uncle jay is the bestest... -
sorry, i should have mentioned that i do have a jimmy bezel as well. i picked up the kit on rwi, from a long time member. bezel and case are jimmy, crystal is dsn. i am waiting on a response if the gasket is a jimmy one. he did state and showed me a link that has a similar set up on another watch and it looks great. so i am thinking it wil work, but am just making sure. if i was to cement it, what would i use? UV glue? hypocement?
-
Ok, I know that you would need a jimmy gasket to make a non jimmy crystal fit in the case, but hypothetically if you don't have the right gasket, what other alternatives are there to make it work. Could someone glue the crystal in place? I got a kit and it has a dsn crystal, but not specified on what the gasket is. it is probably the right one, but after reading and reading, i am just a bit nervous and want to have all my ducks in a row incase i need to figure out another method. cheers. pete

No Victoria, I am a rugby player. Don't follow footy too much. The only good thing about the RossoNeri is Gattuso, and he SHOULD be a rugby player.

victoria...you aren't a rossoneri fan are you...

in response to slai (hey, mate) and being Italian, let me explain. Paneristi means the whole bunch of them. Panerista is feminine Paneristo is male. this ends your Italian lesson for today. Tomorrow we will discuss cazzo and fregnia... ciao tutti...

I have to agree with jot, and of course I am playing Devil's Advocate here, but it looks like he was asking for an oppinion. -

DSN 232 - How is the dial? Picky people wanted! :)
pete2528ca replied to chad's topic in The Panerai Area
Yeah, I had the same issue with two DSN watches. The Dial was also crooked, rotated similar to yours. What I ended up doing is taking off the hands, taking off the dial, sanding off the feet, building a little jig (perfectly straight crosses on a piece of cardboard) and crazy gluing the dial down. Took a couple of trys but got it perfectly straight now. Honestly, I will NEVER order a full watch from DSN again. His cases have stripped lug holes, the dials are [censored], etc etc. Lately what I have been doing is just buying parts and building my own watches. -
Well kids, here is my 201/A I built and finished the other day. Parts include: 1. DSN dial from AWS (Thanks Mate. Did the strap arrive or is Canada post going to take another week? ) 2. Case and crystal from eBay (seller was helenrou, first time transaction but they were pretty quick and it only cost me fifty bucks. They had one listed but I took the chance and emailed them and asked for one outside of ebay and shipped to Canada. Fifty seemed fair, but the case back was [censored] (engraved Marina Militare and crown guard was worse than the one I had issues with from DSN on my PAM000) 3. Crown super thick one I got as a repair item from Andrew and was sitting in my watch box. 4. Crown came actually with the case. 5. Movement from eBay (seller was sizzlen watches. They had 19 asian 6497's with swan necks listed, and I offered sixty bucks for it and got it shipped within a week. again a great seller to deal with) 6. Stem was the winding stem that came with the movement, that long ass one. 7. Hands came from a seller over on repgeek. Traded them for a bag of Lays Ketchup potato chips. I feel bad for you poor Americans who can't buy them in the States, and you call yourselves a civilized nation 8. Movement holders (see my other post) were made by hand out of thin metal. Shitty really, but they work for now. OK, now for the nitty gritty. First and foremost I had to trim down that long winding stem to fit. I then had to file it down to size. I got an ETA blueprint from hxxp://www.eta.com.hk/u8/home.html and used the stem picture as a guideline to cut it down. Worked like a charm. A little loctite and it sat perfectly. I then used some thin metal and drilled out a 1/16th hole and filed around it to make a movement holder. Problem is that the metal is a bit weak, and bent when installing the movemnt to the case. It holds well, but not strongly, if you know what I mean. I have another post looking for a set if anyone has any. Since the case was a standard case, I had to file the diameter of the dial about a bit less than a MM. or 1/32nd of an inch. That was a stressfull undertaking, but it worked. The dial was also too thick, so I had to sand the back down a hair, again stressful but according to the calipers and six measurments later it was also flat and flush. Setting the dial onto the movement was a bit difficult because the first time I didn't glue it on straight and it was crooked inside the case, so I made a jig. I basically took a square and made a cross on a piece of cardboard. With the crown stem installed to gather my bearings I managed to get it centred. Infact the cannon pin came straight through the centre hole perfectly centred. Oh the movement also needed a bit of work. Since it came with a second hand post, I had to take some fine side clippers and clip it down and then file it flush, also very stressful . Then I took a big ass drill bit and made a divot on the underside of the dial. Worked like a charm. I also used some Testors model laquer to give the dial a flat finish, and cover up any scratches. The hands went on easier than I thought. Hour hand sat deep on the hour hand gear. I used a pice of paper in between the dial and the hand so that there was at least that much space between the dial and hand. The minute hand also went on well, and to be honest it left me with plenty of room on the cannon pin to file it flush, however I forgot to do it and to be honest don't want to open it up and do it again...lol. I did scratch the hands a bit, but some black acrylic paint and a fine brush took care of that. The same paint was used on the side of the hands to cover up any luminove residue and make the hands look more genuine. Putting the movement an dial in the case was a bit of an undertaking because of the cleaning the glass issue. I won't type it all over again, but if anyone wants to read about the ordeal, look here. http://www.replica-watch.info/phpBB3/viewt...49&#p313649 Once it was all together and installed it was time to work the crown guard. The crown guard was too thick, and the end corners stuck up above the case where the case angles down towards the lugs, if you know what I mean. I took out the old bastard file and curved the ends of the crown guard to follow the lines of the case, so I got a thick crown guard and it fits flush to the case following the lines. Kind of resembles the genuine, since this was done on the top and bottom, and thus making the crown guard thinner where it meets the case and thicker at the outside end. The lever was also removed and had to be filed down where it meets the crown so that it closed, and now it locks up tight like a vault. I used the hot glue trick to stiffen up the crown guard as well. Once that was settled, I filed the pin flush and brushed the case, as the case was polished. I am waiting on a 201/A caseback I bought from one of our mates here on RWI and then it is complete. Right now I have that crappy MM caseback, but In a week it will be done. Here are a couple of pictures. Thanks for reading. Pietro

