  1. Okay, just recieved my Noobmariner LV A21J from a fellow member. Its unused before me, is it

normal for this piece of movement (im aware its not the best) to drop about 15min/24hours?

    Thanks in advance!

The movement probably needs the timing regulated/adjusted. It is possible to adjust an A21j to +0.02 seconds over 24 hours (I've done this myself with nothing more than a small screwdriver, and comparison to a digital clock) but it does require a little watch knowhow. See how the watch behaves over several days. If it constantly loses 15m per day, that is actually a good sign, as it shows that the movement is working consistently, so can simply be adjusted accordingly :) It's when the loss or gain becomes erratic that it could indicate a mechanical problem with the movement :) Best of luck :good::drinks:

  2. Just to let folks know, I never received anything or heard anything from the 'seller', so armed with the information so kindly provided by Stormtrooper4, I've set the hounds of PP dispute on them. I know we're taking chances here, and I know our hobby is not entirely legal, but I won't stand for outright deception and stolen pics, so this guy deserves whatever he gets (losing my $78 :victory: ) I'll keep you all posted as to the progress of the claim :)

  3. Ah thanks guys, this is what happend to a few other chinese gadgets I've bought as well in that they just randomly stop functioning. Its unfortunate as I figured one using an OS created by someone else might push its quality ahead a bit more.

I know what you mean, but sadly, the OS is sill relying on a Clone phone battery, which for some reason, don't have a very good lifespan (strange, as that's where mainstream batteries come from too :g: ) It would be nice if there were some genuinely reliable iClones out there, as they are pretty fun phones, but I think for what they cost anyway, you're better off adding a few extra bucks to the fund, and scour eBay for a pre-Owned. That's what I did, and got an 8GB 2G iPhone just over two years ago. When I got it, it was 6 months old, had only ever been used in a silicone sleeve and with a screen protector, so was in mint condition. I got a good 18 months at least out of it before it finally started acting up (I'm still living in hope it can be repaired when I can spare the cash) so I'd definitely recommend that option, if you can find one in good condition when you buy it :good::drinks:

  4. I've been talking to a couple of guys about ideas for modding the 214270 rep. Reluming in blue would be straightforward enough, but it might be possible to spray-matte the dial. I'm not sure if you would need to mask the applied markers, or if you could just wipe them off after. If someone mods it successfully, then I'll gladly copy what they did!

Don't get me wrong, though: I think the rep looks fantastic as-is. My holding out for a V2 or Ultimate is just an excuse for being cheap.

The easiest thing to do, is to carefully remove the applied markers (edge of a post-it note does the job well) then spray the varnish, then replace the markers :) They're just 'pin and hole' fitting, so no need for epoxy when replacing them :good:

  5. TJ, I realize it might be difficult for some members depending on their location, but this where GTG's come in really handy. It's a great opportunity to meet other members as well as "test" out different watches :D

When I went to Toronto and met with Toadtorrent and Andreww I got an opportunity to try on Andreww's Navitimer and I fell in love with it. I couldn't stand the look of it before based on the pictures I had seen, but in person it is a marvelous watch.

That's very true, I really regret that I haven't been able to make any of the GTGs yet as they do sound like a fantastic time all round, and a great opportunity to try out new watches :)

  6. I wrote a review on an iPhone clone a year or so ago. In terms of are they worth getting, I would say that if you just want 'a phone', then yes, they do the job. But. I've found battery life to be pretty shabby (in terms of the battery not holding a charge for long, after a few months) If you're after a smartphone, I'd suggest just saving for the real thing, as they're much better than the clones in terms of both durability and functionality, so better overall value for money :)

  7. I tried the gen on recently. It's very nice in the metal, and a surprisingly big improvement over the two previous generations of the Explorer. The only thing I don't like is the length of the hands: they're too short.

The rep looks good. Major flaws are the dial finish (glossy, not matte) and lume color (green, not blue). Less significant are the crystal height (slightly too high), and the overall shape of the case, though that's a common complaint with pretty much every Datejust rep.

Seeing the comparison pictures, I definitely agree that the hands are too short. Infact, seeing the comparisons, I would say that the Explorer just looks oversized. Not as in a large watch which is supposed to be large, but simply one which is too big (possibly because of the issue with the hands) As for the dial finish, well, that's nothing a little matte varnish can't cure, then a trip to the spa for a relume in blue :good: (of course, pretty redundant to perform mods on a watch which just 'feels wrong' to start off with :D )

  8. These watches cost $150-500. I think you can just buy them and if you don't like them, easily sell here with not huge loss.

The cost is irrelevent, I was just thinking that it might allow people the opportunity to try a watch without having to buy it first, and equally, possibly simply borrow something for a few days such as a dress watch or the like, but as pointed out, as with the pass around watch, the idea would probably be more trouble than it's worth :pardon:

  9. There used to be a "pass around watch" but it got abused as well, unfortunately. I think it's a great idea personally, unfortunately there are always those who will mess it up for everyone else.

I trust you TeeJay....if you want to borrow one of my watches, you are welcome to! :D

Yeah, it's a real shame that the PAW never lasted, but as you say, sadly there's always those who spoil it for others... :wounded1: Thanks, and likewise, you're always welcome to borrow anything in my watchbox :drinks:

  10. Well, this is what I figured, there is certainly the potential for abuse, but, I figure if there were rules, such as no international shipping (unless the borrower agrees to replace the watch if there is any customs issues) it might be feasible for members who're established within the community :) Of course, it was just an idea I figured I'd throw out for discussion :)

  11. I was thinking, I know that everyone here helps each other out, and I know that in the past, people have lent each other watches for one reason and another. Something else I was thinking about, is supposing someone really needed a watch for a special occasion, or just wanted to test run a model before purchassing, I wondered if it might be cool to have an "I'd like to borrow..." section? Someone could post their requirements, and people in a position to hook them up, could respond with an offer. What do people think? I figured it should be an 'edit free' section, like with the sales, so there could be no "He said this, he said that" BS which could spoil such a thing for others. I'm not suggesting that someone necessarily post "I'd like to borrow [insert member name here]'s DSSD to see how it feels," But maybe a "I'm looking to buy a DSSD and would like to try one on for a few days, can anyone hook a brother up?" or "I'm going to a wedding next Thursday and desperately need a dress watch for the occasion, can anyone help?"

What do people think? Yay, nay? :pardon:

  12. As much as I don't want to, I'm going to change them to the proper style.

I want it to look as original as possible, and because the minute hand is about an inch too short, it kinda drives me nuts

I guess if you're not feeling it, best to go with the original setup :) Fantastic watch regardless of the hands :good:

  13. I got a 16030 that had a rusty movement that was removed. I had everything except the hands and movement. I installed an ETA2836 from my 16600 super sea-dweller and everything lined up perfect inc the datewheel. Some dial dots and a home made spacer with the factory ETA clips and screws... It went to together with absolutely no problems. Stem height is ever so slightly off but its close enough to work freely, and no problems with the canon pin in regards to hand clearance.

Date lines up perfectly all the way through the month. Ignore the old MBW 16610 hands. its all I had at the time that were white. As soon as I locate some nice ETA datejust style hands, it will be complete. Then I deceide if Im going to keep it or not. Might do a black dial instead on a Yuki rivet, then it would be something I would wear.

    16000 series case takes ETA2836

    1600 older series takes ETA2824

Although it does look a little "sporty" with the mercedes hands...

Fantastic DJ, and while I wouldn't say the mercedes hands put it fully into the 'sporty' category, it's certainly given the watch a bit more 'oomph' than the standard DJ fittings :good:
