  1. Not rep, but ETA. I would say ETA is pretty much the same except for small little ticks on the 7's, colour-wise differences seem to be small. @Chief lol, i guess you have found something else for The Zigmeister to do
  2. So i promissed to post some pictures about the differences between Gen, ETA and Rep datewheels So here it goes... Gen datewheels look like this (only the black one, white one is ETA) ETA Rep looks like this Gen vs ETA vs The difference between the rep and Eta quality is huge, while between the ETA and Gen seems to be only the font that differs. You can see a difference for example in the number 7. I was also been told that IWC doesnt make gen daywheel other than in English language for the 3717 at least (can't verify that however) but maybe thats why some members report colour differences between for example italian/german daywheels and gen datewheels. Somehow gen seems to be more black than ETA. All photographic credits go to: Pugwash and domi
  3. Hi Tom You might want to contact the dealer who sold you the watch, they often can provide you some spare parts like these. About the crown, you probably can get one easily from them, but best would be if you get a genuine crown and tube, then you wont have this problem anymore. Concepta or Domi, might help you out on that.
  4. I must be honest here, i think its a great project and a nice value for the rarity but don't like the yellowish/vintage look of the subdials... I find the combination strange, maybe with a yellowish/vintaged bezel i would like it more... still i find the different colours too contrasting, but maybe that's what many people will like.. Its good that we don't have all the same taste And its nice to see a different 3714 for a change. Keep up the good work and for the future owner... wear it well.
  5. Hi F. Since the rep dial and the gen are the same size, it is possible that the datewheels are as well. It won't be easy to get one but ask concepta he might help you out on that.
  6. you would be amazed to see how similar, yet so different they actually are... and to transcribe your signature "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing."
  7. check this thread out if you havent done so.. My link many answers will be there... and if they are not, dont be afraid to ask, we all once were a total noob as well... but most importantly enjoy your new watch.
  8. Some would call it luck, others would call it connections... The difference is actually pretty big compared to the rep., as soon as you hold it, you can fell the quality difference. Miss it already. Enjoy!! And looking forward for the pictures of the full assembled watched.
  9. It does differ .... specially at numerals 1 and 7. will post comparative pictures soon.
  10. Everything is true, but this is the watch he is refering to. Unfortunatly, dont think concepta can source a movement for these and the gen dial won't fit if i am not mistaken...
  11. any dealer will sell you one and often you can find them for sale over the fora...
  12. then check it better, bezel seems mis-alligned... if it is, then you should have it exchanged...
  13. +1 but are you sure you want to change some gen hands to fit a rep movement? or is it for your DLC coated mechanism?
  14. I would say gen dial and hands, but bezel looks strange in the markers 45, 50 and 60 (which could be from the picture) and its a bit off centered with the dial, doesn't line up properly, although only slightly deviated.... pretty close to gen i would say.. you have to see that there are at least 2 versions of gen dials for this model one pre 2006 or 2004 and one after (i am not sure anymore, but i think is due to the way number are embossed into the dial?? and i saw some watches have rose gold hands and some normal gold, not sure this is specific for a particular model like the gold version or if after a certain date all the watches started to be produced like this...) after 2006 they come with AR and probus scafusia crown and before they dont have AR and have the fish crown, so is something you should consider as well. Anyway looking pretty good.
  15. Here you are... some pics of the rep bracelet. Hope it helps you identify whether you got a gen or not. ________________________________________________________________________________ H.
  16. the easiest tell is that the rep has a hole in each side of the clasp. Quality wise there should also be a big difference in the general feel of the steel. Heard somewhere that he lug-end connectors should be different as well.
  17. Thats the problem with rep... there is always something we can improve...
  18. had the oportunity to measure both. Dont have a digital caliper, so using a normal one i would say gen is about 5.9 - 6 mm and rep slightly smaller maybe around 5.8 - 5.9 mm There is a quality difference between both and since the groves on the gen are more pronunced, it fells a bit bigger than the rep. sorry for the bad quility pics
  19. dont think is bad luck, the rep crowns cannot be compared to the gen in terms of detail.
  20. about the date wheel i think it is normal, but you have to look very closely to notice that. About the spot just check whether is a particle of dust or some misprinting. If it is dust its easily removed with a blower, from the picture i cant see it to comment on that. @awesome these watches are pretty much coming from the same factory so there is no real difference between the dealers, just make sure then will do some QC before they ship so that you wont have problem like brockelhorst is having. You can ask for picture before they ship the watch for you. In my opinion the faux power reserve is more accurate to gen than the working version.
  21. Thats a nice collection you got there. wear them well . 10 modded IWC's? and i thought i was the IWC fanatic one.. When are the 3717 and the 5004 arriving?
  22. swap its pretty easy but like it was said you will need some tools or get someone to do it for you. I would get the case-set as well, that will avoid you the pain of sending it back, waiting for it to arrive there, plus waiting for new watch to come back... If you cant find one in Paris, for sure Francisco and others in EU will be willing to do it for you.
  23. Both the minute hand and the chrono hand are tipped down on the edge, this is supposed to give increase accuracy while reading it. The tips of the hands bent slightly downward are supposed to minimize distortion from the edge of the crystal as well.
