  1. ajoesmith: Upon further review and stepping back from the excitement, you are right. I would imagine an experienced high-end watch repairman should know that inside an Omega would be an Omega movement and labled as such. Guess he aint that good. On the brighter side, I feel I can get some of my watches wterproofed and/or serviced. He was familier with the ETA movements....
  2. Strange story but a testiment to how good these reps are. I visited a local jewler who is not AD but sells Rolex, cartier and other high end watch as well as works on them. I can tell he is not on top of Omega's but definitly does all his work onsite with his father in back of shop. I went in to get my new SMP from josh sized as I could not get the screws out and almost ruined band trying. I removed watch case and clsp and only brought in band as I needed one link removed from each end. He was able to do this but asked where watch was. I explained I did not want it ruined as I was working on it at home. I inquired if he did servicing work on all watches. he said yes. I said I had some watches but was not sure if real because my brother gave them to me as gifts and did not want to question him. He said bring in and he would be happy to determine. he said He would not waterproof fake watches as they are junk and cannot be waterproofed. I said OK as e had no problem with reps etc. I came back in today with the SMP so he could finish the links and assemble the band as I could not get screw pin in the last link (quite a frustrating process). I told him I called my brother to tell him I needed one of the watches he gave me serviced and my brother had to confess they were reps. he looked at the SMP and said "this is a fake??" He could not believe it. I took off my UPO I was wearing and asked him to pop it open to tell me if he thought it was OK watch regardless. He took it in back where I could see him and his father working and looking at it. He came back and told me he and his father believed the UPO was gen as the markings on back of cases and anti-magnetic would cost too much to put on a rep. I told him my brother travels to SE Asia and told me it was a rep. he said "someone may have sold him a gen by mistake as this looks perfect" Now granted he may not be all over Omegas but the guy works with Rolexes everyday and sells some of them used in his shop {that clients have sold him). I asked if he would waterproof and he was still convinced it was gen and told me to wear it in shower and if it is OK, then wear swimming. I asked if it fogged or leaked could he repair. He said absolutly and would be happy to service my other reps. Yea, I have a watch repairman! he came back and told me the SMP was fake as the band and crown gave away so he knew somethings....
  3. Just ordered the burlwood version of this from Anthony. I have attached a phot he sent. It is going out today with hopeful delivery by Monday! Burlwood_winder.bmp
  4. Blackrain you cost me $200! Your review convinced me I need one of these. Now that I have impulsed purchsed 6 reps in the last couple of months I need to get the toys and accessories!
  5. Just got my Omega SMP from Josh. before I write a review, I have a stupid question. the outer edges (surface where screws are) of the links are all polished. I thought the gen had brushed ends? This is also true on my UPO. Are both of these gens polished or brushed SS. It's an easy fix if brushed...........
  6. OK boys here it is! Sorry for the pic quality but my first attempt at photographing watch. After the previous posts, i think this watch is spot on!
  7. What are the hour markers supposed to look like on the gen SMP? Mine just got here and have a slight yellow tint (ofcourse in the dark of the package)? Also thought there was silver lining like rolex? Any insights or do I have inaccurate dial?
  8. Yea I might end up with the SMP GMT. same thickness. Only issue is it has the display caseback but wrong color movement. I might be able to live with that. Boy: You are right about the Rolex stigma. Everyone in Scottsdale is walking around with a "Rolex" of which I am assuming 90% are fake! That's why I have only the LV rep (3 of them which I am trying to get perfected. I have kindof become an Omega guy. People recognize the brand as quality (james bond) and don't even assume they make fake ones. Although I am excited about a Chpard gran Turismo I have on order from Neil.....
  9. BY-tor: I am so bummed as I took a boatload of time researching the watch and dealers and whether SMP or SMP chrono. I ended on SMP as I wanted a watch I could wear with suit (not too thick) and easier to waterpoof (no chrono [censored]s) and was reasonably good rep (easy fixes on pearl alignment etc) But this oversight makes the watch unwearable to me. I am [censored]. I guess I can refuse delivery but god knows when I will get money back. I might have to get the chrono after-all.
  10. The irony is we have been waiting for a new face on the SMPs to match the new ones produced by Omega (red Seamaster on dial see link). http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=2...&no_cache=1 Well we got the new dial but it is a step backward. I have been informed that the new dial is same as old but now does not have the small marker at 3 o'clock. Why would they go to the trouble of producing or procuring new dials and go backwards!! Frustrated because I have an SMP in transit from Josh that I thought would be the same as that on his website. When I inquired directly to Josh as to whether or not the marker was gone, it is appearant Josh drop ships as he did not know. I went ahead and asked Andrew (knowing they have basically same watches and this is what he told me : "Currently the Maker has changed the Dial to one with no 3 o'clock marker already. All dealers will carry the same ones. =) Josh told me when package arrives I can peek while mailman there and if no marker reject package. What a hassel and when and how does he refund money etc? Anyhow, I know the midsize SMP has no marker but cannot figure out why they would go backwards! Does anyone have any insights?
