply stray VERY FAR from the what the Gen looks like are not actually horrible are they? Some have some really nice aesthetic qualities: One day we will all come to terms with the fact that we buy reps because we want to have people think we own the gen but are too cheap to pay for it. If you're laughing at the watches in this thread because they're off, or if you're secretly nodding with Corgi because you don't want *expensive reps*, then you're one step closer to admitting the truth. We want strangers to think we own a Rolex. And we laugh at these pictures because our inside voice says, "Man, nobody would believe that's a REAL Rolex". (you can substitute Rolex for your brand of desire). Stay honest my friends. And we ALL buy Playboy for the articles
  12. I have won trophies for my game face alone Both sides of my pillow are cold When I go to Rome, they do as I do. And when I wear a rep, the gens try to copy it. Stay thirsty my friends.
  13. If something sounds too good to be true, it often is: OJ Simpson Murder Confession False says Oprah reps. http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/06/23/oj-simpson-murder-confession-false-oprahs-reps-say/
  14. I heard that he planted the idea of Inception into Christopher Nolan's head while he was sleeping.
  15. I had never been a rolex fan until I encountered the sea dweller. I respect the watch for its remarkable engineering and abuse-taking powers. It is also generally not guilty of the sins of the submariner which stays on yuppie wrists and never goes into the briney deep.
  16. You know how some stores have those boxes that contain a dress shirt (usually colored) and a matching tie and pocket square? The manufacturers and stores that carry them should be charged with crimes against humanity!!! Nothing screams "rural hick trying to look wallstreet" like the folks who sport that unholy trifecta of style crime!
  17. I have a dumb questions about lugs. But does the old gen Seadweller upon which the "super sea dweller" of a few years back... does it have lug holes? For that matter.... Which Rolex seadwellers do and don't have lug holes? And while we're doing dumb questions... If male sheeps are called rams, and a donkey is an ass, why is a ram in the ass called a goose?
  18. Just to go off topic... The comment "on thin ice" juxtaposed with Nanuq's avatar of a polar bear make me have a giggle. I know it wasn't intentional but the inadvertent pun of sorts was a lot of fun. Nanuq knows ice like nobody else here ::Cheers::
  19. Does this board have a policy on this sort of thing? Is price fixing equivalent to anti-competitive behavior such as hacking? And has the allegation of hacking been proven? These are key questions. That said, from my own personal view, I think hacking a site is a more malicious action than price fixing or pressuring other dealers. It certainly cost Josh money. I was going to pull the trigger on the DSSD and another watch. The hack hit and I couldn't. Now I'm stuck in postal strike land and the watches have turned into a vacation at my wife's request. Price fixing may impact my decision to buy or not buy. A hack impacts my ABILITY to buy. The former is my choice and my consent. The latter is someone else making a choice against my consent.
  20. I purchased a used rep ssd a few years back and it has been amazing. I have taken it diving numerous times including 2 dives to 140 feet. I think I've probably logged about 50 dives. Generally before a dive trip I remove the case back and apply silicone grease to the back seal and the crown seal. She's even survived some pretty good knocks while entering a boat in hard surf. Now with that said, I will of course point out that I ALWAYS have a dive computer on my wrist and a back up in my BCD. I'm a firm believer in redundancy. I've gone down with a rep super-ocean heritage (non chrono). It has joined me on about 15 dives around the 60 foot mark and has not failed me. I won't go deeper with it because the treads on the crown and the case back are not as fine as the SSD. Now for gen dive watches.. Luminox makes a bunch, they're pretty robust. Seems every PADI instructor on the planet has one. I've started into technical diving and there seems to be a lot of invicta's being sported in that world. Although my friend who does a lot of deep tech dives now has 2 rolex subs and a bag of luminox's. All found. So my other piece of advice is to get yourself a G10 strap for your dive watch(es). There is a reason that the military uses them.
  21. And the game is afoot. Lock-out rather than strike: http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110614/postal-strike-110614/20110614/?hub=BritishColumbiaHome
  22. Just a vent.... I'm so close to pulling the trigger on a new watch but the darn Canada Post rolling strike has me hesitant.. Grr.. This is worse than the lunar new year.