I bought a DSN PAM000 two weeks ago, It arrived well packaged and the like, with spring bars, etc etc. Well, the watch has issues as well such as scratched AR on the inside, there was a broken movement holder, stripped lug, pieces of metal floating inside the case, and a scratched hand. While he sent me pictures before hand, you couldn't notice these things. He did send out a replacement without any issues, however CANADA CUSTOMS decided that the watch was worth $1500 and wanted to charge me $287 in duties and taxes. I refused the watch and it is now back in HK. Davidsen is ems'ing it again to my Mates house. I have to agree. This is the first time I have bought from Davidsen, and what I think is that with NEW first time buyers he recycles his watches. Here is my theory. New time buyers get a recycled watch, or at the very least a recycled case. He sends it out with spring bars and an extra strap to make the new buyer think holy cow, ever cool. He also hopes that as newbies none of the flaws are noticed. for the one or two in ten that do notice he THEN bends over backwards and sends out a replacement watch, etc. Now while it sucks I really don't disagree with what he does, because, well hey you don't want to lose on returns. When you bring something back to the store they put it back on the shelf don't they? Utlimately I know that my watch that Davidsen will ship out to my friends house tomorrow will be the dogs [censored] (awesome for those that don't get that). Would I buy from Davidsen again, YES ABSOLUTLY 100%. What I would do differently is communicate more and let him know what I want, and how I want it. He told me in the email that the second one he is sending has a slightly different case and crown guard which isn't interchangeable with the first one. I have read that he uses both standard rep cases and his own now. The first one I got is definately one of his propriatary cases, and I can almost guarantee the replacement is going to be from his ultimate 111H which I believe is a standard rep case. BABOLA, I think you can chime in here and shead some light on this subject. DAVIDSEN is a great businessman, and like anyone in business is there for the bottom line, who cares that he recycles cases or watches, as he stands behind his item. With me he is losing money for sure because he has sent out a replacement once, now has to pay ems charges for the customs return to him and now ems charges again to send me the replacement. Again, I would DEFINATELY order again from Davidsen, and infact as soon as I get my proper PAM000 on my wrist I am considering ordering a 5218-201/A from him. Davidsen, if you read this, thanks again Mate.

