  1. It is possible that the lubrication is either too thin or too thick, so when the viscosity changes at lower temperatures, the friction goes up too much. If all other functions are normal at standard temps, a lubrication service by your local watchsmith will likely fix things. It should be done professionally, if you elect to do it yourself read up as much as possible in the forums + online resources on 6497/6498's, and proceed carefully. Best---
  2. Hmm, okay watcher, not sure what you meant or were on about. GhostStar: THANK YOU for getting the real answer! I didn't want to end up with extra stuff I wouldn't use. So it's gen bracelet, it's still a very clean look, just hoped to save a little money at least. worse, the more I go back to the iwc site the better the yacht club editions are looking, and for those it'd be back to rubber straps. New direction perhaps. Happy Holidays to all!
  3. watcher: I am interested to know if your bracelet fits the gen. Two weeks ago you had an order on its way, and you were very adamant and positive that the bracelet would fit the gen. (You were so sure you called me out on it!) If it does fit, I am ordering one for my gen xvii, the whole watch is cheaper than the bracelet alone from iwc. Please let us all know, I'm sure you and I are not the only ones with gens who are tired of the stock iwc strap. The bracelet looks much sharper! Thanks!
  4. +1AstroAvia, yes it is. To the right (rotated clockwise)
  5. +1Astrovia, yes it is. To the right (rotated clockwise).
  6. The parts may fit together between movements, so some units may be hybrids of parts.
  7. Sometimes factories may use a 2836 unit and just not use the day of the week function if the rep doesnt need it.
  8. 2836 and 2824 are same size, both are time and date. 2836 added day of the week function. 2824 is 28.8kbph, 2836 is 28.6kbph.
  9. I hope I'm wrong, don't want to be giving bad news. Ask Angus-- it was a discussion I think where to others' surprise, he stated it would not fit, which is why it stuck in my mind.
  10. I think someone said that this rep case and bracelet does not fit gen XVII, the lug width and pin position are different.
  11. I was just going from IWC's press release claim that they werent simply modding ETA's, possibly propaganda, as they've been touting in-house movements across their entire line. If anything, the entry level models probably still are ETA at their core.
  12. Based on the case, hands and date window, that appears to be the 2813 21j model. If so, it may not fit together with an eta movement, others have looked at how it all fits together (such as the hands onto the cannon/center pin), and even the crown sits at a different height in the case vs an eta2892 per the gen. It may be quite a task. In terms of adjusting the markers, it can be done, just be careful when you remove the crown or you'll end up with keyless works.
  13. Correction to my earlier comment, starting 2006 and finishing conversion 2010, IWC stated that they stopped using ETA2892A2's as the basis for their calibre 30110. Also, the other post asked about the cheaper version xvii. It doesn't use the 4813 I wrote about, but it uses the 2813 apparently, which is a 21 jewel, 21,600bph movement. Accuracy can be good, depends on how you maintain it, etc., there are many mixed opinions depending on who you ask, but most agree gens and gen swiss movements are best (not so much the re-used swiss returns in many newer reps).
  14. There are differences between the cases, needles/hands, font (different/much lighter on the cheaper one) and the datewheels. I remember reading that discussion on another forum, that this was made by a different factory. Comparing the pics side by side it looks similar, but then compared with gen, the more expensive version rep is much closer to gen. The movement in the cheaper one (if it is the 4813) is an overdriven 21-jewel 2813. They work fine from people have said. The 2892 is closer to what iwc gets directly from eta and mods into their in-house movement for the xvii.
  15. Welcome to the forums mosyzlak :)
