Quick question for you knowledgeable chaps.
Dial feet on a Yuki snowflake dial. Detailed as fitting a 2472 movement.
Are the feet positions on 2472 and 2836 movements the same?
Second question.
Stem thread compatibility between movements and crowns.
For example, a 21j movement, but fitting gen crown, will it fit on the same stem?
And again, 2836 movement stem, fitting a gen crown, will it fit?
Thanks again folks.
Bones.
He's asking about ceramic subs not the older style. Most of the dealers are probably carrying the same version. Some are advertising gold layed down in a process similar to DLC/PVD so supposed to be harder wearing. But none are offering wrapped mid links any more.
I had a lot of issues getting the bezels back on these subs. Basically any of the ones with the retaining spring. But i've learned that forcing it into the gap usually locks the bezel in place. You can actually clip all but the last little section in with your hands.

Case is a SD with HEV but at this price it could be used as a transplant donor. Need to find out the width of the dial though.
Good god, if i had owned that i'd never have let it go. If I bought it from someone I would also not have it served (movement yes, everything else untouched!). You cannot and never will be able to properly replicate 33 years of patina.
The hands are just set wrong, a very easy job for someone with the correct tools. Might be better just finding a trusted watchsmith to do it for you. Shouldn't cost much at all. A silly little mistake but sending all the way back to China will take much much longer.
Well thank you, that's high praise indeed. The bracelet was always going to be a detractor unfortunately. But as always budget is the main issue. A yuki bracelet is more than the sum of the watch. The seconds hand I knew would divide opinion (ie me on one side and everyone else on the other ) But i'll take your comments on board. Thanks again
I must say, out of all the builds I've done so far, this was not only the most fun, but definitely my favourite. I've got another 6538 case ready for working on, but im away for a week from monday so wont get a chance to do anything to it till i get back. Have to say though, even though its kind of wrong, I prefer the second dial/hand combo.
Silix case reshaped, edges softened.
Caseback given wear marks and re-polished
Case Re-polished going from 250 grit down to 9 micron jewelers paper and finally on buffing wheel with green polishing compound
8mm Brevet Crown
Clarks bezel insert minus pearl
Clarks 1.8mm Shoulderless springbars
Silix Rivet bracelet given wear and tear
Dial and hands aged, given bubbled tritium look.
Plexi crystal re-shaped by hand then re-polished with Polywatch
And with a slightly different dial and hand set.
It's not like Nanuq's photo. I'll get a shot of one of the other cases later and post it. It's a ledge on the inside lip of the rehaut rather than a pressure/snap fit with retaining ring like gen. Like you said, more like the modern cases.
I got Michelle at Silix to make up a few custom pieces. These are two of them. They have a lot of the right pieces, they just tend to be a bit mismatched. The cases are actually a new design from them. Instead of the crystal sitting in a groove it sits on a ledge inside the rehaut. Whether it takes gen sizes im not sure, but considering sternkreutz (sp?) do so many variations of plexi crystals you should have no problem.
