Thats a cool diver....wasnt familiar with that one??? Interesting....
-
So Marty....How are you liking that MM after a few weeks? How does it wear?

I've always been a big fan of Orient....I dont currently own any b/c of my current interest in the rep world. I once owned an old Orient King Diver that I gave away.....I sure do miss that watch though and after seeing what they are going for on the bay, wish I had it back....ha! If anyone has any used Orients or really any decent Japanese dive watches: Seiko, Citizen, Orient or even Zodiac, please PM, I think I might just like to have one or two in my box again. Needs to be at least 42mm for me and the taller and thicker the better....

Where to buy an Oris Carlos Coste on SS Bracelet
Panther917 replied to rhelbling's topic in Other Brands Area
I think WatchEden has some various models and one comes on the SS bracelet. Another member here just bought a gen ss bracelet for his which is another option. Its a gorgeous watch.....I'd highly recommend one. -
This watch really does wear more like a 44mm. I have 6.5 wrist and can still wear it fine. I like "THICK" watches and that is the reason I think this wears more like a 44mm. It's a chunk 'o metal but I absolutely love mine....Just bough 2 custom leather straps to go with it. I have watched this watch for quite some time and thought it would be too big, but if you can wear a 45mm UPO or Rollie DSSD or a PAM 44mm then you can wear this watch....Dont hesitate....

Fleed, do you offer that lume job as a service? Cause if you dont, you should.....Man, thats amazing.
-
something like this? shoot me a PM and I can give you the scoop....
-
Wow! Love that lume job.....and the acetone on the glass is a nice touch. I really need to do those two things to mine. Scared to death to touch the lume though.... Did you do anything to the dial to age it? or leave it alone with the lume? Here is a quick pic of mine. Couple of mods: 1) Painted the second hand white per gen 2) Shaped the case to slim it down a little and make the crown more pronounced. 3) Shoulderless spring bars to make it more like gen and fit the regimental bond strap. I was going to put it on a mesh (which I just sold today) but just couldnt bear to cut those springbars so it will stay on the Bond. Movement is very nice, such a smooth sweep. Thanks for sharing yours.... -Murph'

That explains that good price.....Ha! I'll just use it in "sundial mode" It certainly is big enough......

2000ft and 7 days or a week with a Double Red
Panther917 replied to FxrAndy's topic in The Rolex Area
Excellent Post Andy.....Very inspiring to me.....I have been thinking about a similar "birthday watch" as I turn 40 this year too.....I have never modded a watch and this is the one that I would want to try. Not sure I have the steady hand and patience but you and the rest on this board have given me a great education nonetheless..... -
What about a "feedback rating" system like RG has started using? Not sure how it is actually working out over there but it is something that some varioation might be of benefit if it is not to tough to implement on the backend. Although new to RWG, I have bought and sold on Ebay for 13 years and value my 100% feedback rating greatly and only buy/sell to people with a solid track record. As a noob, It is starting to get easier for me to know who is on the up & up here on this forum (my favorite btw....) and have purchased about 20 reps from trusted dealers and members. Luckily, all have been great watches (although some better than others) but I'm learning that when someone like HackR or Excelonman sells me a watch, I know it's tip-top, and know what to expect from trusted dealers as well. That just comes with trial /error but if we had a feedback system of some sort that showed on your Profile name, similar to a Reputaton rating or such at other forums, but limited to buy/sell ratings, it might help us all to have a quick glance at the level of ethics we are dealing with in that person. Maybe even a star system rated on: 1) Quality as described 2) Prompt and well packed shipping 3) Overall satisfaction Not even sure if any of that is possible, just a suggestion.

yeah, I'd prefer to see one in a 42mm.....I'd snap one up in a heartbeat....

If you had to narrow it down to to put into a 4 watch traveler: What would you choose if you had to have one in each of the following categories? 1) Chrono 2) Dressy Hand Wind 3) Sporty automatic 4) Quartz for outdoor activity 5) MISC FAVE - ANY CATEGORY - You could actually wear this one and keep the other 4 in a travel case....ha!

