Franken MBW 1665 - Palpatine, RepAustria, ...
watchfreund replied to watchfreund's topic in The Rolex Area
There is no picture? Would love to see yours. Where did you buy your pearls? Before I go slow beat I might consider a 1570/5/... Have not decided yet. If the DW would not be aligned I would already search for GEN movement and DW. But Ubis DW is so perfect. What did you pay for the 93150 and the 585? Where did you buy them? -

Thanks, Daniel. I will make some better pictures. The Yuki will cost me rough 120 shipped. If its worth it I will do it. I mean that's what our hobby is about: modding/doing stuff. What is your opinion about the inserts? Any idea or further good source? Observing VRF already. -

OK, so I did a lot of reading the last nights. Asked Freddy some more questions (Sorry - I know you are busy) and here is my rough plan. Looking forward to your feedback. Before I start. Here is the old sales thread of the watch I have: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/149818-sold-my-precioussssfranken-mbw-1665-drsd/?hl=+1665 Step 1: found a GEN 93150 bracelet I am about to order. Now I am just searching for some GEN 585 endlinks. Found some on Ebay (http://www.ebay.de/itm/ROLEX-ENDLINKS-SEADWELLER-1665-REF-585-/261256847802?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd41f21ba) and also dropped the http://www.chrono-shop.net/ an email. If anybody nows somebody who might sell let me know please. Step 2: find a GEN bezel insert plus tritium pearl (not to yellow) I like. It should be a bit faded and used but not to much. I very much like Freddys or this one (http://luxurytyme.com/en/rolex-related-articles/restoration-of-a-rolex-double-red-sea-dweller-1665/). Again if someone knows someone who might sell let me know. Bezel inserts I assume at the moment: http://www.chrono-shop.net/en/inserts-rolex-/1609-incredible-fat-front-rolex-submariner-faded-black-bezel-insert-5513-1680-5512-1665-tritium-pearl.html (love the faded look. pearl looks good too. but it is broken at 12 and 30) http://www.chrono-shop.net/en/inserts-rolex-/2620-vintage-rolex-submariner-vintage-faded-insert-5513-5512-fat-front-.html (nice one. but no tritium pearl. that would be an additional 120 Euro) http://www.chrono-shop.net/en/inserts-rolex-/905-rolex-submariner-insert-5513-5512-1680-tritium-.html (I like the look!! just the pear is not tritium) PS: these shall be the first two steps. I think the watch is already very good and has some nice modding history here. I will open it and make some better pictures to take a look at HeV, Freddy. -

Thank you. Yes, it is a legendary piece with lots of history. Proud to have it and want to improve it a bit now. So how much should I spend on the GEN 93150 + 580 links. Is a rough 800 Euros a fair price if it is in a good condition? Or is it not necessary to go GEN? Freddy, thanks for joining in. Of course Woof as well. The HEV was the last I was thinking about. Is it a tell? Since it is also waterproof now with the HeV "trompe l'oeil" mod (zero risk leak). Most important were for me the 93150 + a faded GEN insert with tritium pearl? No? @all: what do you say about the dial? How good is it? I can find any information on the CWP (http://www.classicwatchparts.com/) dials? -
Hi, so I was able to buy this awesome and legendary DRSD 1665 in this forum which went through legendary hands like Palpatine and RepAustria. Even UBI contributed with his vintage date wheel. Now this is a beauty already but there are some things I would like to change and I need your advice and/or opinion about it. But first the specs at the moment: - Old skool MBW case (rounded/buffed/vintagised) - ETA 2836 (serviced end of 2012) - PALPATINE drilled lugs to accept gen springbars - PALPATINE modelized crown guards - GEN crown and tube - GEN springbars - GEN bracelet clasp - GEN bezel insert - GEN tropic 39 superdome - YUKI pearl - MY(CWP) dial - Colour matched hands - UBIQUITOUS vintage datewheel, perfect alignment - HeV "trompe l'oeil" mod (zero risk leak) - REPAUSTRIA Stamp caseback gen-look - MARYS bracelet I do not like the feeling of the Marys 7836 bracelet. Though it already has the GEN claps. Many GEN owners upgrade their 1665 with the 93150 bracelet and ad the 580 end links. Thats what I want to do too. GEN bracelets will cost me around 800 Euro with the two 580 links. Is there any alternative route? What do you guys like Freddy or Ubi recommend? I need a used look insert with pearl. Searched for some time and did not find anything which satisfies me. I totally love that look here: http://i1.wp.com/luxurytyme.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/after1.jpg Any hints or ideas? Does it have to be GEN? PMWF and Clark have been rated very good here in the forum. I could buy a GEN tritium dot at the chrono shop? Small thing: the hands do not do it for me. The dial dots have a white look and the hands a more yellow. Not a big problem. Some old 1665 look that way. What options do I have for the hands? BTW: I can find lots of information und the MY CWP dial. How good is it? Thanks!!!!! Here are two pictures. Looking forward to your feedback.

Yeah and if you do not do that after 3 days but directly start with this attitude IT WORKS!

