I'm out of the loop on these but assuming you're using an ETA movement then Tudor is the top choice I believe. Back then, when I was building a 1665 and not using Tudor I opted for the set sold by Clarks as did Freddy333. This was years ago I must admit.

I have got an ETA 2451 movement which beats at 18k and I was hoping that it would be possible to fit this into the case (probably silix). If you have the knowledge on these things do you know if this is possible or does the case need 'adapting' to accept a 2451 movement. Also does the same apply to the Feslea movements you suggest?

Greetings all. I am in the throes of gathering parts for a 6538 build and have started with a Helenarou 2 line gilt dial re-lumed by Big Dazza. As the dial is Helenarou I presumed I would be using a Helenarou case but I have heard good things about the Silix offering. A red triangle bezel is my preference so come on experts, argue it out which is best? Cheers.

Yes, I see what you mean. Maybe that is the problem with the Ubi overlay as well. Still, it brings us back to the same situation. Can we produce a white overlay without this error?

For your sake I hope silver is correct because I don't know of anybody who produces a good white open 6&9 flat top 3 dwo. The silver one sold by polexpete is by all accounts very good.

I'm planning a 6538 big crown build and during my research I've read that an eta 2472 makes a good donor movement because of its vintage feel (thanks automatico!). Do any of you experts have an opinion and most particularly does the 2472 fit nicely in a Helenarou case? Any input and suggestions for hands etc would be much appreciated. I've got a Big Dazza dial and an Athaya crown so far. Thanks chaps.

It may be that I am wrong but it is my understanding that the rep dials have a date window that is slightly to the right of the position of the window on a gen dial. I believe this is to line up correctly with the datewheel on an ETA 2836 movement which is in its own turn positioned slightly to the right when compared to the gen movement (I'm only talking about vintage sports models here as that's what I know about). When a watch that has a rep dial and a gen spec crystal with a date mag and an ETA movement then there is indeed an alignment issue. Basically the date mag does not sit directly over the window aperture. This is a separate problem to the datewheel/window issue on rep dials/ETA movements.
It is very interesting however, what you say about skewed printing. Can anybody confirm or otherwise this theory?
Come on chaps, lets get to the bottom of it once and for all.

Hope the new format is simple and clear. Call me a fuddy duddy but I can't stand things that are complicated just for complications sake. Probably why I like vintage Rolex sports models actually. Well done and all that jazz - here's to another 9 years

As we're having a nostalgic moment, one of my old favourites was Pugwash. I know he rubbed some people up the wrong way sometimes but on the whole I found his attitude refreshing and very funny. Also his photos were second to none. Wonder where he is now?
