  1. And the one I just bought from JD...gen dial and hands, top grade eta7750, AR and gen strap incoming (more pics when I get it)
  2. Don't know if Croc (Primestraps) hangs here, but the one he made for his is amazing.
  3. Awesome watch - wear it well.
  4. Well, $99 when the first guy bought it. I was in a very cool vintage store in Boston yesterday and the guy showed me this. He had just sold it on ebay for $2200. An immacualtte Percision, with all the original box, paper, blank warranty, etc.. and the receipt from the military PX for $99
  5. Thanks guys. So its 1570 or a 2846. Time to do some nore research.
  6. Bought this here from Sly, great deal and great guy, then sourced the 19mm rivit from VRF. So the only thing you're seeing that not gen are the hands (which I do have, just need to be cleaned) and the crystal. Any of you gurus know what the correct movement would be, and in th alternative also what the best ETA movement would be? running an A2834 now. Lovin' this little thing
  7. You're right and I did both. And good one's too - Yuki/BK/Pbdad and the like. The small size was a problem for me. I love the history, have all the source vintage books, and the intricacy of the builds, but when I got them on they didn't do it for me.
  8. This is an interesting hobby. I've had gen daytona owners tell me they couldn't believe how close the rep was. I've had the same thing, gen owners saying the rep of the Breitling Blacksteel is dead on and others say it sucks and isn't close. I've worn the gen a number of times. I'm only really interested in daytona and subs, so although I know you can build frankens of the others, it's not for me. I was just hoping to find out the best way to get a gen bracelet and crown. Gen bracelet and crown on a good rep and I'd be happy. Even it's 2k it's a 8k less than the gen.
  9. Um, I know the gen isn't ARed. I have also had the gen and the rep next to each other and the rep crystal is not nearly as sharp. I think it looks closer to gen and way better with AR. that's why. But thanks for pointing out my "glaring error". Here's a thread on frnakening the new DSSD.
  10. My boss and closest associate at work are WIS, or at least "watch guys" (Zenith, Chopard, Balncpain between them) that don't play on this side. This somewhat limits my ability to show up with any old 40k Comex or Newman Daytona, (or AP RBll for that matter),since they would go right into 20 questions and then Google and ebay, so it looks like I'm sticking with the modern Rollies which I could actually afford. My wife approves of this as well, making my life a little simpler I'm awaiting my DDSD back from VAC (pics when I get it) which i had every mod he does done to, and he sent it out for AR. I also just ordered a 2001 model black dial/grey subs Daytona, my favorite. I just had a very brief, like a weekend, flirtation with Breitling, and in shopping around almost every one was franken - dials, bracelets, bezels, movements etc... You see these on vintage Rolex models, but I very rarely see a franken modern Rolex. I've seen a few from 5th Group and there's one over at RWI now, a Datejust.Obviously there's less floating around so there's less parts and I get their not as "interesting" in a sense, but the Breitlings are all new and that doesn't seem to stop them. So - am I missing something? Are there lots of Frankens? Are the parts simply impossible to get? Is there someone out there that can? I'd love to get gen bracelets and crowns for both, at least. thanks in advance Citizen
  11. Very nice TJ
  12. Wow - just beautiful.
  13. Totally relate to this. I have 2 "watch guys" I see all the time, one my boss who wears a Zenith and a Chopard, the other another co-worker with a Blancpain. Since they know what I make they have no problem believeing my DSSD of even my vintage GMT are gen, but I would never rock a DRSD or Comex or something like the Chronopassion, because they would defitely ask about them and the gig is up.....5k I could own, 35k not so much.
  14. I've bought 3 watches from Josh and all were great communication and product. I have sent a couple watches, gen seikos, when I was into that stuff, to Asia and it can take a month easy.
  15. I guess that's why these are my favorite bikes... http://www.zero-eng.com/
  16. In discussions of the Abyss I've seen comments about the fact that people "just don't get it" because what you're wearing is "per se" fake. Since there's no such thing as a big modern DSSD that's destro and 50 years old what you're wearing can't be real. That said, there seems to be tons of people wearing Comex, Paul Newman, McQueens, Double Reds and other watches that if real would cost $35-$100k. Given Project X, Black Out Concept, Black Ltd. Editions, Bamford etc... as well as threads on the Rolex forums where people are modifying there own watches, (probably as a result of those companies making it "ok"),it seems to me in terms of the Abyss type watch there's a pretty good precident for answering the 1% of people that might notice and ask to just say "I had it modified". Actually, it seems to me it's much more likely that I would take a used 6k DSSD and have it modified, something I could in fact do, then that I bought a $50k vintage, which in fact I couldn't do. I'm getting a second "fantasy" watch from Donerix, a version of his China Clipper, (a modern GMT ll with shaved guards, plexi etc..) so I was thinking about this. Not aking a stand, just thinking out loud.
  17. In case you think Donerix's imagination and faded bezel is too far from reality http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-GMT-Master-16750-Vintage-/110624886798?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item19c1c1d00e#ht_4059wt_1141
  18. Bought a gen 6694 for a grand last night. I'll post pics when I get it if anybody is interested.
  19. I think that Yuki is really nice. Wonder if a better movement can be swapped in.
  20. OK - love these. Can someone recommend a good rep vintage 6694 Datejust, or date like the one right above to start with, hopefully swiss? I found a 6694 thru Google, but I'd rather starat from a trusted seller. thanks again
  21. I'm going to second the linen dialed Datejust. Wow. thanks for thew pics all
  22. I've been on this "getting a gen thing" the last few days. I even have the stash to do it. Been mostly looking at vintage Explorers and Air Kings in the 2k range. But I keep coming back to my "issue" of paying 2k for a 40 yr old beater that needs a $500 service...you know the story. I've owned a bunch of micro-brews over the last few years like the Helson Shark Diver (316SS/ETA 2824/2000m/beautiful finish) that just make it hard to understand how a DSSD costs 9k. I'm sort of on this littlish watch thing right now. Would love to see pics of some vintage ones, not subs or Daytonas (only becuase I've seen hundreds of them, not because there not beautiful), just some clean vintage gen looking projects. If you're interested in selling.... thanks Citizen
  23. Another qusetion - in the book "Vintage Rolex Sports Models" for the 6265 bracelet it says: "19mm rivited bracelet". In order to be correct does a 6265 need to have a rivited bracelet? Where does one get a nice/best rep one? thanks again
