  1. Way cool quartz.....It has really grown on me. Probably in the black face, but this is on my short list for sure.
  2. So true, Maxman....I loved your story about the wedding....That was a big fear of mine too initially and kinda what lead me to these forums (to find the answer to the obligatory "Who has the best sub" question) and also what has lead to, and is turning into a ridiculous out-of-control buying frenzy.... I love this whole rep scene and never realized that this existed. I guess my only intent for starting this thread was that a person may have different watches for different purposes and/or occasions. While I would never wear a quartz Rolex...period..... much less to a wedding or other formal event, I would wear a quartz watch to work out or some other sporting activity. I would also purchase one as a starter or a "trial" version of a watch I wanted to see how it looks/feels before plunking down more $$$ on the auto version. As my collection grows, its also nice to have a couple quartz to make sure you always have the correct time to be able to set your hand-wind or autos that you dont wear daily. Thanks for sharing your story and your viewpoint. I hope I didnt seem like I was knocking on you, just trying to present a differing viewpoint. Great to see another North Carolinian on the forums....I spent 5 years and Charlotte and loved it there. Now in the Triad area but never miss a Panther game in the fall and am at Lake Norman a lot in the summer, which has lead to my other obsession on these boards, how to "waterproof" your watches to be able to casually swim in them.... -Murph' Wow! Consider that done....Where?
  3. Of course, the Chopard racing series, I'm partial to the GTXL, complete with tire track strap and fuel gauge power reserve.
  4. How 'bout the VC 1921 for a little retro look? You'd never have to take your hand off the wheel... Interesting article on forbes.com link to forbes article The rep version
  5. +1 on the Breitling....I've never been a fan of their aviators. I know they are great quality watches but the numerals on most of the dials dont appeal to me much. This is the best looking Breitling I have seen. I'd love to have a Breit to see what all the fuss is about and this, if coming out soon, may be the one to test. It's very sharp indeed.....
  6. +1
  7. Welcome to RWG....These guys are very knowledgeable and you can learn a lot by reading their reviews. Just plan on spending some time reading and I promise it will pay off for you.....
  8. Has anyone heard any rumours or other news about any new models or updates coming out after Chinese New Year? I have read on other forums that some new watches will be released but just curious if anyone here has heard anything? Thx. -Murph'
  9. Link to Luxury Watch Database, Searchable by brand, movement, etc... Good searchable database at watchluxus for luxury watches, can search for quartz and the refine search by brand. Just in case anyone is wondering if a particular brand makes a quartz version. OT: Anyone heard any good rumors about Chinese New Year and any new watches or updates coming out? Not necessaryily quartz, just new watches or updates to watch for?
  10. Soooooo By-Tor....Should you have a new nickname on the forums? Mabyeeeee.....Crockett? LOL....That Don Johnson pic was hilarious! I hadn't thought about Miami Vice in years. I had 80s flashbacks of rolled up white jackets sleeves and pink ties....ha! Maybe I need to look for the watch that Mr. T or Faceman wore on The A-Team.....??? That was one of my favorites as a kid. Loved the Tag you listed too...I have a couple of Tag gens and haven't bought any their reps b/c they all look like the logo is distorted to me or the ones with the green/red logo, the colors are off a little, not crisp like the gen....I'm sure there are good ones but I guess I'm just a little overly critical of the Tag reps because my gens look so.....well, genuine....LOL I have to say I'm really diggin' the new Aquaracer 500m Caliper 5. That has probably moved into my top 5 in searching for a decent looking quartz sport watch. Gotta be water resistant though, I still struggle with having a rep that can't get wet (but that's another subject altogether) The black face model is my fave at this point (but that blue one you listed is sweeeeet) I just need to find a dealer who has a good quality quartz version of that watch. I'm having a hard time finding a good dealer who I know can get me what I want, without constantly bugging them for prices while I'm "just shopping" so have been searching the usual suspects that have an online presence (WE, Silix, Trusty, perfect clones) Watch Eden has far & away more quartz than any of the others, but have never ordered from them and not sure of the quality.
