I just bought this from a guy on another forum. I did so mostly to source the bracelet as the whole watch is costing me almost as much as a rep bracelet at Phong. That being said is there anything else that's worth saving from this piece according to you?
  2. Hello gavidoc, I've been PM'ing you for the details. That said I do not really care about chronology as of now. I just want a bracelet with correct endlinks then we'll see. I'd even go for a fakreplica bracelet provided it's well built and sturdy.
  3. Hi nanuq and first of all a big 'thank you' for yesterday's pics atop Mt. Baldy. They are truly inspirative. That being said I'm starting to get a little confused by all the names and acronyms. Mary is not affiliated in any way with MBW correct? I have read something about a chinese seller with a very good QC ratio, which name should be Mary, but can't remember where and when for the love of me...
  4. This is so very nice!! I'm going to take a look at VRF too, thanks a lot for the tip.
  5. I had forgotten about it... the old battered watch I had been given while serving my time in the army... it had not been used for at least twenty years for cause of being broken beyond repair (it fell from my pocket on a parachute jump) but I have always kept it with me as a reminder of things past Today I found a way to use it again or at least... parts of it... This is temporary as the endlinks are not right but I just wanted to get a taste of how this watch will look with a bracelet. Now on for a proper one.
  6. Just my 2ç obviously but I prefer Jubilee for smaller more stylish pieces like my 16014 An Oyster bracelet or a leather strap will according to my own personal taste better accomodate the Sub's sporty looks.
  7. Thanks Mapman. So a 9315 or 93150 with 585 endlinks will be ok; which means that the offers I see at Phong about "vintage 20mm Rolex" bands should fit the bill Would you recommend these particular items by Phong? I'm asking cause the pricetag is quite hefty and I would really hate getting ripped off on a metal bracelet if you see what I mean
  8. Thanks a lot Panerai. I'm gonna have to start taking notes Sooo... the engraving on the inside of my caseback says II 67 which, if I'm not wrong means that the watch was built on the second half of the year 1967. One of the last with an A390 Rolex (by Feb) movement... . I therefore assume that the 9315 you're telling me about would be correct That said if I go looking for a 9315/93150 do I need to make sure it's got a particular set of endlinks?
  9. Ok this is something I need to ask: Let's pretend I get an SD dial and it fits inside the case and all that jazz. How do I get rid of the "SPACE DWELLER" extra line? And one more thing : I have been visiting NDT and - correct me if I'm wrong - they sell gen parts and watches built with gen parts. Am I wrong? It's not very clear...
  10. I surely will. Now all I have to do is wait... and wait... and...
  11. Hi Mapman and thanks for replying, You know what... I'm not much of an expert and I have no contacts with the watches world so I would not really know where to go and what to look for. I'd therefore feel more comfortable with a "ready made" solution which would spare me the hassle of having to look for parts I know strictly nothing about... let's add to that the fact that I do not have too much free time to take care of my hobbies and you've got the picture... Thanks a lot for the advice tho'!
  12. Thanks a lot Akira! That's exactly what I was looking for and furthermore we're even "neighbors" as I live in Italy
  13. Thanks Cjjoyce. Yuki's bracelet is precisely the one I got an advice for. Unfortunately it is no longer available on their site and there are no hints as to when (and if) they will ever have any more up for sale.
  14. As I have been writing on another post I am waiting for Andrew to send me a vintage 1601 Explorer. He proposes a beautiful "super precision" version which (obviously) lacks the patina of time. I have been coming accross the name of "Domi" while Googling away on the subject of "vintagizing", but this is about everything I could gather on this individual. Who does this kind of jobs in EU? Any further information/pointer/advice/offer will be vastly appreciated
  15. Hi all, I am trying to find a vintag(ized)e bracelet for my Tudor Submariner 7928/0. I do not know where to look and the places I could have been picking one have none available. Can someone offer any pointers and/or does by any chance have one lying around they'd care to sell? Thanks in advance! Lorenzo
  16. I just got an email from Andrew; the 1016 is ready to ship and it's going to be one of those with the "super precision" inscription on the dial. As such this reference can be dated back to the late fifties or early sixties. It needs to be "vintagized", is there anyone doing this kind of things in EU?
  17. Thanks a lot mate! The clasp can be changed can't it? But it currently is back-ordered... everything I look at since I'm in this forum is either not sold anymore or in back-order or long gone or... wtf?!
  18. This is my gen 1967 diver. I am hunting high and low for a bracelet like the one you got. Would you care to let me know where I can buy one too?
  19. Thanks for sharing Chuck... I hope I'm gonna be able to say that my Exp I is awesome too Would you care to post a couple of pics of your new baby? Just curious.
  20. Hello and thanks to all those which chimed in with their comments, you're being plenty helpful! After thinking the matter over for a while and having pondered a number of possibilities, I have decided to give Trustytime a chance; I have just ordered their vintage Exp I after obtaining a "go" from Andrew in regard to the item's availability. Let's see what I get. Of course I consider this as a starting point but I hope I'm not going to be disappointed.
  21. I have been visiting Yuki's site a few minutes ago. The only truly beautiful "vintage" Exp I dial I saw is backordered and judging from what they wrote in the notes is not going to be back in stock anytime soon.
  22. Hello and thanks a lot for the welcome, highlights and pointers. I have been visiting the Trusty Time site and I effectively find the 1601 rep there to be (at least on picture) quite good. I have just been enquiring about the availability of the piece and hopefully will receive a positive answer that will allow me to place an order. I also have tried PM'ing JMB and am currently waiting for an answer from him if he will care to. For what is about assembling a watch by myself... let's say that each individual has got his own skills, handicraft is not one of my assets, I am fairly satisfied with having learnt to fit a bracelet/strap on a watch without scratching it (too much)... That said I keep reading avidly because I am curious and convinced that knowledge, any kind of knowledge, is power. Cheers Lorenzo
  23. I'm replying to my own questions... As it seems I had not been looking long and hard enough. I found JMB! Unfortunately in one of his posts last September he states that he's going to take a break from building 1016 reps... My usual luck...
