  1. Its an eta overlay I found on ebay, it has no open 6 or 9 but some numbers have a vintage font as opposed to more modern and vice versa. I picked this over the silver one for the time being as the silver has too much sparkle and I figured it would look odd with the newer looking dial.

I am very happy with the dwo and how it aligns, althougt the reason the date is riding low is the movement has shifted slightly lending to that effect. My next step is a custom movement holder ring and a true vintage overlay.

If you have any leads on either that would be great.

    Thanks guys

Good vintage overlays are hard to come by especially as the flaws are noticeable in the cyclops. The silver cartel one are pretty bad for that. I just brought a couple of gen vintage ones with the right date rotation, they do exist. Problem is making them thin enough to use as an overlay. i destroyed one trying to work it on my 1675.

Yuki supposedly has the movement holders ...

    Cheers

  2. Bingo, this is my exact setup except my ring is plastic and when installed it causes the dial to shift from the movement which creates alignment issues with the date ect.

Mabye I should ask my modder to install a better movement ring, looks like yours worked out great.

BTW, I did the pinion upgrade already to get more height for the hands. Have you had any issues with yours in the past??? I think my dial is held by dial dots and pressure from the movement tabs so im not sure if thats the best way.

    Thanks

Forget dial dots, they're crap. Tell your modder to use hypo cement to glue a dial spacer to the movement then glue the dial to the spacer. It should give enough clearance for the datewheel to move freely and the dial will be secure.

A plastic movement ring won't work because you need a solid platform for the movement clamps and screws. Get a new movement holder from Yuki and maybe a new modder too ...

    Cheers

  3. @Pete...

Yeha, you have the skilles for the modding of the cg (inside) i think you should do it! At least when you feel the time is right, i meen the watch is amazing as it, but shaving the inside of the cg would be top noch!!!

Damn i knew you were gonna say that :) I think i gonna change the crown too so will do same time

    Cheers

  4. Nice job,Pete. I like the way you installed a 2893-2 in there. Maybe you could tell us a little more about it- where did the spacer ring come from? You mentioned the taller pinions and I guess the stem lined up ok with the tube and crown.

    Thanks Alligoat.

Great thing with using a 2893 is that it all lines up in the case like a gen plus the datewheel overlay fits under the GMT gear so no binding like with a 2836. The spacer ring is from Rafflestime but i had to shave it down with a dremel to make it fit, best get one from Yuki it seems.

Taller pinnions are a must on all the 2893's i've used

    Cheers

  5. Nice job as always P!  It's a shame the Phong bezel doesn't fit a gen insert.

Thanks mate. Actually its not a Phong bezel, i'm sure his would work with a gen insert. I was trying to keep costs down so only got the Phong mid-case. Bezel came from Ebay seller World_time_inc who asks $350 for the whole assembly i offered him much lower and he accepted.

    Cheers

  6. I always wanted to see that phong case of this build :) and now i have, thanks Pete for posting! Watch looks realy nice, have you done somthing to the cg´s? or came it like that?

Cheers for another great 1675 build in the thread!!! I love this topic!!!

Thanks mate, you really started something here .... i just softened all the sharp edges on the whole case, cg's are as is. Thought about taking a little off of the inside of them but decided not to ..

    Cheers

  7. Congratulations.

(Am I the only one who thinks, if I picked up a gen AirKing for $700 with a beautiful open six datewheel like that... I'd have the movement beating inside a MBW 1665 and be working on a franken AK to give to my son? It's a disease, I tell ya.)

Been there done that, its contagious all right ...  Nice deal

  8. Ok after a long time gathering parts and having work done my 1675 is finally here so glad this thread is still going. Here are the specs.

    - Phong mid case

    - World_time_inc bezel assembly from Ebay. Expensive (i didn't pay what they were asking) and doesn't fit a gen insert. I had to shave this one and bleached it too. Not recommended

    - Gen 116 tropic

    - Raffles time caseback

    - ETA top grade 2893-2 GMT movement with taller GMT, hour, minute and second pinnions installed.

    - Gen tube and 5.3 mm crown (not sure about that crown)

    - Gen dial relumed by Vac

    - CWP handset with Gen 1675 GMT hand relumed by Vac

    - Datewheel from early MBW

    - Rep jubilee bracelet with gen endlinks and clasp

  9. I bought a 1655 case from ingod44 and I also found the crystal they used was a little loose fitting. I tried a clarks that I had laying a round and it was loose as well. I have another 116 crystal coming from WSO to try. What movement do you have in there if you dont mind me asking?

Can you also post pics of your 1655 case, will be useful also

    Cheers

its a 1570 movement with the rotor assembly removed

  11. Just to put a close in this thread, and thanks all for your info, the watch was confirmed gen by RSC, they asked me an outrageous amount of money to replace the dial, crystal and bezel, I didn't make any changes and the daytona is now SOLD.

Unfortunately I do not have more pics of the mvt, but it was a zenith.

    thanks again

Can you please tell what the "outrageous amount of money" was

    Cheers

  12. For a hunk of bling, it is a beautiful sight to behold. I would have it properly serviced asap, so it works when that special event arrives.

If you fit the bill & in the right environment, it should work nicely. Just be sure not to be seen evacuating an Evo, Suburu, minivan or similar vehicle when you arrive.

I queued up behind a very beautiful woman in 7-11 yesterday paying her utility bills wearing the gen of this .... fantastic looking watch, especially on a womans wrist

    Cheers

  13. I have some. However the dial ring look exactly the same, but the one for a 2834 and 2824 are different than a 2836-2.Just a hair smaller

Thanks but i need a dial spacer not the rings. It leave a small space for the datewheel to work ... is this what you have ?

    Cheers