DW David Wong 6263 Daytona with Mystery Movement - SUMMARY
watchfreund replied to watchfreund's topic in The Rolex Area
Yes it is! Why would you not change anything on it? I think it could use a GEN crystal and GEN crown. Not sure about the dial yet. Thanks Ubi. Are there any how tos or guides to show the swap to the V23? I bought the 6263 with the MM from Donerix - I am excited. Ubi just said the Val72 wont fit? -
DW David Wong 6263 Daytona with Mystery Movement - SUMMARY
watchfreund replied to watchfreund's topic in The Rolex Area
Edited! This was posted way to early. Now I have everything in there I found out the last days and weeks. Looking forward to your feedback. - One missing part would be than the dial and/or hands. I found out that they are very expensive. And I do not even know if they fit? So: what would be the best and closest to GEN dial that can be mounted straight on the mystery movement. I think only black with white chrono dials and white with black chrono dials would be correct? What is a good source? Is there a comparison? - Also I need more information about the mystery movement. I want to sum this up here too. Any sources? Anybody exchanged it to a GEN VAL23? Thanks for reading and your help -
Dear all, I got my hands on one of the famous DW 6263 with the following specs: - DW David Wong base watch - Asymmetrical pusher layout - DW mystery movement (val23 clone?) - Clark crystal - Lightly aged case - Reamed lug holes - GEN 78350 bracelet Before someone sreams read first: Now I have already read a lot about this watch. But still do not know everything and need your help in some points. Also the search function is recently not working. Since the one day down time of the forum it seems like there is no search index. Maybe you have to push the rebuild button in the AdminCP? In the meantime I searched the forum with google. Goal: a short summary What I found with Google was not a real collection at some point only about the 6263 DW with the MM. So I will try to make this one a collection and always update this first post with your answer/experiences and of course mine. 1) The DW case David Wong offered different movement versions. What I read so far is that all cases are always the same (talking about asymmetrical pushers). There are no differences. Also the hight is always the same. If DW used an automatic movement he took away the rotor so the hight is always the same. Compared to the GEN the DW case is very well. The user lhooq made a very unique comparison of the DW case in the forum (http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/135463-dw-6263-vs-gen-daytona-photo-comparison-updated-731). Difference to the GEN are: - slightly higher crown and pusher positions on the gen - thinner mid-section than at the gen - the lug tips on the gen are wider (DW is too thick on the crown side and too thin on the right) - gen's black bezel insert is convex / DWs black bezel insert is not - wrong fonts and spacing on the DW black bezel insert Of course I will post pictures as soon as I have my watch in my hand. At the moment I do not know from which year it is or which batch. So far I know that there were some very good dials and some with some bad. Right? The case is always the same and very close to GEN though there were 3 generations? 2) The DW bracelet The user wiesn089 did an awesome comparison of all available options out there (http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/121576-78350-pictorial-6263-daytona-bracelet-options/). To make it simple: nothing beats the GEN 78350. The DW feels uncomfortably and the clasp won't close properly. In detail: - middle-links are not flexible - coronet is comically wrong and ugly - clasp doesn't close properly You can either get at Yuki but for some more dollars you get GEN with no flaws at all. I would go GEN. 3) The DW dial and hands - 4) The Mystery Movement - 5) Extended part list / Bringing it closer to the GEN At the end I and I assume the other readers want to get as close to GEN as possible - but in a good price range (no phong case or GEN movement). Here I want to sum up what can be done. If you have any experience please let us know. - The old 6263 had a domed crystal. Only serviced 6263 will have a beveled crystal. You can mount a Clark crystal but you need to make it fit to the DW bezel. But the base of the Clark crystal's dome is at a higher level than the GEN crystal. The Sternkreuz seems to be the more GEN like version. User lhooq made a very good comparison here (http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/112613-quick-photo-comparison-vintage-daytona-crystals/). The correct GEN crystal will be the Tropic 25-21. - Crown and tube should be exchanged to GEN as far is I found out. In terms of quality and reliability. The right part numbers for the crown and tube are 4-7030 & 24-703 (this equels a serviced 6263). First version had a 6mm Twinlock crown (24-600) and later the regular 7mm Triplock (24-700). - As mentioned above the DW bracelet can and should be exchanged to the GEN 78350 bracelet. - As mentioned above the DW black bezel insert is not convex as the GEN and typo and spacing is wrong. It can be improved by using an aftermarket bezel which fits just perfect. GEN bezels are over 1000 Dollar. You can see a very good comparison of two aftermarket bezels to DW here (http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/148589-6263-aftermarket-bezels-compared/). Recommended is the aftermarket bezel from an Ebay seller called WatchNY. His auction can be found here (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Vintage-Rolex-Daytona-Replacement-Bezel-6241-6263-Aftermarket-/280827710997?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4162a2ce15&clk_rvr_id=491792608716). Many users wrote that he will accept an offer for 180 Dollar.

Best REP: Tag Heuer Calibre 16 Automatik Chronograph 41mm
watchfreund replied to watchfreund's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
The cv2014 is really nice! Like it too. It has less flaws? The BA0794 is an awesome price for sure. But I want it on the rubber strap. Found it there too for 280 Dollar. Do you have more details on putting the GEN ETA in the REP case? What else has to be done so that it is closer to GEN. Where do you get the GEN crown and pushers? THANKS A LOT!!! -

watchfreund replied to watchfreund's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
Thanks for the details! I invested some more time in research in other forums. Your list is 100% correct. The bezel numbers seem to be corrected. Further more the movement has blue screws and the GEN silver. But I might swap a GEN movement. Also regarding the AR coating: I would just mod this. BUT these flaws are to much in my opinion: Way to thick subdial circles / Every guy with a GEN could spot these The wordings on the dial are not bright enough / They look grey / some times it is not bold where it should be What do you guys say. I think it is to much off and also you cant source a GEN dial. At least I cant... Thanks -
Nice one!!

Nice one! Did you build it? -
Thank you!!

Greener... OK. So I will definitely have to open the pearl and relume it. Than put the sapphire on again. Looking forward to your lume shoot.
-
How about the lume of the new pearl? Any chance to post a lume shoot? How does the lume of the pearl look and behave compared to the relumed stuff from BK? Is it as bright? Does ist last as long?
-
Oh I understand. Thanks. Besides I do not know why they do not sell these.
