  1. It appears so...other rep makers copied the pre-production dial from gen 249 prototype photos. Production gen as you know comes without 'california' txt on the dial 'Patience is a virtue' cheers, babola
  2. Mate, we seem to talk the same language here... I've got the 'original' old-style Base Logo (polished C/G, 201/a caseback) rep as well...and I'm very happy with it, despite all the flaws...yes, that letter 'R' is really stupid mistake...after over 3 years of getting it right, rep dial makers decided to change the font, LOL! Of course, letter 'A' will never be fixed, I'm sure this is one of those 'intentional flaws' I basically had two choices to choose between: 1) Old-style Base logo rep with correct Swiss ETA OPII mov't and all the flaws aforementioned, for $200 or 2) Updated 2006 "pseudo H-series" logo with mismatched G-series dial and H-series logo caseback and correct Swiss ETA OPXI mov't, and correct brushed C/G for close to $300 Since both of them have wrong bits, I decided to cut my cost down and get the old-style one, swapped the polished CG with the brushed one on my 001 (that made them both look 'right)...and got the correct G-series caseback as a spare part from one of our dealers. One thing is for sure, the Logo on 005 is wrong as you said, 000 rep got it right, almost 1:1 to gen. The 000 also has a different dial finish, it's more grainy when you look at the watch at a certain angle, this is again closer to gen than 111H/177H rep dial for example. Gee...I can go on and on all night about this stuff...better cut it short now...good night cheers, babola
  3. Now, that's some 'flava' mate babola
  4. Your pics show a gen 177G with painted/sausage dial. Those used to come with green-ish lume when charged. H-series (sandwich dials) glow with more blue-ish charged lume color. Davidsen's latest lume color is true to the gen H-series 44mm sandwich-dial Luminors. Also the off-white color of the dial indices and hands is extremely close to 1:1 cheers, babola
  5. ...and another little detail that got missed - rep Logo Base with 'L Swiss Made L' (H-series dial) hasn't been made yet So, definitely gen... babola
  6. Old school it is... I wish reps we get these days had some of the quality of 'older' rep generations cheers, babola
  7. Gen Luminor PAMs come with 6497-2 mov't with higher beat of 21,000bph. ...reps in the same category on the other hand come with either Swiss or Asian ETA 6497-1 (17,600bph), or Asian-only 6497-2 with higher beat. cheers, babola
  8. ...and the funny thing is - that shouldn't be that hard to achieve, at all ! cheers, babola
  9. It almost feels like 111 and 112 gen dials are made/lumed by two different factories... This is one of the reasons I like PAM reps...you can never say one is 100% 'wrong' over another...even gens are all different, anyway. cheers, babola
  10. HA ! Panerai uses 'double standards' ! LOL ! ...and I love my 111H rep with blueish A/R even more now So I was @ my AD store last week checking the Logo Base (PAM000), I was surprised at the quality of A/R ...and guess what - it didn't have any tint at all, whatsoever - completely transparent. Also, there are some Paneristi from the gen forum who recently purchased gen Luminor PAMs and reported the blueish tint ...hmm, mind boggles doesn't it At leat one thing is costant with Panerai - their products are never 'constant'...and product finishes vary even from one series to another. cheers mate, babola
  11. Good one Flav mate, also a good chance for others (seniors and noobs alike) to spot some of the most obvious differences between 111 sandwich dial gen and rep...and for some that used to send me PMs like "...what are you going on about babola, the 111H rep is perfect !?..." Kosta will surely know what I mean of course... he's had both gen and rep for some time and is more than aware about the rep's flaws. - numbers 2, 3 and 6 are quite different - Panerai changed the shape in 2005 on their first sandwich dial Luminor series - as most of us know by now, dial txt is off-white/salmon/cream color NOT white as on 111H rep - txt 'Luminor Marina' is larger on rep, the font is bigger in size, and strangely enough bigger than the 'Panerai' txt above 6 o'clock - L Swiss Made L is wrong size and wider on the rep than it should be, also too close to number 6 - obvious thin crown and CG issues on the rep - caseback is thinner than on gens...Kosta was the first one to identify this 'feature' - case on the rep is different, lugs are thicker and shorter, also there's a cutout on the rep case between the lugs to accomodate thicker straps...gens don't have that. - A/R coat on gen is transparent...colourless...some reps carry blueish or pinkish crystal hue, not great but does the job That said - the 111H rep is a lovely watch, and on its own holds an admirable presence...until you start comparing it side by side, of course cheers, babola
