no this uses a 26.5mm dial. Cartel's use a 26mm

Well you can not buy just the case. You need to get the whole watch and either sell off the movement and/or use the movement in other projects. for me I have been robbing the movements and using them on projects and since the subs are not really that great I figured the DJ would be the next best thing and they are. They are awesome as long as you have the right parts. I started off on the wrong foot by trying to install a 2836 not realizing there is a big difference. And if your using a 3035 case you can use either movement no problem. 3135 is a different set up as far as dimensions are concerned. 

I plan on using the case and movement and using my gen 14270 dial. I don't have the heart to cut the dial feet to use it on a ETA movement.

On a side note and for those who build up DJ reps. The SA3135 DJ case set is the next best thing to gen. I will do a mini review soon. I am getting a gen 16200 to compare and show you guys. Well worth buying one and parting it out

which TD sells them? Been searching for a gen 16200 for a while but I can't seem to find one for a decent price.

I seem to be going through the same thing on my newly put together project. Crown is the 702 athaya rep. Movement is NOS 2846

Great advice. Athaya's crowns are amazing. I just put one on my snowflake build. Coincidently I will be receiving a PT 1680 that I purchased from m2m. Glad I ordered an extra crown from Adrian

It depends on how much you can score the gen case and dial for. If you are patient, you can score a good deal on ebay.

For a lower budget build, you can use a JMB 2824 slim Datejust case and use a gen dial.

Don't set the time in reverse.

Got my Datejust back today and I am extremely pleased. Thanks again to mymanmatt for putting this build together.

I hate the fact that I stumbled into this thread. I have been wanting a decently built 1016 for a while but I have too many projects ongoing in the watch box. I have spent a few sleepless nights looking for a decent homage and the only one I found is rarer than a gen 1016 (RXW Expievo).

Lol... bleach works well. Too well. What people didn't tell me was sun played a factor. Dip it in bleach, in the sun and take it out every 3-5 minutes and put it in water. Try it and report back here

2783 has the same feet location as a 2824/2836/2846? I alwqys thought it was different.

List of tells?

-No serial number on case

-No rehault engraving

-Crystal?  No AR?  Magnifier is off?

-Gen hands would turn counter clockwise when you turn crown clockwise?

-Metal color off slightly

-Insert.  Pearl is off?

-Do you pull the bands off of your watch and show people between the lugs? Even with a NATO band, it is still difficult to see the engraving.

 

-As for the no rehaut engraving, it shouldn't have any. This is based off of the mid series run that had no lug holes, rehaut engraving and definitely no AR.

-You can't tell unless you have a gen right next to it. Your only other alternative is a gen midcase made out of 904L

 

-Vintage Caddell Insert is the best aftermarket insert. Even the back of it is gen like.

 

-SEL - Aside from the SEL the link right after the SEL is off. The middle part sticks out too much. I already contacted TC about this and emailed him pictures of examples.

I recently received this Cartel 1680 with a a2836 and I was wondering if I can convert it to a 5513 with a new dial and a t19? Between the lug on the 12:00 side has ORIG POLEX DESIGN 5513 and on the 6:00 side, it says STAINLESS STEEL L341175. I was thinking of getting ETA 5513 Yuki dial and hands.
