  1. Just got my QC pics, and rejected the watch right away. The pearl was way off. I did specify in the order and the mail correspondence that the pearl placement was the one single thing that needed to extra attention so I was a bit surprised to find it so very off center. Hopefully I will get a new set of QCs soon. Andrew has been nothing if not helpful, and I'm sure he can find a better bezel or watch for me.

  2. Yea, I guess I do like bigger watches, but not too big. I had the 42mm PO for about an hour and I thought it looked good. I know it's too late now for this one, but I've been considering getting a 45mm with a black bezel (I think this means I have the addiction!)

I'm planning on installing the gen crown and tube almost as soon as I get this, so i will be picking everyone's brains soon. I've heard it's easy, but I want to make sure I'm prepared to do it right.

I ordered that Rodico you suggested btw, thanks for the advice!

I'm not the only one with small wrists then, although my 6,5" are smaller than yours. I'm 6 feet (184cm) so I think it's a bit thin - not to mention a bit unfair considering my father's wrists are twice as thick as mine. Either way I think I'm a bit limited when it comes to watches. The larger ones look ridiculous on my wrist. I once owned a gen Speedmaster reduced that looked fine on my wrist. Kinda regret selling it - I haven't seen any resonably priced in some time and the size was just right.

So you are going to do the mod yourself? I've been thinking about it, but haven't decided yet. It's kind of fun with that sort of stuff, but I figure the tools alone costs way more than sending it away to someone experienced to do it for you, no?

  3. Yeah, I agree. I haven't decided for sure either. I just ordered one, so waiting for QC pics now. :)

Speaking of parts - I can't imagine they have a crown for each and every model they make, do they? I was just wondering if it was possible to get a new crown for my 39mm Aqua Terra, even if they don't sell AT parts per say. Might be the same crown as another watch that they do sell parts to. Just don't know how to go about finding it out.

  4. Right 42mm dial with red numbers is:

Case No: 168.1653 (It's the case No for the full orange 42mm PO)

    Part No: 064WK3171011

    CousinsUK ref: X24022

Thanks! Really great! Yeah, I've never experienced a web shop even remotely as bad as cousins uk. Thanks a lot for getting me the ref number! Also thanks for the tips in the post above, I'm leaning towards the white numerals right now and I can decide what to get as a gen.

  5. So, I'm thinking about getting a PO as well. Everyone else got one, why not me? :p

Right now I figure the best choices for my rather thin wrists would be the 42mm all black/white one:

or the black/white one with red numerals:

I figured I'd go with Andrew since I've ordered from him before and I've been more than happy with everything. As a matter of fact, I even found this forum through him. I researched rep watches by just using google and looking around, and finally I decided on Andrew and he had a link to this forum on his page.

I will probably want to go franken with it sooner or later. As far as I gather from the earlier threads on this forum, this is the best out of the box model. Is it still the model to get if I'm going to change dial and hands? Bezel? As for now though, I'm thinking of keeping the rep bezel if it looks okay. How is the out of the box AR on this model?

I like the one with red numerals slightly, slightly better. I was thinking of going with the all white/black rep since it's supposedly slightly more accurate, and then get the gen dial with red numerals. Thoughts? One problem though - all I could find at cousins UK was the all white/black one.

So what should I look out for in the QC pictures? HE valve placement? Bezel pearl?

    Thanks guys!

  6. Great review! As I said before, I really like this watch and it's on my list. It's definitely beautiful.

I don't know if I prefer automatic or manual. If you use just one watch all the time, automatic is more convenient, but if you change a lot it doesn't really matter.

  7. @Lovecraft, I have exactly a 7" wrist myself, but this Panerai is a 44mm and I think fits my wrist perfectly:

I think you should give it a try if you like them!

I have 6,5" - but you are right, it looks great on you. I might actually give it a shot! So many watches, so few wrists... what to do ;)

  8. So basically besides the red numerals this is the same watch as white? Is this colors issue noticeable? maybe I should chage to white numerals, although I must say the red ones add something a bit funky to the watch

I'm thinking about getting a PO myself, how could I not after reading all the countless threads here... I really like the one with the red 6/9/12, although I might go for the one with white numerals and then get the gen dial with red numerals when I inevitably would want to start to franken my PO. Without knowing for sure, I'm guessing no-one will see the faint difference in hue unless you compare it next to a gen - I doubt it would be a problem. However, YOU would know and that's a different story ;)

  9. Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy an easy movement to just mess around with and learn more before I open up my other watch. I don't mind if it's cheap or if it's without a watch case. What would be an easy and common movement to start out with? And where would I buy it?

    Thanks in advance :)

  10. I haven't found any within driving distance and I'm not too keen on sending €1000-2000 to somebody without seeing what I'm getting in return. The new ones with the teak dial sell for about €3000 here, which is a tad too expensive for me even if I do get the nice 8500 movement. I just wouldn't be comfortable wearing it though, because of the price.

I guess there's always the quartz option, but I know I'd hate it :p

It's good that I really like my rep AT. It got a handful of small things that irritate me, including the happy feet, but it's still a lovely rep imo.

  11. I went with timepiecerepublic's straps. It's yet to arrive but seems promising.

I took a bunch of photos, but with bad lighting (I'm at a cabin at the moment) and just my camera phone the results were anything but good. I'll post the two that were the "best" of the bunch. You are probably better off looking at the QC pics though, at http://imgur.com/a/DiA0r which are very similar to my watch.

I like it a lot even if I'm not using it right now - it will have to wait a few weeks.

If you were to franken it, what parts would you go for? I'm thinking dial, but apart from that?

  12. I saw some of the newer ATs at Omega's site and thought they looked pretty great with their vertical lines on the dial. Does anyone have an idea if they might be showing up as reps anytime soon? The ATs aren't exactly as popular as the POs and they might not be replicated at all?

I just recently bought an "older" AT - the one with blue hands - from Andrew. I'm much too happy with it right now to do anything with it, but would it be possible to franken it in the future? It looks close enough to be 1:1 to me, but the site says 39mm while I think the gen is 39,5mm. It would be a future project anyway, but would be nice to know if it's an option.