  11. OK. First of all I think the author of the thread got a bunch of members' panties in a bundle for no reason. It appears the dealer he is referring to is Josh (since the pics he references are the perfect clone pics). It also was thought by me that he was saying that the ULTIMATE POs by this dealer were cheap fakes which could be identified by the action of crown winding. Since this expaination was convoluted, I took the back off my Ultimate PO from Josh I got one month ago and it was the movement advertised (EXACTLY as pictured above in large pic). This watch cost $238 plus shipping. Was the target of his thread strictly the PO lite watches described as asian 2824-2? If so, very well. Based on my research on my ultimate, it has the movement as described by seller. Now there are members opening their 45 PO lites to see what's in theirs. It was described as an ASIAN COPY 2824-2. I am assuming the rest of the watch is identical to the ultimate (braclet, case, face, etc). If I bought a watch for $128, do I really expect the movement to be the same or as good as that in the same watch that sells for $238? I hope not. It was never described as an ETA (unless 2824-2 automatically assumes ETA which may be). What am I missing? I am not trying to be a smartass I am just trying to cut through all the movemnt "code"
  12. Update: Thank heavens for ducktape. I purshased U.PO from Josh a month ago. I took off back and the picture above is the movement I have in my watch (exactly). I now feel better that I have a good ETA clone in mine. As for the winding test, when I am in winding mode and move crown clockwise, I feel resistance, then when moved counterclockwise I hear ratchet noise but feel no resistance. What does all this tell me????? F*$% if I know. Maybe sometimes ignorance is bliss : )
  13. Teejay: based on all that is going on with our "trusted " dealers. I cannot see face clear enough to pull trigger and am reluctant to try out a new dealer at this point. Trying to get back off my U.PO as I type this to see how bad I got burned on this watch.....
  14. I have a rolex caseback opener but not sure how to open Omega UPO back. Any suggestions?
  15. OK now I am getting [censored]. I got a U. PO from Josh a month ago and looks great, works great. But I counted on it being the movement advertised. But based on what you are describing, the movement is a cheap Miyota COPY. How long will thios thing last? I am assuming the picture on his site (the one I believe you used to start thread) is the one in my watch. I also am assuming upon closer inspection it is the cheap Miyota. In otherwords, the picture is accurate representation on movement but the description as 2982-2 (Asian ETA copy) is not. Oopps. I guess when this one craps out I will have to ask someone how to replace movement and which one and how to get.....What a hassle.
  16. Seems about every other time I click on a link on this site I am getting this message. Started 2 days ago. Anyone else have problem or is it my computer? "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /members/Iand39m-Actually-Mad-Now-t23501.html on this server. 17. I think Omeega has a ligitmate "complaint". The picture on josh's site of the watch shows an accurate face with a 3 o'clock marker. His did not come with that and is an easy spot for it being a rep. the other stuff was just along for the ride. I am waiting on this watch from josh and quite frankly have not received a clear answer from him of weather or not the watch is missing that marker. I think he can't give it to me beacuse he does not know as it is sent already and he probably never saw it. Rolexman talks of the 3 o'clock marker not being on the new dials which I have seen no proof of so I can relate to Omeega's pain on this issue. Teejay, share the love and tell us all where the accurate $92 rep is. Isn't that what these forums are for??? As I might have to ship my SMP back to josh.....
  18. Rolexman: I PMed you but would like to throw this out the the other members. I just ordered a SMP from Josh 2 days ago and am counting on it being exact as in his picture. http://watchwindersworld.com/omse10002-sea...8242-p-892.html After reading this post I was concerned as I can find NO reference to any gen new SMP not having the small marker at the 3 o'clock. The only one that is missing marker at 3 o'clock is SMP midsize. Even the new SMP (red "seamaster" on dial has the small marker at 3 'oclock. http://www.prestigetime.com/items.php?acti...o=&start=12 So I e-mailed Josh to verify that the watch I would be getting has small marker at 3 o'clock as his web advertises via pictures. His responce was simply "The SMP I have sent to you is the most correct model.. " I felt this did not address my concern so I e-mailed again and he said he would ensure it. I am nervous now that I will get what Omeega got. If someone can demonstrate that the correct men's SMP does not have small marker at 3 o'clock please reply. Thanks!!
