Bought 2 bezel aftermarket inserts from Ebay just for fun. The inserts need to be filed thinner for perfect fit (which is easy with sandpaper). The color is perfect (for the Pepsi insert). Turqoise/blue and red are spot on (and not too dark & matte like on most aftermarket inserts). The dot between 8 and 10 is perfect too.

If you're looking for one for your Master this seller is highly recommended. Just mention what color you're after.
I'll take pictures later.

The first thing that striked me as "gen" was the correct red SUBMARINER font on the dial. I have never seen aftermarket or rep dial like that. The text and font is significantly smaller than on the rep 1680 (red).
-
Definitely genuine... or the best and probably the most expensive modding job I've seen.
The bracelet link edges don't necessarily have to be polished. They were brushed on the older models of the TT Sub.
-
You of course read THIS before you posted this question, right?
-
Does the bezel have to be aligned a certain way or something?
Yes. The bezel should sit the "sharp edges" pointing to 12,3, 6 and 9. You have to remove the insert and reglue it to correct position. This was mentioned in the review.

when i saw them in sf and berkley in 1975 and 1976 they were a hair band...
of course i had much more hair then too
Okay, that kinda makes sense.
But the terminology "hair band" changed a bit in the eighties and nineties, remember?
-
'cause you are too busy writing reviews and listening to some obscure hair band
Rush a "hair band"? WTF?! You probably mix them up with Bon Jovi.

This is a frankensub with gen insert, gen dial and CG's reworked to perfection and drilled lugs.
Right... and look at your nose now Pinocchio!!!
PS: Good job Pug for calling out this troll. Why do I always miss all the fun threads?

Good old Speedy...

Typical. I also get tons of PM's. I try to reply to the most polite ones... and of course to forum friends - and people who have been around longer. But many noobs would get answers to their questions much faster if they just posted them to the forum. There are lots of people who know as much as I (or more) about reps. I'm not any kind of Oracle because I've done a few writeups. I try to study the watch and rep before I buy it myself, why can't others do the same? It's great fun... and fascinating part of this hobby. We have new great brand specific subforums and lots of guides and reviews that are easily accessible. I think every single rep (that's not very rare and obscure model) have been reviewed or discussed.
At some point I considered shutting off my PM's altogether, because I don't want to give impression that I'm an arrogant ass (when I ignore someone's PM). I really hate ignoring anyone, but I simply don't have time.
Sometimes I have experienced the same as you guys... I have posted many detailed replies which have taken a lot of time... but then you don't even get a simple "thank you" for an answer. I also wonder why people ask so many Omega and Breitling related questions because I try to keep these guides constantly updated to eliminate the need to ask anything. It's all there... and if it's not there why can't these people just ask the question in that particular thread? Why me? Then you'd have 2000 potential people who could answer it, instead of one... and the guide could probably improve that way... and benefit everyone.
And questions like "Do you think xxx's Sub is better than xx's?" aren't very inspiring. Or: "What do you think about Joe Blow's SMP?" No link, no description of the exact model, no picture, no nothing. Should I remember every single rep model that every single dealer have in stock? Or should I search and dig up the model from dealer xxx's website to give M'Lord the information he needs (preferably asap)?
Seriously... I enjoy discussing watches with everyone. But I'd rather do it in the public forum. PM's from unknown people with zero or very few posts are a bit stressing, because it often feels like a burden to reply just something. Most of these are good people I'm sure... but I don't get paid for being everyone's personal watch finder. I try to relax here... to escape from work and stress... not to do overtime work.

Very nice. I like Dave Matthews.
/Tim
Me too. No... I love their live shows, I have plenty of bootlegs. But for some reason their slow songs like this one don't do it for me.
Get: Live in Chicago, Listener Supported and The Central Park Concert (cd and dvd). All great.

Maybe Klink was jealous because Pug had bigger post count... and deleted him.
Wonder why the first bannings took place back then... maybe it was a similar situation... admin on a weird "power trip"?

@kanerich: Great article (although a bit biased), thanks for the link. I agree that this guy John Holmbrook is a great writer, despite being a hardcore Rolex fanboy. And his "Daytona vs. Broad Arrow" comparison is great. I borrowed his review style when I did the rep TAG vs. Omega comparison. I think it's very good idea to put "rivals" like this against eachother.
PS: Thanks to your link I went to the gen watch forums for the first time in ages...and found this. Apparently not all people liked his biased review:

Wow Puggy...this was the second time your account was deleted on the RWI. So I guess you can consider yourself "double banned".
PS: Good that all sorted out nicely. Life is good, eh?

