Your thoughts on Tag Heuer as a Brand?
OldCorvette replied to paneraiguy's topic in General Discussion
TAG is owned by the Swatch Group.. the Swatch Group also owns ETA. Heuer was a really cool company before TAG bought them and they somewhat lost their soul. There's not much left of the old Heuer style.. which was an absolute bonehead managerial move- (Omega has been selling the Speedmaster in it's basically same config for over 40 years, Heuer could have sold some of their gorgeous old world classics in the same way) I'm not that hot on TAG.. there are a few cool Calibre 16 chronos in their current lineup and alot of crap otherwise. Old World Heuer.. The Camaro: Old World Heuer: Heuer Bund 3H NATO -
Size difference from a 1665 and a 1680/16610?
OldCorvette replied to AsiadeCuba's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks for the pics High-O .. I was looking for some visual perspective as well. -
I saw it ... I just love the way the ROLEX font is stretched on this dial.. I wish that font was still available on new models... such a great look.

I'd vote for a desirable Explorer that's not already being offered by someone.. like this Model 5700 Explorer Date..

Some things fall under "must preserve" and some do not. You're not getting a brand new unissued pouch with the box n papers with it and markings from the worlds most famous clothier who was on contract during the war... you're getting a surplus sale item. There were millions of men in uniform during both those wars. Will there be 10 new WWI and WWII museums built this year?.. likely not. Do re-inactors have what they need?.. likely. Do the current WWI and WWII museums have the original items they need.. likely. If you're putting something to use that would otherwise be wasted or used as moth food in another 50 years you should feel fine about it....

Unfortunately, computing this formula sounds like the perfect job for.... the Casio Data Bank !! Seriously, If you: 1. Know the width of your wrist in Millimeters 2. Find the Lug to Lug width specs and case diameter specs of the watch you are considering You're at 95% of this formula without relying on a Casio.

Met a real watch expert last night..................Not!

Spanked him ! .... .... Awesome !! I'll be filing that reply for use at a later date.. ha ha. -
I may have exaggerated .. I saw this one today while trolling and thought I'd post a pick of it for public edification. It hits me on all the right levels. Sophisticated. Understated. Rugged. Elegant.. This is a Gen 1971 Vintage Air King Date. Wish it was mine. 1971 Air King Date:

When they make a decent Heuer / Camaro rep I will be buyer number 1. I've seen a few crapezio ones..I'd even consider quartz if it came wrapped in that sexy Camaro wrapper.

Found on craigslist (Tudor) good deal or no?
OldCorvette replied to decker6869's topic in The Rolex Area
That's a joke .. You can get a Genuine Oysterdate or Datejust for that price that have their correct movements. You can get a Genuine Tudor Prince Date or DayDate for $600-$1000. Like this Tudor Date: http://www.poshtime.co.uk/bigpic2.php?id=495.143 -
I'm wearing my Tissot PRC 200 ... Genuine.

I was just looking at the Deville GMT.. I really like the way it looks.. Clean, fresh, 24hr markings. Business like and simple. I'd love to have one.. if it was bigger. It's only 35mm.. Nuts !!!
-
I've been looking at a GMT 1675 rep.. What are you guys doing for crystal replacement when that time comes. I've seen some of the Sea Dwellers advertised as original parts accepting.. is this the reality? Are most of the crystals used in the reps off the shelf generic replacements that can be easily sourced.. or will there be problems at crystal replacement time?

My younger brother collected MLB batting helmets. He ended up collecting every helmet in Major League Baseball. I know coin collectors who collect entire series of coins.. like every version of the Buffalo Nickel. Nothing wrong with collecting helmets, nickels, or watches. Be careful and make sure you Know there's a problem and not just an enthusiastic passion. Alot of these reps can be had for under $300 .. that's fairly inexpensive. If you're still thinking there's a problem address it from an financial standpoint.. start off by saying " There's this Rep I want- but I want to pay cash for it and have enough money left over for blah, blah, blah ... How are you managing the financial aspect of your collecting?" Opening up a dialogue on the financial aspect of watch collecting will at least get him thinking about it.. you hope that after thinking comes planning and budgeting. If he's planning and budgeting and not maxing out 20 credit cards he's fine.

Why wouldn't you buy a gen? Especially a vintage gen. You can get vintage Omegas for $300-$600 today. A used well kept Gen is a great bargain. In 1998 I bought a 1957 Oyster Perpetual that I felt was an incredible value. I shop at Lord & Taylor.. I also shop at Target .. My watch buying is no different. Some of the ETA engined Reps are exceptional values for what you are getting. I think it's foolish to paint yourself into a corner. Buy a well made watch(Gen or Rep)-wear it- be happy or Buy an OK watch-Mod it- be happy or Buy a box of parts- assemble it- be happy.

Help me find a Rep of This Watch - If it's available.

