The gen Speedy Pro is 42mm, not 40mm...it has incredible wrist presence!!!
-
I believe that you can get a new st-19 movement directly from alpha-watch.com
-
I'm actually going to replace my crystal as well since it seems to measure smaller than any of the Clark retaining rings. Strangely enough the 30mm of the crystal was big enough for the original retaining ring (MBK)
-
That is a great idea! Gary Clark was good enough to send me out a new crystal as well as entire bezel assembly, including retaining ring. Hopefully that will work...if not I will try other crystals.

American cars, did they ever make a good one?
sishac replied to dieselpower's topic in General Discussion
blanket statements like the original poster are simply arrogant and uninformed. I am sure that every manufacturer has made great cars and sucky cars. As the owner of a 1965 Mustang convertible I know that it isn't technologically advanced as a 190sl of the same year (its a Falcon for gods sake!) but it appealed to people and I can virtually guarantee that if I park my car next to a new 911 people are going to look past it to get an eyeful of my car. I don't think that anyone would argue that the British and the Italians make beautiful cars, but remember it took chicken farmer from Texas to make the shapely AC Ace into the car that beat Ferrari at his own game. -
Well, as my crystal (measured at the base with my digital caliper) measures exactly 30.00mm, I'm going to guess that is the problem...I wonder if maybe I got a mislabeled crystal? Thanks to everyone who commented, I appreciate the ideas and thoughts....I'll let you know how it turns out.

Do you by chance have the dimensions of a known clark t19? Like I said, I sent a Clark T19 to the watchmaker and he didn't tell me that he had to replace it due to cracking, so I assumed that is the crystal I have on the watch. I wonder if he replaced the crystal and just didn't say anything?
-
Thank you for the response....As far as I am aware, the crystal is a Clark t19 that I bought. Maybe replacing the crystal might be a way to go...the crystal seems to have a diameter of 30.00 mm around the base, while the Clark retaining ring is 30.1/30.2mm.

Well, this is supposed to be an MBW case, and I got it from a reputable source.....but, maybe there is a variation. I'm still hoping that I can find the original bezel (and I guess retaining ring) somewhere in my garage (it couldn't have just disappeared.) Thanks for the comments though... Tom

So I have this 5513 MBW that I recently put together with the help of one of the watchmakers here. I sourced the case (and old school 5513 "Polex" case), a 2846 movement, some Clark hands, a "refinished" dial from ebay, and a Clark crystal and sent it off. A few weeks later my watch was ready...it had been adjusted as well as waterproofed to 3ATM. I was a very happy camper. Fast forward a few weeks and I smacked my wrist (and watch) against something in my garage. A few minutes later I noticed that my bezel was missing. I have not yet found the bezel. Upon further review, I initially thought that the crystal retaining ring came off too...now looking at things I'm not so sure. What do you think? I ended up buying a Clark replacement bezel set which included the crystal retaining ring. The ring simply falls right over the crystal and isn't tight at all. In addition, the bezel doesn't click on without the retaining ring. So my question is this....is my retaining ring on the crystal? If it is, shouldn't the Clark bezel assembly (without the crystal retaining ring) snap onto the MBW retaining ring... Assuming that I am seeing things and the retaining ring is not on the watch in the photos, why wouldn't a Clark 5513 set fit? Do I need a gen bezel or MBW bezel to fit the MBW crystal retaining ring? The measurement of the crystal is less than the measurement of the inside of the Clarks retaining ring...I thought that it had to be like 0.4mm smaller to ensure a tight fit. Any suggestions would be helpful...I'm not sure what to do here.

I picked up a clarks bezel and insert package...it comes with a crystal retaining ring and tension ring...looking at my watch, the crystal retaining ring seems to be there, so I'll try to use everything else. Right now I just put on a cheap bezel from another sub...the kind with that silly plastic ring that goes around. It seems to be holding in on fine for the time being, and more importantely, I can wear the watch until the clark stuff arrives! Tom

I have a Dodo case...it is a hardcover case that makes it look/feel like a ledger book. check them out...I'm very happy with the case, it gives the ipad some substance.

That seems like a fair price....I'm really hoping that I can find it though as I wanted to wear it on vacation and in the ocean.

