  1. Ok, just wondering about an obvious answer to this problem of all the good deals in the US.

Would any of our well known US friends here be willing to let me ship an eBay purchase to them, and then ship it to me in the good 'ol UK?

This would be for a B&L stereoZoom4, refurbished inc stand so wouldn't be light or small, I'm not sure how much US > UK postage would be?

    MD2020? MOAB?

  2. Received mine today. Movement quality on first glance seems OK, typical chinese movement.

They are definitely jewels on the rotor. Only small ones so they don't bother me, although jewels doesn't really equal the "Steam Punk" look the seller was promoting!

The crown only sets the hands, and only clockwise at that. No winding - has to be wound by the rotor. No discernable AR front or back. Strap is your typical very cheapo affair. Case reasonably well made, although the 12 screws that are around the bezel are not aligned up like the sample image the seller I bought from used. Screw down crown, and who knows how good the threads are!

Interestingly the bezel is quite a bit thinner than the pictures and screws are smaller. Makes it look more delicate, which as I bought it because I liked it's chunky bezel looks, is a bit of a let down.

So after getting it and having a look, I still like it, bargaintastic for a rather odd throwaway beater :)

    Piccys coming later.

  3. This one has ABS and DTC (Ducati traction control) and you can even turn down the engine power for when its wet & slippy, so even I should be safe on it lol!

I get it this weekend and on Thursday and Friday I've got 2 trackdays on it. They were going to be on the 10R but, oh well, they're now on this.

Yes, I'll be taking it nice and easy!! Crash bungs for the front forks, frame and swing arm have been ordered just in case.

Hike, that's a lot of bikes in just 6 months, how many do you have in total? Or are you a serial bike swapper? :)

  4. I've seen this a few times in US international auctions / buy it nows.

The easy thing to do is message the seller and say you want to buy it, let them know eBay are trying to rip them and you off, and how much to buy & postage outside of eBay?

This has worked loads and loads of times. I've never ever had anyone say "Oh, but that's evading eBay fees!" - everyone is sick of eBay and their fees.

Lots of business sellers put their website in their auctions so again I just go to their website, if the price is dearer on their website just email / phone them and say you want to buy XYZ for the price they're selling it for on eBay, again, everyone I've done this with has been happy to do so.

I do buy loads of stuff through eBay properly, but only if its a straight forward auction with no rip off hidden fees like this.

  5. Anyone seen this movement before?

    Posted Image

    Automatic too.

I spotted it on the 'bay from an HK seller (shipping from Germany oddly enough). Cheap as chips, £25, so ordered one out of curiosity :)

Will pull it to bits when it get it and take some photos.

  6. I almost died in 2001 and have a knackered left wrist and an artificial knee, took 4 years to get my leg to heal.

Absolutely loved biking before that, but haven't found the right bike since. The 10R is great fun but with my knackered wrist I can ride it much, got a Tenere XT660Z which is a good bike but only 60bhp or so. Great for pootling along but lacks power for making progress, I.e. nipping past traffic.

Also got a KTM 400 EXC which I've bought back to a half decent state but there ain't many roads round here I can ride it on.

Hopefully this will be the one :) I miss having a good bike that's also comfy enough for a days riding.

It's too easy to build up loads of bikes isn't it? :)

  7. I went and saw this bike a couple of weeks ago, and eventually got around to booking a test ride on it on Saturday.

    God it's fun :)

Ducati Multistrada 1200 S touring, 2011, 150bhp, V twin, electronic suspension, ABS, traction control, and boy does it go like stink.

I'm actually part ex-ing a faster bike, 2006 ZX10R (180bhp) which I've had for 5 years but have never been totally comfortable with. Never been able to put my finger on it, but just doesn't feel "good" to me, I think because I'm very tall and I sit "on" it rather than "in" it - I've used max revs + max throttle on only a handful of times on the 10R.

This thing, whilst being just as fast, throttle wide open within 2 minutes of the test ride, love it :)

So the £11700 cost may curtail my purchase of reps for a few months... never mind, can't take it with you when you die.

  8. I'm not talking bright sunshine here but a high powered laser pointer.

    400mW purple laser pointer.

I've got a few pointers, reg, green, blue and purple, ranging in power from 5mW upto 1.8W.

Just found out that the purple one is a Lume paint brush!

It instantly makes the Lume glow like hell, honestly it looks like you're painting Lume on with a brush.

I can defocus the beam so its about 5mm round (oval actually as its TEM 1) so it's not that focused it'll burn the lume, but I'm still worried that it'll damage it somehow.

    Any lume experts know?

I'll take some pics this weekend of shiney happy watches, all in a row.