  12. Work of art, mate ! Great result, and I agree with others - ivory stitching works much better on PAM straps...also one of the areas Greg Stevens straps need a "bit of work" IMO Just as you, he's already looking at optional thread colours to replace his plain white stitching. cheers, babola
  13. To get back to the original post.... The watch is actually pretty bad looking...Eddie should know that the dial and hands that belong to 47mm watch don't fit well the 45mm one...it's the watch making basics 101. Taking the dial and hands from a cheap rep and building the one you call your own can fool a lot of people, but not guys like us. I know he's aiming at Vintage look but he could have at least made some efforts on re-luming that dial, though... cheers, babola
  14. Hmm, I believe that's a bit "rich" for a Ti case only, especially considering the fact it's PAM118 case that comes with 'thin' CG as gen. Current 118/176/177/036/061/040 Luminor rep cases are very close to the gen 118 case...save yourself some dosh ...as always, only from my point of view cheers, babola
  15. Yes, on one of my recent Fiddys. The A/R coating was quite different compared to others, the overal hue was pink not blue, and the rainbow effect was especially evident at the round edge part of the xtal. I replaced it with one of DSN's and - voila...:-) Mate, if it's bugging you too much, save yourself from grief, get the replacement 44mm xtal from DSN or another dealer of your choice. On the other hand, it pays to check if the standard 44mm Luminor xtal will fit Subs ? Anyone ? cheers, babola
  16. Nice one mate, one of Davidsen's I presume cheers, babola
  17. 111G C/G is actually the same (brushed) as on 111H The ones with polished C/G are 111E & F series. Panerai re-introduced the thick brushed C/G in 2004, with their painted/sausage dials 44mm Luminors. This fact makes the gen 111G (painted dial, brushed C/G) one of the most wanted and praised Historic pams of late, for example. cheers, babola
  18. Honestly, if the dial doesn't sing back to you - sell it and buy one that does...no strap/bracelet combo will fix the fact, sorry...at least that's the case with me. If it doesn't get worn and doesn't get an equal share of your "wrist time"...than I call it an 'orphan'...why wasting the watchbox space cheers, babola
  19. FYI, 5218-201 was never made as destro... cheers, babola
  20. Definitelly NOT C3 in it's pure unaltered form, period. It (C3) may well be the 'base carrier' lume, but mixed with other pigments to make it appear white or slightly off-white/ivory. Whoever says it's pure C3 must be color blind...sorry guys to be rude here, but we've beaten this horse to a pulp over and over again on all three forums and we still have people asking the same questions I've got 5 of my 44mm Luminor rep watches done in different C1/C3/C7 mixtures...so far the closest one compared to a gen 000 Base @ my AD shop is a mix of 3/4 C1 with 1/4 C3. cheers, babola
  21. That's strange, because it was other way around in my case...my now close to 2 yrs old 0117/1950 from Eddie Lee has the case with movement coming out from the back...the latest one from Davidsen (again 0117 case) mov't goes in from the front. I know this because I worked on both myself. It seems like there's no such thing as 'old' or 'new' Fiddy 0117 case, they were simply two versions available then as are now. cheers, babola
  22. Not sure about the case itself, but the CG/pin/crown assembly is WAY off anything considered 'standard' these days. CG is very off looking, it's supposed to be a replica of the Vendome A-F series thin polished CG but on the pics the lever is centered and it shouldn't be, it's 'pushed' towards the top of a CG on a gen/standard rep. CG Lever is also off, just compare that lever tip with other rep's. Lever pin diametar is also smaller. Crown teeth are spaced too far from one another, the total number of teeth is lesser that on the standard gen/rep crown. I'd stay away from it... cheers, babola
  23. Guys, if any of you has leftover F-series casebacks they could live without after the solid caseback mod, shoot me a PM, I may be interested in one cheers, babola
  24. Ditto, spacer rings on older style Fiddy cases where mov't is inserted from the back, and wider inner edge (stopper) on newer Fiddy cases where mov't is installed thru the front (so the crystal and bezel needs to be removed first). cheers, babola
