  1. there is a member on the RG forum who is as well a delaer at ioffer who claims that this one has been replicated with the functioning PR...don't know how the movement looks like...I've asked him a couple of times to post photos but he refuses to do so...

he said the price for these is 1400$ and that all the pieces are sold out and that there is a waiting list for them...

cannot say that he speaks the truth or not...it seems that he has still a source for the hard abtainable PAM027/028 and PAM029 with the 2892//2893 movements....

    $1400 for a REP?!?!?!?!?! :o

That's beyond ridiculous. If those really are available and they are all sold out, PT Barnum was right -- There *is* a sucker born every minute.

I might be interested in a 2893 powered 029, though. Can you PM me the info for this fella?

  2. I have been admiring the PAM 233 and 270 models that utilize Panerai's new in house movements and the "Fang" power reserve indicator. For you more knowledgeable watch experts out there, did Panerai utilize this design/layout to make replicating their watches more difficult? This type of design seems unlike any other manufacturer.

    Thanks!

Yes and no, IMO. The linear power reserve indicator is something that takes a lot of work to get right, even in the gen world. Panerai did it as another selling point to their new inhouse movements. It also happens to be impossible for the Chinese movement makers to do at the moment.

Given the speed of advances in the Chinese movements, it won't stay un-repped forever, I'd wager.

  3. Ok i just think it was strange to see a all black team in the US Olympic team...

Not really so strange, take a look at the NBA All Star team starting lineup for this past season:

    Jason Kidd

    Dwyane Wade

    Kevin Garnett

    LeBron James

    Dwight Howard

    Kobe Bryant

    Allen Iverson

    Carmelo Anthony

    Tim Duncan

    Yao Ming

Don't see a lot of white faces in there, do you? ;)

  4. Many good white players in the NBA..Most of them are not US citizens though ^_^

Yep, the majority of really good white players in the NBA are European. The only exception that immediately comes to mind is Steve Nash, and he's Canadian, so you won't be seeing him on Team USA, either.

  5. I'd have to agree with Peepshow on this one... its pretty much bad form to outright lie and try to pass 'em off as gens when anyone asks anyhow...

And in your specific situation having friends that may begin to qualify as "paneristi"... have you felt your friends out for their feelings about rep watches?

You could inadvertently harm or end a friendship if a rep watch offends them too much.

Perhaps set your sights a bit lower and find a nice MM 47mm rep. :D

I think an "unbranded" Marina Militare 47mm might be right up your alley. If it *has* to be a rep, perhaps one of DSN's RXW MM20 reps? High quality and much less likely to get called out. That's rolling the dice with DSN's QC issues, though.

  6. ...but the actions of a dealer against another in a foreign country we know nothing about and in a Mafioso based caste system? Seems to me that has nothing to do with the dealer/cutomer relationships which are individual ones. That is, if you hear the story about Andrew and you don't like it - easy - boycott him and buy from Angus or whoever - problem solved. All this is just placing the dealer "bar" too high IMO. This is about a watch in exchange for cash and you said yourself that is all they are doing here...

But the crux of the issue isn't, for me at least, which dealer propsers and which dealer doesn't. This isn't a business ethics question for me, it's about how those actions effect my bottom line.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the reason I take issue with these actions are because IT IS BAD FOR US COLLECTORS.

I don't know any of the dealers here or on any forum, and I couldn't care less which ones succeed and which ones don't. I just can't abide any dealer actions that result in artificially higher prices for us.

  7. ...I just don't mix my role as a consumer with other things. To that end, as long as say, Joshua, in my case, literally slathers me personally with customer service, I could care less how many others he burns down in the process if that is the case. It makes no difference to me the way a man makes a living so long as his interests don't conflict with mine....

So, attempting to force higher prices doesn't conflict with your interests? Interesting. You must be far wealthier than I am. ;)

These watches are just trinkets/baubles, but I get a certain amount of enjoyment from them. I don't want to have to pay more for that enjoyment than I have to. Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard. :D
