  1. Hi,

just saw new link two tones on PC's website.

With subdials (faux Chrono ?) and non chrono, obviously Quartz (and hopefully affordable).

If the price is reasonable, one of these might well become my second Tag.

I did not find the gen.

    Are these fantasy watches ?

    Cheers.

PS as I can't directly link, I hope pics won't harm the rules

  2. Hi,

I got this new toy about 2 weeks ago.

It came with a Swiss ETA 2836-2, without strap for 150 dollars shipped...

It took me some time to choose the dress : finally I went to something classic (black alligator), highlighted with white stitching and a 3-fold deployant clasp, both giving the watch a more sporty look.

It's 43 mm diameter and has very few flaws against the gen : white digits instead of silver, which in fact make the dial much clearer, as there is no AR coating. The crown is beautiful, the GMT feature works and the Swiss ETA keeps perfect time.

Also the gen has a transparent display case back (same as the Chono version) and here it came with a SS one, but with correct engravings : indeed, that's the replica of the non GMT version.

That's a true evidence that it's possible to get excellent reps for much less than the new 250-300++ trend.... I hope to meet such bargains more often and hereby would like to thank River for that.

Focus on the buckle that a member offered me for free. :D (updated 1st june 2007)

The engraving is really deep and sharp, and the side keeps the same spirit as the lugs.

And a lume shot... The lume is more anecdotic than visible on this piece. No idea about the gen.

    Here's the gen.

And here's the back of the non GMT gen

  3. Agreed, in general for most reps, and on this specific model in particular.

You can't get anything new under 300 dollars.

For the Chopard, after reading the various threads, I feel it's even more unfair : a 7750 which does not use the chrono features nor the seconds at 9 and has a jerky main seconds hand (whatever is explained on the reason for it). Vanilla strap ? Well... :whistling:

Of course, most owners will find it nice (which it is actually), but I think it isn't worth the price, and as many, I would rather go to the cheaper model with Asian 21J and have it modded, provided it's possible : get a black date wheel and possibly a new strap, although it does not seem absolutely necessary.

I still wonder why they chose the 7750, where any Asian21J or a Swiss ETA (with a modded datewheel) would have done the job.

  4. Hi all,

I have a very simple question, but as it's the first time for me to use a watchwinder, I am wondering about which setting I should use :

    - run clockwise

    - run anti-clockwise

    - run both

Most will answer to use the third one if I hesitate, but the problem of that mode is that it moves much more often :

    - clockwise OR anticlockwise : run 6 mins, pause 30 minutes, run 6 mins etc...

    - run both : runs 20 minutes, stops 10 minutes, run 20 minutes etc... (I wonder why there is a such big difference...)

I read in The Zigmeister's various Q&A that the Swiss movements would wind in both directions. The asian movements would wind in only one direction, then which one ?

Besides, although it sounds stupid, does it make sense to put my handwind watch on the winder, to enable a better lubrification ?

    Thx for your comments.

  5. Hi Stephane,

    thx :)

In fact I'm using a "cheap" light tent : I followed Pugwash's advices on how to take pics.

And here, I have a white sheet of paper in a transparent box, all covered with a white cloth

But I will surely invest in a tent and an adequate lighting.

I love your photos too, especially the close-ups you did on the Vacheron. I can't get this done with my camera. At least I did not find proper settings.

  6. Hi all,

it's been a while since I wished to expose my watches here... When my first watchwinder came home, that made me think "it's time to do the step", as I realized I start owning a decent number of watches, mix of gens and reps. Most gens are just affordable or just cheap ones. They all have in common the fact that I enjoy wearing each single one of them. I have sold the ones that had no or poor wristtime.

I hope you will enjoy as much as I enjoyed taking the pics. None of the reps have their original leather strap, I find them mostly bad or at best very standard. Even the cheapest gens have acceptable straps, so I'm a bit disappointed by reps from this point of view. Anyway, the bright side of this lack is that the watches just get more beautiful with new patiently chosen dresses.

If you have questions on some models, don't hesitate and also have a look at my signature, I tried to review/picture them all (except gens).
