  1. Of course, I would never wear a flamboyant watch like the YM2 (or the original YM), but it is definitely the kind of thing I might hide in the back of my watch box & take out on cold, winter nights to goggle (as opposed to google) at on occasion.

You know, that's pretty how I feel about the YMI. I don't wear it much in public, but the rep is very accurate and nice. I love to have it in my collection.

YM is actually much nicer in person. I don't know why, but it's very difficult to show in pictures. Even the technically good shots I've managed to take, somehow don't "capture" the looks of this watch.

YMII is probably quite an achievement horologically, but I think it's just plain ugly. But who knows, maybe it's nicer in person, too.

  2. I don't dislike this watch, as I always like colorful watches. But somehow all these sports/toolwatches with "smooth" polished bezels look a bit old fashioned today.

It's kinda ironic, people always complain that Rolex doesn't change, but when they change they don't like it, either. I think the new GMT Master II is a nice watch, but somehow it lost all the originality and feel of the original. It's a good looking sports watch, but it doesn't have any "spirit" anymore, just imho.

They didn't touch the white Explorer II yet, but I'm afraid they'll ruin it too. It shouldn't be touched, it's perfect.

But then again, this is probably how people felt when the El Primero Daytona was introduced, too.

  3. You found a SEL version. There are brand new 16610's (well at least dated from 2006) with flat S. It's definitely accurate.

It's the similar variation as SWISS, SWISS ' MADE & SWISSMADE at 6'o'clock, and those different II's on GMT's. Absolutely no logic there.

  4. I wouldn't buy these.

The "Christmas beginner edition" model is actually the correct one. Same watch I reviewed, but it has a horrible datefont. Ironically, it's hands down the most accurate YM in his collection... including those ETA reps that cost 300$ +. I don't know why they have installed that kind of font in it, which (imho) ruins the watch. The factory probably just ran out of stock of the good datewheels?

Andrew's "YM Newbie" is a bad replica (sorry Andrew). It has no rehaut thickness and datewheel/cyclops positioned too right + many other flaws. Stay away from those.

Get one from Narikaa (Asian) or bklm1234 (ETA). They both sell the correct version (with good datewheel). $78 is a great deal for this Xmas edition though. It's a great rep that has just a bad datefont. Maybe you could live with it?

Hope this helps, and happy hunting.

  5. How classy watch, clothes or car someone has doesn't mean SQUAT to me.

Success in life has nothing to do with money, career or things that we can buy.

I wish more people realized this, and stopped wasting their lives. Cars, watches and all that stuff are just harmless fun... they're not so important. And besides... you can't buy charisma.

  6. Update: Andrew said that he didn't sell a single piece of this watch, and it has already been taken down from his site. Ok move in my book.

He said that he was relying on the factory description.

Anyone can PM the other dealers who sell this piece yourself (King and Paul), point them to this thread and ask them to do the same. I'm getting some sleep now.