  11. Guys, I think we are talking about two different subjects while all agreeing on one very important point....No one wants to wear a "cheap" rep. The intent of this thread was not a Quartz vs Mechanical debate because I think we ALL agree that there is really no debate, part of your point, Maxman.... The intent of this thread was to find good quality quartz reps, not the el-cheapo versions. The intent was to find watches that are in design, weight, feel, general overall replication similar to the gen version. The primary difference being, it simply had the practicality and consistency of the quartz movement. For some models, like the Tag, Omega, Breitling's, that have gen's with quartz movements, this is not a big deal, the "tick" is not going to make you look silly because there is a gen of that same watch / movement. It gets tougher when we look at Brands that dont make a quartz version. I think HackR "gets it" and really sums up what I was trying to suggest. That there are some models like the HBB, ROO and Ebel that might be fun to try out prior to buying the 7750 to see if you like it. You want one that is going to exhibit the same/similar weight and overall feel of the 7750 without dropping the $ until you know you are going to like it. Sure, you could buy the cheaper asian movement to achieve the same purpose, but we all know that is luck of the draw sometimes on what you get.....The quartz is a much "safer" bet in that they are pretty consistent, at least from the movement quality POV. Now, you get to try out the watch's "feel" w/o as much worry about buying an el cheapo automatic movement that is going to crap out the 10th time you pull out the crown to set the time. I would also mention that these quartz models are not going to be the only watch in your watchbox, I'm sure you have a dress watch, sport watch, gen models as well. You wouldnt wear that same $7000 Panerai to go skiing or camping or on a sweaty 50k bike ride? At the same time, I dont think anyone would wear a HBB quartz version out to a function that it is going to make me look like they didnt know that it was a fake??? Hell, If I'm going to wear that watch out, I'm telling people it's a fake and a damn good fake at that...... But honestly, tell me if I wore that same HBB quartz to a Carolina Panthers game, that even 5% of the people I saw, would know what a Hublot Big Bang was, anyway??? As a PSL owner for the past 15 years, I can tell you that 5% is generous....ha! Great discussion guys, thanks....
  12. Now THAT is a good looking quartz rep....Sharp!!! Closest thing I found from all the usual website dealers was this, but yours looks much better...I understand that a lot of quality watches are probably not going to be found in a quartz though, so no real surprise...Good call By-Tor, thanks!
  13. JMB, I've heard good things about the Tags in general....I guess b/c they make gen quartz so that makes sense. Great pics HackR....I'll add 'em to the list....
  14. I was under the impression that there really isn't a true 1:1 rep, of any type....Whether it is $50 or $1000, there are still going to be some differences between the gen and rep....I may be wrong, but, that has been my understanding thus far in the month I have been learning.... So whether you are the "posterchild for fake watches" or "just a watch enthusiast that can appreciate a fine design but didn't want to drop $10,000 on this hobby". Either way, isn't it really about how you approach the hobby and what you are looking to get out of it? I'm not knockin' you bro....I'm just sayin'....
  15. Wow! Love that SMP, never really looked at that before, really sharp. And of course, the PO is one of my all time faves....I have the non-chrono 42mm from Reg with black bezel and orange numbers. Great suggestions....I'll start the list with these two. Any others out there?
  16. I know, I know.....A "Best Quartz" list? Blasphemy!!!! I completely agree from a purist POV, but from a practical POV, I am looking for a couple of decent quartz watches to keep as simple reliable accurate time keepers.....Just something that as RONCO says, "Set it....And forget it....." Something that you can pick up at any time and have an accurate time. Maybe something to keep in your watchcase that will "fit in" with your higher end reps that you can use to keep everything set to the correct time. Maybe something you can use at the gym or other sporting activities and not have to worry about the movement. Just a good ole, slap a battery in the sucker and let 'er run... Before we begin, I already own a couple of Japanese dive watches that are great....aka Seiko Monster, Various Orient & Citizens, etc...I know there are some great quartz watches out there that are fantastic for this purpose. However, I'm more curious about the rep world and if there are versions available that look good. I'd like to limit this to Quartz Rep versions (either sport or dress) of: 1) Higher end Quartz Gens (ie. Breitling Colt, Omega 300m/DeVille, Rolex Cellini, MontBlanc Sport, Tag F1/Aquaracer, etc...) 2) Higher end mechanicals (doesnt matter what type, just a good looking quartz version) I have done some searches and haven't found a good all inclusive list of Quartz reps. Doesn't matter whether you have a suggestion for a sport watch or a dress watch, just list your suggestion and why you like it and how you feel about the overall "look" of the watch compared to the truer higher end rep or gen version. I know they all tick, not the issue here....Just trying to build a list of Quartz options with good case design, nice bracelet, good weight and dial layout. I dont know if there is any interest amongst you purists out there but this is my first thread on RWG so try to keep the intent of the thread in mind before you blast me out of the water..... Thanks in advance, -Murph'
  17. As a noob to the hobby, this is very inspiring....Brilliant!!!
