!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I cannot believe I have a cal. 618 IN MY HAND!!!!!!! Beautiful, unmarked and in pristine condition!
The watchsmiths I deal with are men with 40 to 50 years in experience dealing with cortebért mvmts and never have seen this one. It even has a swan neck regulator.... oh and 17 rubis!
Cheers,
marco

Another option would be to try to make a contemprary 8-day pam...can't remember the #, but you which one I'm talkng about--the one in the fiddy case, which I (briefly) considerd doing the first time I saw an Angelus powered travel alarm.
Although you can find the travel alarm versions of that movement in major metro area flea markets (I've seen about 5 in the DC area) for $150 or so, according to my watchsmith, it'll cost you well over a $1500 in parts (vintage and custom made) and labor to make the movement function and look like the one used in the 8 day "fiddy." Pug's $2000 figure might even be a little low for a movement that has already been modified and serviced...if you can even find one. Then you'd have to have the 8-day thing @ 3:00 laser engraved onto the the fiddy dial, and have a back custom CNCed and engraved.
Since the gens are, what, 20k the 3k this project would cost might be worth it if you are PAM obsessed and have pockts a little deeper than mine....
You made a clear picture of the reasons that make me stick with the regular Cortebért cal. 616 and run away from the Angelus...

You know we have the same passion and the same name?...
and both our born languages derive from latin!

Now this is becomming more like a cook book than a watch forum :-) , but could you mention which proportions you are using when you make that mix you put on the dial and hands?
I will try to do something similar within a near future and since I only have one dial, I get no second chance.
Thanks
If my memory doesnt fail me I think I PMd you a recipe some time ago...
-
So it is too big for our projects?
Thanks tourbi
Those mvmts wont do.
Tourby is right and you should stick to 16 lignes mvmts like cal. 616, 618 or 620.
Cheers,
Marco

Hey K,
Nice work you did there! Its a beautiful watch.

Yes the dial should be pretty tasty by now
Smokers hate chewing tobacco so hopefully you're safe
Thanks for the tip about varnish
forgot about that, got some spare varnish I can use from a superlumina package
The dial soaks up most of the solution, but I'll do it just to be safe, and it will get a bit more glossy surface, great!
The cherry on top of our "cakes" will be thick plexis correctly produced but we will talk about that later on....
-
you used more sugar on dial numbers which in my opinion looks better
Try to use (thewatchboys) steel wool to slightly roughen the dial surface and smear some some chewed tobacco (really great stuff
)
on dials and hands and it should be identical (if not a lot better)
Great! this looks like Chef's talk! Special dial "confit"...
In the meantime do you have an alternative to tobacco? I quitted the smokes 8 months ago and I can not have proximity to that stuff...
BTW do not forget to seal the "sugared" numeral cutouts with a coat of satin varnish being careful not to stain the dial surface with it!
Cheers,
Marco

Marco, most of these vintageing techniques are from your excellent post
:
I just added some chemicals and distressing
Hey Falco, thanks for the compliment! I am flattered
but technique is one thing and art is other.
I still think your work on vintageizing the dial and hands is way better than mine and I would really appreciate your help.
I am now working on something that will be very useful for all of us vintage lovers but I will only unveil it later on when I am positively sure of its production conditions.
Cheers,
Marco
-
Hi Falco,
Congratulations. I am totally impressed with your work!
It makes my work on my 6152/1 look like garbage...
This is certainly an abuse
but would you help doing me a dial and a pair of hands for a future project I have in mind?
Cheers,
Marco

Now that everything had calmed down...
We were informed this morning that our office won a major Urban Planning competition on a french speaking country and I desperatelly need to un-rust my french...
so Tourby, can I have the contact of your french teacher?

look my new beauty
you ever saw a 60- 70years old movement in this condition?
Hey Tourby...
Is that the one I am thinking of?
-
624 is a great movement... 16 lignes of corse... and the 17 jewels version like rolex 618 (cortebert 616, 618 and 620 are 15 jewels version). It is familiar with 616, 618, 620... but 624 is a higher decorated version and younger as all.
You never cease to amaze me my friend!
-
Congratulations Adeeos!
A cal. 624.... I wonder if it´s a 16 lignes?
I am more used to cal. 616 and now I think I sourced a 618!
I must tell you that these mvmts are powerhorses and very - I mean - very reliable.
@ finepics:
Has the spacer arrived?
Enjoy yours!

Where am I?

Superb work indeed. Now you will just have to replace the Moljina for a more decent mvmt and you are totally there...

Happy birthday to you!! Wish you all the best,

Hi
I am looking for the diameter measurements of the following movements:
-6497
-Cortebert 618
-Cortebert 620
-Molijna
I have only found that of the Cortebert 616... 35.5mm
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Kai..
Hey Kai,
616 and 618 have the same diameter (35,5mm).
I think Moljina has a slightly wider diameter and 620 is a mystery to me. Ask Mark and he will help you with that.
I saw a 620R and I think it has the same diameter as the 616 and 618 but I do not know for sure.
But since they are both 16 lignes they should all have the same diameter.
Cheers,
Marco
-
What is the size of the Cortebert mvmt?? Any ideas??
Cal 616 has 35.5mm diameter
-
I am not sure but I think that mvmt has 41mm diameter.
To fit it inside a 47mm case you will have some work ahead... on the inside of the case.
as for the hands they will have to be worked to fit the canon pinion and barrel. At least I had to have it done on a cal. 616 cortebért.

Beautiful choice! The watch looks very nice on your wrist (I also like the shirt!
).

Cologne is the city you will want to visit.
You will enjoy it.
Somehow I found it to have a southern comfort... very unusual for a northern city.
You wont want to miss the Museum Ludwig, the Römisch-Germanisches Museum and the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum.
Cheers,
Marco