Here's what I found .. nice big 46mm but it's the Model 17 Airman.. the website is cookie cutter.. No original pictures, a sketchy crapshoot .. I'd feel better if there were authentic pics. http://www.watchesbc...lb8_p22072.html -
I just saw some pics of it's little brother.. the smaller, 36mm, 114270 on some different bracelets. I like the White numbers with outlined silver better and the "Explorer" marking above the hand hole near the 12 on the 114270. The Bracelets/Straps: 1. A Jubilee 2. Rugged Unfinished Saddle type leather Complete Home run .. I don't know why the Jubilee isn't the standard bracelet on the Explorer 1 .. Here's the 114270 on a Jubilee:

I tried a Genuine one of these on about 2 months ago.. They peg the cool meter.. A Glycine Airman 22 .. sooooo nice! I've found a few listings out there on Rep Websites I know nothing about.. but I'd like to get one from a dealer that perhaps someone here has done business with. Anyone know if these are being made? Who's got them?
-
Has anyone purchased an Explorer I in 39mm ? With the RolexRolexRolex ingravings ? 1. Pics ? 2. Thoughts ?
-
Will any of the dealers sell just a Rep Omega Bracelet ? 1150 , 1470,, or 1479 style ?? or a close approximation? 20mm

You make an excellent point here about burden of proof.. Having worked in the Shipping industry for many years and having personally handled Million dollar product shipments I can tell you that using a bank wire is only one of many layers of protection I normally employ. There are many ways to leave a nearly unchallengable trail of proof of integrity in the shipping process. As far as receiving product goes.. the receiver is charged with inspecting the product for defect when the product is received. What alot of people don't understand is when they sign for a package they are releasing responsibility and accepting the product as being in good acceptable condition.. depends on the legal structure of the shipping documents. If it's your money on the line during a purchase .. escrow and watch shipped to an Authorized Dealer for inspection before acceptance on higher value watches would be the way to go. Shipping to an AD while selling is also an option .. the AD can confirm you shipped an authentic watch at which point a receiving scammer would be S.O.L...
-
If Fraud is committed using a Bank Wire Transfer it is a Federal Offense under 18 U.S.C. ... It's a good method to use because the investigator if any funny business goes on will be a Federal Agent and the threat of a Federal Crime looms over any would be schiesters. It's an added "big stick" to keep people honest. I've used bank wires for this reason many times. It's the only method I use on higher value items. Similar to telling your kids ... "No pranks involving mailboxes"... it's a federal offense.

I'm having trouble with Ebay/PayPal right now. I have a P-E-R-F-E-C-T record.. I've had and maintained that record for 6 years. I've never had a single complaint launched against me as buyer or seller. I just had 9 auctions end on Ebay on the 31st (dec), and 1st of Jan. Anyway about $650 of sales and when I go to draw my money out of PayPal.. my funds are on HOLD for 21 days!!!! I have not been a High volume guy.. generally I will sell or buy 4-10 items per year. Anyway.. Ebay's policy now is to put your money on Hold if you have less than 25 sales. I found it difficult to believe that I hadn't already passed that milestone.. So I called Cust Service.. The Ebay CS rep told me I had 18 transactions as a seller.. over $2100 in sales. My buying has been even higher.. over $4000.. Regardsless of my perfect record and $6000 of buying and selling I was told "tough sh#@" essentially on getting my money released. That's not the end of it ... tommorow I will be calling Ebay CS again.. my count was 18 sales.. after the 9 auctions I just completed my total is now showing 22 sales ... obviously 18 + 9 is 27.. beyond the "funds on hold" limit.... Im not being credited with my proper amount of sales and Ebay is collecting interest on my money. I've decided from now on that I'm going to do as much business as I can on my Amazon acct.... it's cheaper, less headache.. less Ebay/PayPal trechery to navigate in the form of self serving policies and excessive fees. Ebay/PayPal are the largest.. I shop'em for deals .. but I hate their fees and policies, No business with any sense docs a customers credit rating after they've been perfect for 6 years.. unless they are just plain stupid. Ebay has alway had the stench of self service in their policies.. this last blow is sending me after greener pastures.

For those who have gotten a SOH or SOHC .. how is the lume on your model? Where did you get yours?

After reading about Swatch group's reduction in ETA movement availability.. I wondered who would step up and begin to take market share from the space they were vacating. I would like to repower a Rep with a Sellita SW200.. seems like an easy relatively inexpensive way to Experiment with a new to me Movement while hopefully improving quality. The SW200 is supposed to be very much like the 2824.. I will yield to the watchmakers to explain just how much. It is a Swiss made movement that evidently doesn't have as much detail work done as the 2824.. this is something I can live with as long as the mechanical integrity is there. http://www.sellita.ch/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7&Itemid=12&lang=en I'm not one sold on single acts of low quality.. most organizations are human powered and thus have room for human error. I worked in the Automotive industry and can recount stories to you of brand new high quality/reliable American, Japanese, German vehicles being delivered with glaring parts missing, factory tools being left underhood, etc... What does this say about the overall quality of the brand?.. Nothing in my opinion. I would guess some very intelligent, degreed individuals with perfect command of the English language occasionally post replies on this forum with misspelled words.. Things slip sometimes in the course of everyday life. This is why most dealerships have Make Ready departments. I said all this to try and head off anyone telling me how bad Sellitas are from a single problem viewpoint... If a watchmaker here had taken many Sellitas in, tweeked them himself, and found the quality wanting over a period of time I'd be more apt to listen to his complaints. Anyway.. we are entering a New era in Movements because of ETAs choices.. we aren't going back. There were alot of great movements made in the 50's, 60's,70's... Patents on most have expired and we live in the age of CNC machining and computer modeling. Zenith and others had some superb movements from that era.. I love to see an old Zenith movement copied/updated/tweeked and offered as an over the counter movement choice...
