O.k. lanikai, I'll have lunch and throw up some side by side shots. They are your pics of your new watch so I would not have touched them without your permission.

It's 12:00pm Tuesday here atm and I'm on hoidays, so I have plenty of time.

    Talk to you soon.

  2. Wow, I've got a gen crystal that would look great in one of those.

Congratulations lanikai, that's nice. I know there are keener eyes than mine here, but I like the vintage Rolex's a lot.

The crown guards look pretty good as well; I like the way the top curve / ends of the CG's are flat with well defined sharp edges.

Why don't you post your 1680 and a Gen side by side?

  3. thanks greystash - good reply!

the price difference is considerable and the service cost is a real issue for me. I would much prefer the mechanical but just cant afford it. Perhaps i should save a bit harder! SNIP

If you can afford to buy a Quartz, you can afford the Mechanical, it's just a matter of time.

dudeman, it seems clear to me that you have answered your own question. You much prefer the mechanical so that is what you should save for; or forget luxury watches altogether.

Do you want to look at your watch and be reminded of what you settled for?

Or do you want to look down, smile, and be proud of what you've earned?

  4. Hey Dudeman,

It's come down to a number of intangible things including romance and history.

Some people like the fact that their watch is fully mechanical and void of all electronics and batteries. They like the idea that their watch is a living breathing piece of art that has both a proven pedigree and a rich history.

Even though the mechanical watch requires servicing every five years or so, some people just love the sound of the second hand beating eight times in one second and the knowledge that if all technology fails, as long as they keep ticking so will their watch.

Then there is the Quartz which in itself is an incredible achievement. Most would argue that a Quartz is by far the superior time keeper, they are in most cases more accurate than their mechanical counterparts. They lack the soul of the mechanical watch however and I think this is the crux of the debate.

I think I remember someone putting it like this, if you love the romantic heritage and you're not pedantic about the exact time and you want a pet watch, buy a mechanical. If however you want a very accurate no fuss time keeper, buy the quartz.

Mechanicals are the type of watches that get passed on from father to son. Which is why I bought a 2254.50.

  5. The CG's in you last pic simply look neater and sharper that when you started. The fact that they are more accurate now seems less important then the fact that they look professionally finished; neat and proper.

So great job and an excellent eye for detail freddy.

Opps EDIT: I just realised the last pic was a gen. :1a:

I'd like to see another shot of the CG's that is angled so we can see further into the corner where you did the work.

  6. No my friend, It's definitly a rep on the pic, but a very good one.

you can Believe that, I humbly have a pretty good knowledge of this watch.

The question is: Is this rep still on the market?

I ordered it to check it out.

    I'll give feedback allright.

No matter if I'm scammed or not...

This is the pic from the official Omega web.

    And this is Francisco's pic.

I was about to type they are the same pic but...look at the crown diameter on both watches.

  7. It takes away from the classic sub style. Bad move I think.

EDIT: Now that I’ve had time to mull it over, I don't think it’s a move against counterfeiting. For one the etched crown on the crystal is an example of Rolex thinking about subtle design and secondly, the rep manufacturers are already tooled up to do this type of work.

They must want to bring the Subs and the GMT’s a little closer together, or could it be it may cost Rolex less in the manufacturing process some how. I don’t know much about the GMT’s are the cases similar to the subs?

  8. Thanks Sporty...I was wondering if anyone would get to that. :good:
Sorry mjmurphy926, for the rant/hijack. I'm just astounded that I the term super could be attached to any sub that has anything but correct CG's.

The photos are identical. You can overlay them and nothing moves but the watermarks.

  9. It's absolute madness that Crown Guards are still an issue on new Sub Reps. Trim the guards...trim the guards, how can this message not be getting to the machine shop floor? <_<

A real super rep will be the first sub case to actually have correct model CG's.

  10. Hey Guys,

I wanted to give something back to RWG.

Someone recently asked me about Pin removal and I have seen the question come up a few times.

So here is my shot at the answer for an Omega Seamaster Pro 2254.50.00. :D I hope it's helpful.
