  1. The question is, do you wish to build this yourself. Or throw money at the project and have someone else build it.
  2. Seconding that, they look far to far spaced out to be a 7750
  3. Does DW have a page with listings of his cases etc? I'm not too worried about case re-shaping as I tend to do quite a lot anyway. Maybe not to the extent of RA but enough. Definitely curious to see how it would work out cost wise vs Yuki case set. This would be for a full rep build anyway. Planning for a serviced low beat 2846 with hacking lever removed. Or worst case it would be a 2836 clone with 2846 low beat running gear and hacking lever removed. Whichever works out best.
  4. Yeah,. looking at it more it really isn't an appealing side profile. Ingod is $550 and Yuki is $530 + $50 for engravings. Would love to see some Yuki cased builds if anyone has.
  5. Hmm, what say ye educated masses on the accuraces of the three different case sets? From just initial observations: Ingod lugs appear too thin, Yuki appear better, don't drop off so fast and retain a chunkier look Neither seem to have the correct thicker bezel, they are quite thin Difficult to tell on the crownguards from the angles that they give, Yuki appear pretty fat, which is better than too thin Ingod crown position looks good, can't tell with Yuki Crownguard shape appears better on Yuki overall Ingod on white background, Yuki on black.
  6. Not that much, I think the Silix case set was $85 or so, the rest is just a new plexi, new pearl and labour. Parts alone is only about $130, then whoever does the work and what they charge is the bigger part of the build.
  7. I never countersink springbar holes. Ever. The case sides are given what I would call restorative polishing. Usually I will take it down with coarse grit paper and re-work it all the way back up to polishing on the bench polisher. This creates the 'countersunk' look to the springbar holes that you would get from polishing the case sides over the decades of use. Ok it might take a few hours to do, but It's much more natural looking than countersinking with a drill bit.
  8. Thanks guys, this was a challenging build. Was very much a shame to see it go out the door to its new owner. I was just a very very temporary caretaker of it whilst being built. I have something special planned for the next build, which will be my first personal build in a long time.
  9. Following on from this thread where I had issues with the dial opening and dial set of the old school case. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/155754-old-school-mbw-1680-build-ingod-dial-issues/ I sourced a 10mm mill bit and actually worked the case myself in my drill press. Something I never wish to repeat. But I think it turned out ok. 10. I did a bond watch for a customer a while ago. http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/ubiquitous-james-bond-108780.html
  11. Sure, I'd be interested in a few. Planning some more builds in the future and it would be handy to have some in the parts drawer.
  12. After a bit of back and forth with Phong I've come round to the 700 idea. He's sure the tap size is the same for all the crown tubes which is a worry less. Thanks for everyones advice, I'll post up some pics of the final build.
  13. So for a early 5512 we are looking at a 700 then. Guess that makes sense. Of course accuracy aside there's the issue of actually getting the correct tap for it.
  14. Hmm, got this response to my questions from Phong 5512 old watch under 2-3 mil can be use 24-700-0 better. with 3 dot crown that good for that no need for 7020 the after market 7020 professional able to tell but if you use 24-7000 is good like factory From my research, it looks like 5512's started in the 3 mil range, 1958 or so. Can't see any evidence for earlier ones. Would they have come with the 700? Also, I think someone on here said the thread for the 700 tube is different to the later versions, so I'm thinking to stick with the 702 since i have all the correct taps for that.
  15. I thought so, just checking. Looks like Phongs 702 crown tube combo is $150. Anyone have experience of his 702 crown??
  16. Does the Yuki tube fit a 702 crown? I'll have a look at phong though, thanks.
  17. I had heard rumours that someone known to the board had manufactured some aftermarket 702 tubes. Tubes that is, not the crowns. There's quite a few about it seems.
  18. Gen hands are not black they are silver just like the rep. The green crystal is an AR coating, the aftermarket ones from eBay are exactly the same. Some have a green gasket as well. Rolex holds the only patent on the manufacturing process for the green sapphire crystal.
  19. Seems this is the stumbling block for a lot of builds. I would love one but finding an aftermarket one seems impossible and gens are just silly. Do we have any solutions to this at all other than patience?
  20. Andrew and Josh, sometimes referred to as Jandrew due to questions over their individual identities are essentially the same seller when it comes to prices and service. When you select which country you are from it should give you shipping options. You pay, they go get the watch and then send you QC pics You will pay one shipping fee based on the service you have asked for.
  21. Puretime is down due to server HD issues, Yuki is working for me and Phong is expired.
  22. Initial single printing cost is just over £27 so if it comes and works out ok then I can see about getting a small run done (out of my own pocket) and then seeing if they would give a discount.