Well, about 3 weeks ago I received my "new" MBW 5513 from Speedy...he did a wonderful job putting together the old-school 5513 case, the clark crystal, the "gen" 704 rolex crown, my "gen" refinished dial (which I think might actually be right after really close observation...I think it is a serif feet-first) and my new 2846 eta movement....watch was regulated, and waterproofed...I've even taken it swiming!!! This morning I had to change the tire in my car and in the process I had to grab another tire from in my garage. As I pulled the tire up, I hit my wirst on the hood lip of another car...ouch...I got the tire and walked out. I then noticed that the bezel from my sub was gone. I have not yet been able to find it but am 99% sure it happened right there. If I can't find my bezel, what is the next best option (I know that gen should be an option, but that may be out of the pricerange).... Suggestions????
-
I just had some work done by Speedy, and he was quick, and reasonable but in Chicago. I would recommend him.
-
The dial fits (at least it sits in the case, and frankly looks amazing there too)...so it is a fake dial.....well, for what I paid for it, I'm not overly surprised. As I'm going to keep it (because I think it looks great and I'm not going to drop 500-800 on a gen matte dial), should I tell the seller???
-
RA is a gentleman and an artist!! I have a 1675 that he did for me a few years back and it is so nice it caused me to get a gen!!!! Beautiful watch! Wear it in good health!!!
-
Thank you everyone for your opinion....I was thinking of telling the seller that its a fake but as I am going to keep it as long as it fits my MBW case, maybe I won't...but for my own education, what is throwing things off? The "S" in submariner seems to be too curved, and the "6" are tilted a bit...but as each dial has so many variations, I would assume that it would be very hard to see inconsistencies and say for a fact its a fake. Thanks again for the education guys!!!

Well, then, as I liked Yuki's dials (and the price was very comparable to Yuki and Ingod44) ..this one came from FLA, and has some realistic lume on it....Are Yuki's 5513 dials 26mm or a hair smaller? In all honesty, I'm not too upset if it isn't a gen dial...to my novice eyes, it looks pretty good...in person the markers look beautiful and the printing is very crisp. My only issue is that I want to make sure that it fits and I don't have a movement yet to attach it too. Tonight I will try and just put it in the case and see what happens.

You mean like from Yuki or Ingod 44?

How many reps did you buy before you bought a Rolex rep?
sishac replied to Texas1999's topic in General Discussion
Technically my first rep, bought on the streets of Philadelphia in the early 1980s by my sister as a gift for me was my first rep....but then I bought a Sub rep in the vuccaria in Palermo in 2000, and finally a 1675 GMT (modded by RA) in 2008. Since then I've had a red sub, a 1655, a 5512 and I am in the starting stages of building a 5513 using a MBW case. I have no interest in modern Rolex (well, maybe a Miligas), but love the vintage stuff!!! -
Hi all..I am gathering the pieces for a 5513 build using a MBW case, Clark crystal and 2846 movement (still in transit) I just picked up this dial, advertised as a genuine dial that has been refinished. It has a slight glow to it (not tritium) and has Singer on the back. The feet seem to be in the right place. My issue is this...the dial seems to measure 25.7mm, and I have always heard that it should be 26mm. Is there a way to fit the dial in my case for testing without a movement?? Thanks

Looking for a Rolex Sports Model with a good preserving of worth
sishac replied to ArkoN's topic in The Rolex Area
I would go with either a 5513 or a 1680 (depending on whether she wants a date or not)...just remember to buy the seller and to buy quality. While a relumed dial or aftermarket crown is fine on a rep, when it comes to vintage rolex, you want all original...no aftermarket and as little service parts (at least ones that you can see...dial, hands, insert, crown, etc.) as possible. I will also throw in a 1675 into the ring for consideration because with the ability to have a Pepsi and all black bezel, you have almost two watches to choose from (plus, the 1675 are a thinner watch than the subs)..... Good luck, just remember to buy the seller.. There is nothing wrong with buying/wearing a rep, but you don't want to get a rep when you think you are buying gen!! Tom -
Where can I but a new 2846? And who is Smith? --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?d03350

Hi all, I have a 1655 with an Asian movement. I bought it from another forum member who got it from Andrew I believe. It has the vintage lume and date wheel. I have an extra dial with the white lume that I want to replace it with. My problem is the vintage date wheel...it will not match the white lume markers on the new dial. As it is the Asian 21 jewel movement I figure it makes sense to just put in a new movement with a white datewhel Can anyone tell me what movement is in the watch? Is is the dg2813 or is that just the non-gmt? Thanks