Victoria... The watch took a lot of nicks on the case and scratches on the crystal. it was random looking, not as if you took a hammer to it, know what i mean? as for rugby...lol i play prop or flank. great postions. i used to play hook, but like the second row better. the maul is a great place to be. i have had many memorable moments there. lots of fun.

oh, and before i get labled because of my last post, i am not a juice head, nor a muscle head. i wear my ipod and mind my own business while i work out. i do enjoy eye candy though and makes the work out much quicker. i hate juice monkeys like i hate my mortgage, and many times i would like to drop a 45 pound plate on thier heads, but that is another story.

i do cardio, and lots of either free wieghts or hammer strength machines. i play rugby, so i have to focus on doing three sets of eight to ten reps of really heavy wieghts, to build mass and strength, that way i can tear the heads off the opposing team =) now i did wear a vintage marina militare last year whilst playing rugby so that i could vintage it quite quickly. that was fun.

Nil, I take off my watch at the gym. I work out quite aggressively and would not want to break it.

i am waiting to hear back on an issue too. not bashing the guy, but paid over three bills for a watch only to have some qc issues that shouldnt have been there in the first place, with the same answer, send it back? why not make sure it is good in the first place so we dont have to send back? seems pretty straight forward no? i also don't want to ship back. trying to work out something with him. he is a good guy though. so we shall see.

Hey all. I just bought a Logo Pam from one of our dealers. While the watch is great all around it has a couple of issues that boggle my mind. Firstly the hands did not have matching lume strenght, which is ok because the dealer has offered me a new set of hands. No biggie. The second is that the OP logo is crooked. Now it isn't crooked by much but nevertheless it is crooked. I asked about this, and was told that: 1. the PAM logo watches will no longer be produced so I should hang on to the watch, which is fine, and 2. all the Logo dials have been coming from the manufacturers like that. My question is, has anyone purchased a logo dialed watch recently from the major distributors on our site, and if so were the logo's crooked? now bear in mind that I really like the watch, and with the new set of hands can live with the crooked logo, I just want to make sure i am not being lied too.

i have just emailed andrew regarding the issues. lets see what his response is.

Just got my new PAM005 from Andrew. I will post pictures later, but here is a brief synopsis. All in all I am very happy. It came with the crown guard mounted upside down, and it freaked me out at first glance. It was also polished, so some scotch brite dulled it down. On the upside, It had a proper cannon pin, flush to the hands. Dial looked good, nice strap, nice case. On the downside, I had to grind down the lever as it was too long and wouldn't close, and when I attempted to close it, she wouldn't go, hence grinding it. It is running about six minutes too fast, so I regulated it down, and gave it a few gentle raps on my hand, so hopefully that takes care of that. The only other wierd thing is that the hour hand lights up like a light saber and the rest of the lume everywhere else is mediocre. Pietro

if they aren't deep, and what you can do in the mean time is get some emery cloth, and some fine sand paper and sand/buff them out. i had some dents in a crown guard on the edge that were mysteriously placed there when i took a pair of pliers to try to squeeze the lever and tighten it up. anyway, a bit of emery quickly buffed out the dent and the fine sand paper gave it the original finish. at this point you have nothing to lose because you have a new one coming.

I know which dealer slai is talking about, and his best bet is to ask for a refund. no ifs, ands or buts.
