  1. Also, it would be awesome if you had a 5512 "SUBMARINER-first" dial made. Like the one on Steeve McQueen's watch. No one else makes it except for NDT, and even then it's quite pricey.
  2. In light of this new exciting development, I have a few suggestions to make that will make a lot of us happy and that will make you a lot of money. Sounds cheesy I know, but hear me out. 1) Have them made looking new and superlumed by default. Yes, this means white indices. Why? -I suspect people like that "fresh & clean" look, even for a vintage (this includes me, of course) -It's much easier to remove the lume if you don't like it, than having a dial relumed. And even then, it's hard for modders. -It's also much easier to vintagize a dial if you like patina than the other way around 2) Have most of them made with ETA feet. (I assure you most of us do not go with gen movements when building a franken) 3) Include matching superlumed hands with them. This makes life a lot easier. Even if this translates to a hike in prices, I feel most members, myself included, would be more than willing to pay this premium if the dials had the features outlined above. Thanks for your time!
  3. Lake Taal! ...Do I get a prize?
  4. The modder is CLS, who can be found on the other forums. He was professional throughout, and I'm guessing he is just swamped right now. We're all human and we all make mistakes. I just happened to be at the short end of that one! Ha.
  5. It gets worse, folks. I tried setting the time on it and was happily doing so until... It just came off. Didn't force it or anything. What the hell. I told the guy to make sure everything was in good working order before sending it out. So much for that.
  6. Don't you just hate it when this happens? I just got this back from one of the modders. I won't say who because he's such a nice guy I don't want to disparage his name. Yes folks, I don't know if this is nitpicking. But the dial is off by a degree, leaning down towards the 3 o'clock side. I wish it was photographic distortion, but it's pretty clear in real life too. Funny story: even my wife, who at first tried to convince me it was straight so that I wouldn't obsess about watches again, had to agree with me because it's pretty clear. Ach. If you can't tell, look at how the bezel, aligned to the dial, isn't aligned to the case. This watch has been sent back to the modder once already (long story), and this whole thing started in Late February. So before you ask, I don't think I'll be sending it back one more time. I guess I'll just have to look for a local guy. Just wanted to air out my rant. Happy Sunday y'all.
  7. Like the ones shown here: Anyone have an idea? Thanks
  8. Well, if you think about it this whole Pam thing got popular thanks to Sly Stallone. So if that is a person's idea of masculine, then by all means. I for one am in the camp of "wear whatever you want". If people judge you for the watch you wear, they are the ones in the wrong, not you.
  9. UPDATE! I just got an e-mail from the watchmaker working on my 1680. Looks like it's done! Yay!
  10. My story: I (only) have two reps: a 1680 and a DW daytona. For the daytona: In January, I tried regulating it and ended up messing up the keyless works. I sent it to a local watch repair guy to fix and service the movement. This took 3 weeks. I got it back, and he told me that the minute-counter wheel was not working because of a "bad wheel." What he didn't tell me was that he broke the wheel and glued the hand on the dial. Oh well, c'est la vie. I send it to a trusted watchsmith (on another forum). It takes a month to get to my watch. Fair enough. When he finally gets to it, he tells me I'm going to need a new movement for the needed part, and likely a new dial, since the glue ruined the original one. Well, crap. At this point it's been 7 weeks. I give up, and tell him to keep the parts. He tells me that if I have any other work, send it in and he'll work on it right away since I waited my turn (a whole month). Lo and behold, a week later I find a donor watch. I ask the watchmaker if he still has my old parts. No response, until the day after the donor watch is sold. Luckily, a few days after I find another one up for sale. I jump on it and had it sent straight to the watchmaker's address. It got there 10 days ago, and was picked up 3 days later. I was told on Thursday that he would start putting things together on Friday or Saturday. Today there are no updates. No idea if my watch is even being worked on at this point. ********************************************************************************** The 1680: EDIT: JUST GOT AN E-MAIL SAYING IT WAS DONE! YAY! Sometime in February I decide to have my 1680 from Josh relumed. I didn't like the yellowy patina color so I asked another watchmaker (on yet another forum) to see if it could be relumed to white. Watchmaker says it's possible, so I send it out. A week later I see an MBW 1680 on sale at a good price, so I jump on it. I tell the watchmaker not to work on the Josh and to work on the MBW instead, which I send overnight. With this one, it only took a bit more than two weeks for the watchmaker to get started on it. Pretty good! The watchmaker has excellent communication and notifies me of everything that's going on and what he has to do. There was apparently a significant amount of casework to be done, and fitment issues to be resolved. In any case, after 9 days he tells me it's done. 27 days all in all, not bad! I'm very eager at this point and send him the payment. He sends me back a picture. The watch is in the wrong case. He put everything in the Josh case. No wonder there were all these adjustments! Also, the lume did not look very white at all. I let the watchmaker know. A true gentleman, he offers to correct it right away. The day after I get a message with a picture of the dial. The lume is white, but the dial was scratched while he was working on it, right where it says ROLEX. Oh no! Ever the gentleman, the watchmaker orders an Ingod dial, at his expense. A week later it arrives. It has no lume, so the watchmaker asks me if I want it lumed. I say yes, and offer to pay for the reluming. Last Tuesday, the reluming was complete. But now there is apparently an issue with the quickset date. I e-mailed the watchmaker on the weekend to see if it was resolved. He said he was working on it and hoped to have everything resolved by the end of the weekend. EDIT: JUST GOT AN E-MAIL SAYING IT WAS DONE! YAY! ******************************************************** I realize this is NOWHERE near the worst of horror stories. In fact, I think I'm in a pretty good spot. I know patience is the name of the game. But as of now, I'm out $900+ with nothing to show for it. You know, the whole stop and go, two steps forward one step back nature of the thing is just getting a little tiring. I'm so close, yet so far. It's so frustrating. Thanks for listening, and yes, I will continue to be patient.
  11. Yeah, I'd be willing to bet that these are the same cheapie subs that PT offers. And I doubt that they have gen bezel construction like his other versions.
  12. Did a search and couldn't find anything. I know I need new endlinks, but what about the bracelet itself? I have a Josh/Cartel 93150, the one that came with his $118 sub. Will that do the trick?
  13. ^Dude, that's Josh's case.
  14. Hey folks, I got an MBW 1680 from another member here, in the old POLEX 5513 case. 2846 heart. The problem is, when I pull out the crown, it won't "catch" in the time setting position. The member said in the listing that a new stem was needed. But I hear I might need a new crown instead? Please help!
  15. Wait. I just got an MBW 5513 from iRolexU. Like he said it had this problem. In the listing he said it was a problem with the stem. So the solution to this is to replace the crown? (But it's gen...augh.)
  16. Oh I looked but I didn't find anything with the 3-6-9 layout.
