  1. was posting this old pic up for another forum and thought some of you might like to see it since they arent that common. please excuse the gold crown though. photo was taken while i was waiting on a replacement stem for the cal 1570 movement and this was all i could get with the correct stem to keep the watch working till i could replace the stainless version when they arrived. also glass is somewhat old and desperately needing replaced which was done since. ill take some better pics later on when ive some time to show CGs etc.
  2. nice addition, id not seen those pages before. the one with the top view of the crowns is excellent. didnt realise they had different ball sizes relating to material of construction
  3. it is a gen so it may be that we just send it into them though its right on the cusp of being an issue as its 1971. i try to keep things away from RSC as much as possible, especially when theres tritum dials etc involved hence the reason for asking. ill just see what the options are by getting in touch with them
  4. they offer cases just like any other part though even harder to get id imagine. theyve also stopped pretty much allowing independents to get parts too though this is being challenged legally and ive heard that some can still manage though cannot verify. apparently they cases come complete and watertight ie with glass, back and crown tube so its not going to be cheap as a replacement i wouldnt have thought.
  5. haha, that gave me a good old laugh. glad to hear that you are more than willing to take the beer only. no probs ref the drawings, glad they are of interest. i thought taps were stepped 0.25mm too. i had no joy finding an 0.3mm tap but did get an 0.35mm one in 3mm!!!!!! that pretty much throws out any logic at all though apparently its whats knows as fine thread amongst machinests (though im not one so it could be BS) im hoping that like you found with an 0.25mm pitch, its negligable difference and works well.
  6. as per topic, just wondering if anyone has an contacts that can help ordering a part for me from rolex. anyone know anyone with an account or access to get parts. if so let me know and i can see if you can help. its a replacement oyster case, bare for a 5513 that took a nasty ding at the weekend and now has a gouge out of it. rolex offer replacement cases with 4,4xx,xxx serials according to my info and id like to try and look into this. ofcourse if you have access to used bare case that would do too dont need any ancilliary bits like, bezel, crown tube, crystal ring etc. these can all be reused. just the bare case with/without back
  7. The Zigmeister, if you were here right now i could kiss you,, though perhaps buy a you a beer may be better lol. ive been trying to find a watch source in the UK for what seems like an age and could never find the name of cousins. just ordered a whole load of parts from them already lol.
  8. thanks The Zigmeister, yeah im thinking that its worth the investment. had a look at ofrei however couldnt seem to see the correct tap. are the listings all by thread pitch and somehow this translates by default to a certain diameter by definition? im in the UK so im not sure ofrei is a viable source either. minimum orders and shipping kill most things though saying that. ive wanted to buy so much stuff over the last few months that ive ended up spending alot of time trying to source here in the UK when with hindsight i could have collected and got all at once. i guess i have a firefighting approach to watch tools and parts, in that when i need them its because ive hit a problem or something has broken rather than being prepared i take your point ref the generic crowns and tubes, they certainly seem softer than gen ones and the standard fare on the reps even worse. this was a generic crown tube for a trial and TBH im glad i only got the one
  9. thanks guys, ubi, its close enough that you can get it to screw in but, atleast in this case it rounded the thread ends on the tube pretty seriously though it did hold fine etc. while once a crown tube is in, the only reason to remove is to replace so this rounding wouldnt really be an issue it isnt the way i usually like to work The Zigmeister, thanks for clearing that up, it doesnt mention running through the tap in the thread linked. i think ill get after buying one for future jobs. i was unsure whether it would just subtly adjust pitch and clean out our whether it would totally round out and leave a ruined case
  10. thanks The Zigmeister, id already looked at the threads but was somewhat unsure what the best approach was with the hole size being the same but the pitch being different. will running a tap through not just end up with a totally stripped case? i forcibly screwed the crown tube in and used loctite to hold and got it to work though the threads on the crown tube were rounded off in the process of going into the case. id be keen to think around better solutions for the next time i do it, if theres any suggestions or retapping will work ill just pull it out and stick in a new tube.
  11. was in the process of fitting a gen crown tube to an MBW submariner however the tube isnt for screwing into the hole at the moment. the hole seems to be the correct 3mm however it seems like the thread pitch isnt the required 0.3mm and it might be this thats causing the problems. has anyone any solutions regarding correcting the pitch, is it even possible or whats a workaround? anyone got a line on where to get 3mm x 0.3mm pitched taps. also FYI, ive got drawings for the various rolex crowns and the 7030 and 7020 are both definately 3mm x 0.3mm and not 0.25mm
  12. as per title, ive a watch that occasionally when unscrewing the crown to wind position causes the hands to move when it comes off the threads even though its not in the setting position. instinct is telling me that there must be something causing a pull on the stem enough to cause the hands to grab. is this correct and if so what the common cause. a stem cut too short? it certainly feels like it should be slightly longer as i dont seem to have any real spring action with the crown unscrewed.
  13. anyone know a seller with the vintage case styled 47mm watch and russian moljita movement like andrews pvin001 http://www.trustytime.com/index.php?main_p...;products_id=46 id like to add one of these to my collection with a view to perhaps using as a project base but andrew doesnt have them anymore. if anyones got one for sale or can point me in the right direction that would be great.
  14. thanks for that. i didnt think i was missing anything ref getting it out the back (or my failure to do so). anyone got any hints as to how to remove it from the front. will i need a press or does the bezel just unscrew and then the glass slips out easily? what do you use to get a grip on the bezel itself without marking it
  15. started to do a canon upgrade on my pam127 today and all went smoothly until i went to lift the movement out of the rear of the case and well......it wouldnt come out. its rotates freely but cannot be removed. tried turning a full 360 incase there was an opening/key of some sort but no joy so had to put it all together. do these need to come out the front? surely not. has anyone got any info
  16. looks like a recessed cannon pinion to me in the first pic with the panerai. actually the more acute the angle, the more obvious the recessed cannon issue shows up and this is really jumping out. all this is my opinion of course
  17. thanks for the replies guys. i did see them on ebay but the dimensions dont look correct when compared to my gen hands. this was my fear with getting aftermarket ones and makes me somewhat wary. its a pity as the price is definately very good ill have a look at classic watch parts and see what they have, hopefully its not the same.
  18. that not only absolutely gorgeous but a really great watch to have in any collection. ive yet to see one nicer......or infact a real one. great job
  19. just wondering if anyone knows a good source for replacement submariner hands for the rolex caliber 1570 or has access to order parts from rolex. anyone got anythoughts or can put me in touch
  20. id like to go onto the list for any future ones
  21. yep, early triplock crown before they introduced the proper triplock that added the rubber o-ring onto the crown tube. i picked an old one up for almost nothing attached to a stem for my caliber 1570 while im waiting on a replacement stem to refit. i was thinking of removing the foil on this one though as i really like it but its gold. id be keen to see if it polishes up or not. im going to suspect it wont do too well and that was the reason for the overlay however i hope it does and i can make mine silver and keep it. give it a go and post back please
  22. ive always considered putting the older style crown and tube back onto my 5512 as its had the newer style fitted at some point. this is however a rolex service swap out and general consensus is that the benefits from using the better designed newer style outweigh having the older style. i know where your coming from though. they look nice. i always though a trial with a datejust or similar 6mm twinlock crown might be worth a try if i got a rep together to work on. they are really easy to get an similar in design and look
