  1. While I am coming to appreciate some 'stock' items, I've always prefered custom. The other day, I had to refinish a Sony iPod docking speaker wifey liked up in a yardsale for 1.50 (minus power lead and remote) It works fine, but had obviously taken a bit of abuse as the lacquer finish on a few of the corners had been chipped. I used modeling putty to rebuild the lines of the case, and then planned to recreate the look with black Plastikote and a clear coat. After wetsanding the black paint to prep it for the clear coat, I really liked the matte finish (which by coincidence, blends nicely with the plastic foot/contol panal) so I decided to keep it matte, and then wrapped a 2-3 inch wide strip of mahogany-effect vinyl around it so it would blend better with older furniture. Now I admit, it may not be to everyone's taste, but I like it (wifey and inlaws were suitably impressed too) so I always say if you want to go custom, go custom :victory: As for the lugs, I've got to respectfully disagree with my compadres... If the watch is going to be worn on NATO and be subjected to the abuses of active daily wear, fixed lug bars will keep the watch on the strap way better than sprung bars would. Sure, I know that with a NATO both spring bars have to fail before you lose the watch, but with fixed bars, that's just not going to happen at all :whistling::good::drinks:

I thoroughly respect your creative streak! I have it too. Maybe that is where it stems from. Have you checked out iron on vaneers? Strangely they aren't much more than plastic!

Well back on topic, the "irreversible" bit is the killer for the lugs. I can't do it to what is pretty much my favorite watch. The reason I like it so much is it is Rolex quality without having Rolex on the dial plus it just screams out "tool watch".

A FREE watch winder (4 + 6) to the first person that guesses the watch I am wearing.

Only 1 guess each! (if you were obnoxious to this new little member then you needn't play :)).

  3. And just to dispel the affordability issues, I bought this new. And no, I didn't make it. Jeez, never had to be so defensive on a forum before. The Ferrari (I have the convertible too) stays in the garage. Now, back to watches. Hopefully the bits will arrive today :)

    Can you guess the watch?

EDIT Deleted the Bentley GT pic 'cause J-Lo wanted it back :)

  4. 100% Trustworthy, and he is even crazier about replicas than we are :)

His email is info at jewelryandwatch.com

2824's are amazing workhorses. Rolex use them in their Tudor range! I just bought a skeleton one. Not sure what I will build with it yet :)

Everybody here was a noob here once ;)

  5. Ok, have to warm up this old post.

    Got my parts in.

Nicely engraved DW case set for V72 with a good exotic dial (black sub dials, even if the dial feet don't line up with the V72).

The V72 from ebay turned out to be actually nicer than it looked on the ebay pics and runs like a charm.

Now trying to put it all together the problems started :)

First the large second hand disappeared (don't ask, but somebody might have a broken arm one day...) and the DW sub seconds hands don't fit at all.

So now my cry for help: does anybody have a handset that will fit (size and color)?

If yes - and especially if you are in CONUS please send me a PM.

    Thank you in advance.

Try Phong at JewelleryAndWatch. He has them. Somebody else might know a better place but he definitely has them.

  6. I'm sorry, but I think the op is being deliberatively provocative. I can "afford" to key my own car and then get it fixed, but I don't because I'm not an [censored]. I certainly wouldn't ask people if I should just to get a rise out of them. Bottom line, great lume job, but still a terrible idea.

I can't help thinking you're deliberately being a twaat. All I am doing is changing the hands and a few other things. I'm modding my watch. That's what X Project and BJSOnline do with their Pro Hunter. To use the analogy of scratching your car is just being a dicckheadd. I collect cars too and yep, I've been known to change the alloys on the odd vintage golf to BBS. Shocking eh?