  19. Josh's website shows the SMP with the 3 o'clock marker. if it arrives without one, he will get it back.
  20. I agree. The dealers need to use clearer terminology on their pages and try to be sure they know what they are putting in the watches so it is EASIER to make an informed decision. I did the research and understood it to be a SG movement. I also researched the movement and found it not to be "junk" or $10. Infact some have said this is a better than asian copy of ETA. My only point is that we also have some of the responsibility to use our members' knowledge and do the research to protect OURSELVES against dealers that may be taking shortcuts or using obscure terminology for their movements. The first thing I learned on this site from the veterans was to do my homework. I think we are nieve if we think EVERY watch will have the perfect specs. Andrew and Josh, how many thousands of watches does each offer?? It is because we demand choices that creates some of this. It would be great if we could trust everything that is described in every watch. Grab a beer and do the research...it's half the fun !
  21. Look you guys are missing the point. Some of the members [censored] at the newbies to "do your Research" That's exactly what I did when I used the great wealth of knowledge form the other members on this site BEFORE I bought the watch. RXrandy was the first to indicate it was a Seagul vs ETA. So I did a search on seagul and came up with alot of info (most of it positive) http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...2&hl=seagul Infact there was a recent thread that indicated the dealers should use more explicit terminolgy for the movements and low and behold one of our prized members labled all the movements and the "code" dealers use. One of which was ETA 2892/Seagul s-18 See this link http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...1&hl=seagul herte is my point. there are alot of members who get on a high horse and tell the other members to do research, research research. If the dealers are taking shortcuts you can usually find it out by following your own advise and making an informed decision. I love this place. I am convinced dealers will come and go as they are risking alot more than us. As my contractor says "it is what it is".
  22. I think you forgot to add "and not that concerned about it". [censored], the [censored]er looks great! (language you guys understand). http://watchwindersworld.com/omse10022-aqu...892-p-1434.html I can't help myself as I am ingnorant. the site advertises the watch movement as 2892-2 which my understanding is an asian copy of ETA. I have been told the actual movement is Seagul. I have also heard the Seagul movement is pretty good. Crystal has said The Zigmeister feels it is a piece of crap. The point is this: I bought a rep to LOOK like the gen. If I wanted a good watch for the money I would but a casio quartz. The reason i have no problem here is because they had to use the Seagul (if that is what it is) with silver movement to look like gen becuase it has display caseback and gen is silver (vs. ETA which is gold). Now, Josh should have said what the movement was vs ETA 2892-2, I agree, but would not have influenced buying decision. Sorry to [censored] you guys off. Infact, the reason I did not get SMP GMT is because the ETA in that display caseback is gold and gen is silver. dead giveaway and useless to me. I think we ask alot from these dealers in terms of getting the watches to be exactly like gen and we have to balance quality for asthetics. Bottom line is the piece cost 270 bucks. To me that's an investment in a fun hobbie to a watch that looks great. I will let everyone know when it fails
  23. Ummmm......can't we talk about hot chicks wearing hot watches : ) Anyhow. I think we all need to step back and realize we want our cake and eat it too (which is possible) By that I mean we are dealing in an illegal trade which we want morality. Seems odd. Second Supply and demand dictate markets. if dealers are misrepresenting, out them in dealer review and readers will think twice before ordering. As far as prices, i am still shocked how good most of these watches are for the price we are paying. With mods (limited) and tinkering, they are nearly every bit as good as gens for THOUSANDS less. Third. I think we pay for convenience in dealing with big 2 dealers (Credit Card and easy to order and very responsive to questions) Some of the other dealers are a pain to order from Finally. dealers need to take head and publis exactly what is in the rep. We are big boys and can make decisions as such. If it costs more to put ETA, charge more.... I just got my Seamaster Aqua Terra from Josh this AM and it is BEAUTIFUL.
  24. I e-mailed Josh and he said no plans of doing new SMP in near future. I think the current SMPs are good with HE pacement. Only issue is scres vs pins(no big deal as not really visable)., Bezel alignment with pear (easy fix) and pearl itself, (not an easy fix). Infact i am about to order SMP and asked who to order from Josh or Andrew. Got no difinitive answer. Found out today from Andrew that he and Josh are friends and talk everyday. Go figure!
  25. Andrew: I am laid up for 2 weeks with new hip so I will keep eyes peeled. We don't need this! Does he place orders and not pay or is he just clogging up your order processing with all the fake orders?
