This is the route I went as well. You will probably need a movement ring for your new  case. You can either buy the Yuki one for whatever they charge or modify the Silix one if you already have it. Its outer diameter needs to be decreased quite a bit, and slots need to be cut for the stem and movement tabs.

These movements can be scavenged from out-of-vogue 50s and 60s dress watches fairly cheaply. One thing to be aware of is the hand height. The movement you get might have fairly short hand posts if it was in a small thin watch, but you will need to be able to clear the lume plots on your dial. I had this issue and it was hell getting it resolved.

The raffles 2824 ring is perfect and needs no mods. Only the 2836 rings (that are taller) need to be notched.

Nice, this is becoming a nice otb watch

Such a bargain NOW compared to the last TC offering. It honestly is a great watch for the price. If I have a gen 16610, it would remain in the safe and I would waterproof this and wear it carelessly.

All it needs now is a new caseback gasket (the one that comes with it is so thin and does nothing for water resistance) - Same with all of the previous JF 16610 versions.

I don’t think you need to spend $150 on a gen date wheel, you can get an awesome aftermarket one on eBay... but bear in mind, the gen or aftermarket datewheel will need a very fine sanding to match the JF datewheel size, else the quickset date function won’t work.

which aftermarket one is that? I saw a few on the bay and that doesn't look half bad.

Any experts chime in on how much better a tc v7 case is on a build like this vs the JF 16610?

It is worse. The 3135 and 3135 clone fit loosely in the case. You have use really long movement tabs and bend them in a weird shape to secure the movement in the case. The JF is much better in this regard plus it is engraved between the lugs.

I have this same version in transit to me. After owning 3 of these JF's and going crazy on one build upgrading damn near everything from the dial, crystal and insert, crown etc.., I have found that for me, the only upgrades this needs is a gen datewheel and a gen insert. Everything else is good enough for me.

Is it difficult to change the insert on this watch ?

I've always been able to do it by hand. Pop the bezel off the watch and push the insert out from the bottom. There is a youtube video out there on how to do it.

Check out these IG accounts for pictures of different colored inserts. Some are photoshopped but nice none the less