No new toys, unfortunately. Wore this on Friday:
But will change to this for Saturday (Omegas Omegas...):

Your pics are outstanding as well... I especially love the second shot. Lots of warmth in that one.
Beautiful watch, my favourite Rolex hands down. And red/black is always a classy choice! Enjoy!!!

I linked this review to my Omega Guide.
Once again... great work Andreww!!
-
by-tor - did you get yours serviced?
Nope. It's been working flawlessly since July. Very accurate, no problems at all.
However I'm planning to service it eventually after a few years...
-
Congrats Sox... great purchase!!!
PS: The second pic you took is quite nice... as you said this is a difficult watch to capture properly.
-
I have read all your Omega reviews and for the life of me don't know why I never read your movement reviews.
Maybe because I have never written a movement review? I have no skills to do those... I'm just a hobbyist. Ziggy takes care of all the complicated stuff.
-
Don't get a "gold" rep. You'll only regret it later. I had a friend who purchased that one and the "feel" of the watch was very disappointing.
If you want a good rep buy this one instead (or the Pepsi model):

You can also read THIS old review. It's still valid information.

Once again, here's THE link that everyone should always post (when responding to noobs' queries about Daytona). Why bother explaining it again and again... when it has already been explained (by the Man himself)?

@frontin: That's the exact same model that I briefly owned, too. Mine was originally from River. Still the best TT Sub there is... that SEL/last link thing is just a bummer though...
So you're saying that the gold has been keeping up nicely after 2 years? Are you wearing the watch regularly? Hmm... maybe I shouldn't have sold mine...
Nice watch.

I must admit- I don't find myself browsing dealer's folders as much as I used to... In fact, I don't think I've purchased an actual rep in over 8 months now and I find myself buying fewer and fewer parts these days as well. I still love watches... But I've been feeling less than motivated/interested these days.
Maybe it's time to buy something new?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you already have all the watches that you ever wanted. I can say the same thing... well almost anyway. For me the rep collecting was all about getting the watches I admire the most... not to build a huge collection.
People can rarely respect what they already have. We always want more, better, cheaper, etc. I try to enjoy my watches every day... new and old.
I've been thinking about getting one expensive genuine, too... but I'm not sure I'd respect (or wear) it enough. Yeah, there's a quality difference. But with mass produced brands like Omega, Rolex, Breitling the difference in "feel" is not as dramatic as some people want you to believe. When you move to real high end territory it becomes more apparent of course.
I find it hilarious when some guys get their first genuine and all of a sudden they start looking reps down their noses... it almost looks like they have discovered Jesus or something... quite pathetic, really. We all know the gens are better, they have QC, but they also have the 10x or 20x price tags... go to the gen forums if you want to be an elitist WIS... most of us here still enjoy our reps. We know the facts and we don't want to hear all that same blahblah about gen vs. rep quality over and over again. My father is a gen collector and I see his watches all the time. And based on what I've seen I'm not willing to pay 4K for just another nice watch. I'll eventually get his Rolexes anyway.
I find reps more fascinating for some perverse reason... probably the main reason is this community being so cool. Lots of good friendships. I have also been extremely lucky with the reps. I don't recall ever having any kind of problem with the watches I've owned (except one movement problem with a MBW watch... which was later fixed). That's why I find it amazing that some people constantly have technical problems with their reps. I wonder how many of these problems arise because these people buy their reps from dropshippers... or think they're watchsmiths and perform all kinds of hardcore operations on them?
I'd like to see this community taking a one or two steps into "underground" direction now. I wish we could remove the forums from the Google somehow... but that's for another discussion.
@Andreww: I don't think there's interest in "our own watch brand". You can get fairly good genuines for around $250 already. It would just turn out to be another "RWG collaboration watch", remember?
Outstanding Rolex Gmt Inserts From Ebay
in The Rolex Area
Posted
I got a verification of the shipment, yes. No communication at all... I just clicked and bought them... and mentioned the color in the subject.
This insert is the best aftermarket one I've seen. Most of them have the dot between 10 and 8 placed too low... see my watch:
Since this picture I bought another one with better dot placement...but paid $50 for it. This is just as good quality for $8.