Do your rep/s go on holiday/vaction with you?
Panther917 replied to PeteM's topic in General Discussion
Anyone care to say, What, they bring with them? If you had to narrow it down to to put into a 4 watch traveler: 1) Chrono 2) Dressy Hand Wind 3) Sporty auto 4) Quartz for outdoor activity I am trying to narrow my collection down to include 2 for each category and then 2 misc other favorites - 10 watch total I always like to hear other peoples suggestions as to their preferences.... -
You cant go wrong with the Omega PO or SMP, they were my first 2 reps and were great accurate reps that felt good, looked good and got me hooked on this hobby....ha! I almost wish I had gotten a couple of bad reps so I could have just walked away from this whole thing.....ha! I have a small wrist just over 6.5" so if you need any help with watch size, I can shoot you some of my experiences with different brands. I tend to like the divers vs. the dressy ones. It would also help to know if you are trying to plan 1 watch or 2 and what your budget is....Depending on your use, you might have enough of a budget to get 2 decent good quality starter watches vs. a higher end general purpose watch.....There are some great starter watches that have the same or similar case/bracelet as the higher end ones so you get the look without the cost. These aren't really the kind you want to keep forever and have repaired/serviced, etc... but then you know what you like and can either upgrade later or choose a different watch for a while.

Not so much.....These are about as chunky as you can get. They are not the best looking watches, no doubt, but the function is great. Great running and cycling functions but they are really more of features over aesthetics. There are some decent Suuntos that might be an interesting change..... and of course, the G-shocks, many chunky versions. I'm partial to the frogmans from a rugged digital look, but its more of a diver. I like the Suunto for a balance of looks vs. function but that Casio you posted is pretty cool looking and you have a good track record with them so you know how they function and could appreciate the new style vs. what you have been wearing so that might be the best personal choice. I would probably choose a Suunto, but that's strictly personal, when I choose a digital, I want it to be b/c it offers something that a beautiful mechanical cant offer, like Hear Rate, speed tracking, GPS tracking, altimeter, downloadable data to your PC, etc... or else I would just choose a quartz diver of some sort. There are some pretty sick quartz divers out there if you go in that direction. You can beat em up and they tell perfect time. zero maintenance.... I'm thinking about this Seiko quartz diver myself as I've been looking for a couple of good reliable quartz reps to use to work out, hike, bike, etc.... This sucker is indestructible and is a big chunky watch... But, I digress....

+1 on the Polar's. They are all I use when working out....I'm an avid cyclist and they are consistent, have awesome workout features depending on what your concentration is, Ebay has some good deals if you are not tied to one particular model and you can find some great used models. If you track your HR or want lap time features, I would encourage a Polar. That G-shock is really cool looking though (for a casio) but if you want a feature rich watch that is made specifically for working out and/or running/biking/hiking etc....give the Polar a look.....If you decide to go that route, shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to help you find the best deal available on your top 2-3 choices. Good luck and Happy "early" Birthday.... -Murph

How to ship to / from EU from CONUS ?
Panther917 replied to Panther917's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the tips.....I sent using USPS priority international flat rate box as a broken watch for repair, to be returned. Cost was abut $15.00 to the UK....We'll hope for the best.... -
Now that's creative.....

Now that I have been a member for a couple of months and have accumulated some great reps (thanks to you guys) but now, this hobby, has turned into a quest for the holy grail-watch and getting a little out of control....ha! I am starting to sell off some to fund others on that quest and had some questions about shipping options and how to best handle an international transaction. Any suggestions on how best to ship to the UK or other EU country? How do you best determine the exchange rate? Do you ship through USPS through the Priority Mail flat rate box? What about customs issues? I have two watches that need to get shipped tomorrow so any advice would be appreciated....

Any good quartz watches out there? A "Best Quartz" list....
Panther917 replied to Panther917's topic in General Discussion
.....this is a noob alert, an inexperienced noob alert.....(siren sound) Guys, I know this is completely off topic but I need some help from you old timers. I have sold a couple of watches that I need to ship to the UK but I have never done this before, could someone PM me with instructions regarding how to go about doing this.....Maybe even a link to another thread. I tried the search bar but couldnt really find what I was looking for and need to get started on this. I'm not sure about things like: What mail service to use, how to package to avoid risk, how to arrange payment, etc....I've always used the flat rate USPS boxes here in the CONUS but the whole customs thing, concerns me. Thanks in advance..... .....you will now be returned to your regularly scheduled programming.....(siren ends) -

Interesting watch....Similar to the one JJ69 mentioned. I have never really paid much attention to the Porche Designs. Not sure why, it's a sharp looking watch. Thanks... -

Panther917 replied to Panther917's topic in General Discussion
Starting to narrow things down a little....LOL Well, not so much.... I just realized that they are all black face and all chrono? That wasn't intentional, in fact, I love white face dials.....not sure how that happened??? Anyone have any experience with any of these to know if the quality is a similar "feel" to the higher end autos? and if any would be tougher to make "water resistant" or is that just not a viable option in a chrono?
