  1. Also it seems to me that the gap between the horizontal edge of the 12 triangle and the end of the second marks, is too narrow. That gap should be about the same as the gap between the circles and the end of the second marks.

The height of the crown leaps out at me now that you mentioned it. I still think the date is too small though.

  2. This site is all about spreading knowledge about watches. The people here are gooooooooooooood. No detail is too small to be overlooked and no reference too obscure.

Well done! Another one bites the dust.

@Greystash, read everything you can find here. Information is what you need.

    Oh, and BTW ... welcome!

Thanks for the welcome there Nanuq. Yes, just testing my own eye for the subs, from what I have already learned.
  3. Would it help if we posted stuff like this?...(pug's pic)
Nice work there Pugwash....are they yours???

Two things that frustrate me the most about the reps of the modern Sub and S.D are of course, the CG's in general and the HEV on the SD. Haven't seen a convincing HEV yet; they almost got it but it was clearly the wrong color.

What boggles my mind and inspires all form of conspiracy theories is the fact that, the Sub case has changed little in nigh on four decades, yet a rep with perfect CG's does not exist. How can the latest Rep of the Tag Carrera be that close to the original, yet something so obvious as CG's on a sub be botched again and again??? (Sorry, it's and old chestnut and not in the Rolex section....no response necessary)

Hey Ken and Robert, thanks for the welcome. :D

  4. VIP members (paying members) have the ability to edit posts. Notice the extra button at the bottom of my post. Another reason to join up. ;)
No I can't even SEE the button on anyones posts  ....Looks like edit buttons are even more secretive than oem speced-out sub cases. :g:

Don't worry, if this latest interest of mine is not just a flash in the pan, it will be VIP for me.

  5. Warm welcome
Hey thanks Tribal....another familiar name from my searches.

Welcome. Always a pleasure to come across a new member who spends the time to get acquainted with the goings on before throwing themselves to the wolves.
Oh, and here I was just about to (shill-style) ask TTK to YELL me a map to the Shangr la. :Jumpy: (LOL....Just Kidding)

While I may be new here, I am no stranger to forums and their unique social dynamic. :bicycle:

To be honest, if my interest holds, I would like to start my frankensub with a gen case rather than a MBW....and that of course relies on measure pot luck.

    Cheers Kruser00.

  6. welcome to RWG greystash

i never cease to be amazed at the skills and knowledge of those found here on RWG. while it is intimidating at first, soon you'll find yourself understanding more and more....

    Thanks deltatahoe.

have fun learning; i think you'll find that upgrading to VIP is a worthwhile cause -- it will bring your understanding to a whole new level
Hint, hint, loads of good stuff, hint, hint.
    Thanks guys....noted.
  7. Hey guys,

I have been hammering the search button here for a while now and I thought it was time to say hello. ;)

I was originally attracted here by my fondness for the Subs; I was pleasantly surprised to find a healthy watch modding community.

Being a hands-on guy I love to tinker and I think the tiny little machine that is an Automatic movement, is really a thing of beauty.

I would love to have a go at building a Frankensub at some stage. Problem is I probably wouldn

  8. Nickel plated ETA? Yup.

Make sure the dealer is advertising an ETA 2836 and not an "Asian ETA Copy" or similar.

    Hey Pugwash, thanks for that.

So you just have to check carefully in each case (full pun ;0) because of the variation of the builds in the market. Ok I get it; it's not as easy as sub-X has this movement and sub-Y has....etc. The seller becomes a key factor. Thanks

  9. Good movement, all advertised as ETA 2824 / 2836 have it. Doesnt matter where its made its an ETA movement.
Thanks for that watchman12345. Do I understand correctly, there is also a silver ETA-2836 out there of the

same quality? Or are you saying if the term ETA is used, when you remove the back you are going to see this gold movement?

From the searching I have done I get the impression it could be either, depending on your source. This is not a thread about which is better rather the frequency of both; in what model subs etc, based on what people have received.

  10. Hi guys,

I've been lurking here a while and my interest automatic movements has grown. :victory:

I have a question for those that are experienced with the various subs.

How many subs actually have a 2836 of this quality???

    252198-7251.jpg

I believe it is this movement, that has been argued here (esp by The Zigmeister) to be actually, in some part manufactured in Switzerland; is this correct? I understand that this is a good movement?

The first rep I got my hands on was from good old gelena shitinerand, I died laughing when I read that inside the case back. :0)

    Cheers :thumbsupsmileyanim:
