  1. - vibes and hayden: those are both fantastic looking 1016's, would either of you mind providing specs? I always like to see what others have used.

mano- Cost was $142.50 to strip and lume the hands, and lume the dial. I can't recommend Kent enough. He's provided lume service for plenty of 1016s (both gen and franken), and I couldn't be more pleased. I can't find the lume shot he sent me, but his work is really top notch. He was patient and worked with me to find the "light" vintage that I was looking for.

Also, I found a better shot (from Kent) of the watch head before he sent it back.

    Hey mate,

My 1016 was made a while back and relatively on the "cheap"

    It used:
    - A jmb original case set (case, caseback, crystal, crown etc.)
    - yuki dial
    - predominately you hands (was my first build and I managed to destroy at least one hand in the learning process.
    - yuki bracelet

Think that's it. Was a good learning project and I've worn the hell out of it since.

  2. Crystal http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rolex-Crystal-Reference-25-116-116-NEW-CLARK-/232312380753

The bezel should have a flat friction ring, if you do not have that (can't see it in your pictures) then this is what you need http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bezel-Flat-Friction-Washer-1675-16750-16753-16758-For-Rolex-/232280989788

The bezel assembly should be in 3 parts, bezel ring, friction washer and retaining ring that presses over the crystal.
I see you have the retaining ring and bezel so maybe need the friction ring?

Good luck, I love my 1675

Current update, I've ordered s 116 Clark and found that in a weird design there is a friction ring and I've got it working better. Now just waiting on postage from the states before figuring out how to change crystal.

  3. Hi all,

Today I ended up pulling out a long since worn cartel 1675 and have decided that there's no point in leaving a decent potential sitting about unworn due to the qualms I currently have with it.

So I've done some rough research and essentially the two most urgent issues I would like to fix are the crystal (in particular the cyclops as it distorts crazily currently) and the bezel mechanism (which currently is ridiculously loose and doesn't much allow the insert to be positioned reliably). To solve the crystal I've heard of many replacing it with a clark's crystal but I am unsure as to which crystal would be used for a cartel 1675 and for the bezel mechanism I am wondering if any fix is even possible.

Eventually no doubt I'll end up modifying it in other ways but these are the most urgent ease of use modifications and any advice from those on the board who know far more about 1675s would be incredibly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    HaydenM

  4. Wow, that is nice. I would have thought it would have been Quartz but even better; a mechanical movement. I hope your mum appreciates it.

It's one of the old Zenith movements. I picked it up for a steal on eBay not knowing what size it was thinking that it was dirt cheap if it was a men's watch and still cheap of a woman's. Now I'll just have to do some movement work as it appears something isn't working properly.

Are there any witness marks from previous removals? I'd have thought a case knife would be required?

    Hey mate,

Thankfully I have found where to open the case back (just to state for the record there is a minute minute mark opposite the crown). Took it apart and cleaned up the inside of the crystal and most of the dial. Going to try to clean up the outside of the crystal now and should be ready to gift.

  6. Hi All,

With christmas coming up I wish to give my mother the gift of a watch and have had a vintage Movado that I purchased a while back sitting in my desk for this. I am just wondering if anybody would have any idea how I would go about removing the caseback on this watch as I would like to give the dial and the inside of the crystal a clean before giving it as a gift.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  7. Yeah, crownguards are certainly not really meant for waterproofness unless you go smacking your watch against something underwater and sheer the crown off (which definitely can happen, my grandfather did it numerous times with him old omega on building sites).

As for screw-down vs non-screw-down, I usually just use screw down (oysters) but there are plenty of watches without. Just don't go playing around with the crown underwater and you should be fine.
