  1. Actually you can ask to mix the white with SS bracelet or black with leather. I was a bit anxious it would not be done, but surprisingly no problem at all on this request :D

I avoided the black, as it really has bad reflections on this model. And I'm not sure everyone would invest 55 to 75 USD to correct this on a 148 USD watch (I would, but didn't as I already have a black GMT Timewalker :D)

  2. Hi Folks,

I have just received this one from Andrew (impossible to find it elsewhere...). Fast shipment and no bad surprise, I was happy with this transaction after more than 1 year without business with TrustyTime...

Maybe some of you know I'm a Montblanc fan : my first rep was a MB Star, and I currently own a Timewalker GMT and MB Sports Chrono. I have always desired the Timewalker Chrono, but always found something else on the top of my wish list. I was also probably reluctant to spend more than 250 dollars on an other A7750 based chrono...

Most of the cheap versions I've seen are automatic watches with faux-chrono, which is a feature I definitely can't stand : anyone having a look at your watch will find the feature ridiculous.

Often quartz reps are also of poor quality. Recently however I was lucky enough to find a few models which use the same case and accessories (bracelet/straps) as on the "high end" model : personally I was absolutely charmed by my Quartz Tag Aquaracer, Breitling Navitimer and now this Timewalker Chrono. On its way too a Quartz IWC Cousteau Diver. I've seen that the Corum A.C. looks pretty good too. I can only hope there are more to come, as I consider this as a smart alternative for those who don't want to spend too much, or just have too many 7750s in their collection already... like me :)

I won't review my Timewalker, as the 7750 based one was discussed many times, and considered as a very accurate rep from its construction point of view. Here we have a quartz version which does not exist in the genuine range. But it would probably look exactly like this one if Montblanc decided to use a quartz engine.

Here's a necessary link to St

  3. I abandonned the idea of reporting on ebay a long time ago : they just don't care, and if you go further and tell a buyer he bought a fake watch, you just go into troubles and/or insults.

What I see is his price.

But would not buy from him, I guess he's worse than any boards dealer.

  4. Some already passing the thing for a gen on Ebay

Andreww : what's the price of the gen Omega strap you're mentionning ? (expensive rubber strap are new for me..., I mean it)

Not sure if we should refer to the real thing's price to accept a high price.

I paid my HBB strap + clasp less than 50 and my Oris rubber + clasp 40 dollars... (that one was pure luck, as it's usually not for sale separately)

  5. I'd love to have a rep strap that does not take dust. For PAMs too.

If so, I'll buy 2 of each... but to a dealer who will offer it under 50 shipped, and there will, I'm sure. (Silix ? Trevor ? - they both had competitive prices for my Ingie strap with deployment, especially Trevor)

As for all accessories, the margins are skyhigh...

    Makes sense for the dealer.

Makes sense for the potential buyer to inquire everywhere.

Example : you get a rep Panerai watch box for less than 40 dollars (+ 35 dollars if shipped EMS or 15 by registered mail) from some dealers whereas others ask 120 or more (with shipment by airmail only)

  6. Well, I like to look at webstores as a catalogue. This is convenient. But I don't buy online, I still prefer to talk with the dealer, know if the watch's on stock, the various options (additionnal strap) and ... get a discount ;)

I'm not really fan of Photobuckets, as I miss the "technical" datas, especially regarding sizes and movements.

  7. Coool :)

    @TripleS :

    - here's a shot of the cyclop. There's no magnification, and if any it's unnoticeable

    - I could not see which kind of cyclop it is, as when I try to see it from the side, I'm disturbed by the crystal distortion ; BTW, could someone tell me the advantage of a sandwich crystal ?

    - I used Loctite indeed for the lever fix (Super Glue 3) : I first tried with some silicone (the one you use for your batchroom), but the results were not good, as it still moved. I find the Loctite perfect. Of course, you have to carefully clean all excess of glue. And remember, Loctite is not a definitive fix, you can remove it, as it will break if you push the pin out of its place.

Actually I did the same for my former 112, and it was still holding well when I sold it, after 1 year.

I used a very small indirect drop (applied with toothpick) in the lever pinhole.

I'm looking for a rubber strap (which does not take dust), not necessarily Panerai branded (not sure if they're good). I find the Seiko rubber a good alternative. But could not find one neutralized.

    Any link ? :)

  8. Why are you upset with a rep movement, but okay with a rep dial?

Why are you upset with non-superluminova but okay with poor threading on screws?

Why are you upset with poor AR but okay with an undecorated movement?

Our standards for upset are individual and artificial. What we have to, ideally, admit to is that we want as accurate a rep as possible? And why? We'll never admit it, but we want to feel like we're wearing the gen. Why would the movement mater at all if it lasts for a very long time?

Well, when I'm buying a counterfeit Rolex with a fake dial, I know what I' doing and noone advertize them as the real thing.

When I'm buying a "genuine ETA" for (almost?) its full price, I expect it to be so : but I understood noone can rely on that anymore and I should automatically consider I'm buying an Asian clone... I'm OK with that if the price is in relation with that. That's the only point which disturbs me, and probably Rodwc too.

  9. That all makes me happy in my behaviour of not swearing by Swiss movements only, as I did in the beginning. If I consider thzat my only problematic rep had one of these onboard, I don't see why I should pay that much to get something I don't really know "how Swiss it is"

  10. Thx TJ ! :D

Here are some pictures of an actual 243 (not a prototype).

As mentionned the biggest tell is the placement of the T Swiss Made T.

But there's an other one : some kind of valves under the lugs : any idea what that is ? (outside of an immediate tell :o )

    img64841qs0.jpg

There's some kind of urgent need to flatten te pin that holds the lever...

  11. Thx for the write up, that was really interesting :)

The Sellita movements we saw in our reps some time ago seem to have faded... Or have we just forgotten this topic ? I'd be curious on what's their place in our little World today, as I understood they are a very viable replacement to the ETA movements... Well, it seems that the Asian clones (or call it how you want) too :)

One thing we can't avoid and which stays a real problem : these clones can be as good as they want (virtually same as the "Swiss" ETAs), I can't swallow to pay the same price for them. I'm ready and eaven wish to see them in our reps more and more, but as a tool to keep the rep prices reasonable, not as a source of easy money for the manufactuers...or dealers.

There's something which is beyond my understanding : why would Breitling worry so much about the absence of ebauches ? Even if their 2824 or 2835 purchasing price is doubled, it still won't represent more than 10% in the price of many of their watches. Isn't there a gap in the other 90% to help absorbing the movement price increase ? Like saving money on the boxes ? ;)
