  1. OK guys,

I am done; I took a lot of the comments given to me by you in my last thread and incorporated it into this watch. Please continue, tell me how I can make it better.

This watch is based on a used Noob 127 bought on this forum, the previous thread was a prototype based on a DSN. I used the case, dial, hands, crystal, bridges, and all movement components were from the stock Noob. The only exceptions were the mainplate, incabloc, dagger, ratchet and crown wheel. I tried to keep any gen. part to a minimum, when I say gen. I mean ETA components not Panera, no Panerai parts were used on this build, but enough talk let’s get to the pictures…

    And now the back…

Here you can see the balance wheel that come with the ETA or Swiss 6497, you can also see the flat dagger regulator, for some reason they are flat on the Noob movement. This is not the case on the gen. 127, it is the same thickness as the swan neck.

    List of MODS:

    1. ETA Movement mainplate

    2. Changed ETA balance wheel for rep. for more gen. look

    3. Used Noob bridges

    4. Changed thin dagger regulator with thick Noob dagger that comes with their Genève movement

    5. Used eta barrel gears

    6. Polished ratchet and crown wheel bevels (later replaced with gen.)

    7. Replaced incabloc shock system with Y incabloc

    8. Tightened CG lever and recessed pin

    9. Cleaned, oiled and adjusted

    10. Shaved down and refinished CG

    Only gen. (ETA) parts are:

    1. 6497-1 mainplate

    2. Polished barrel gears (ratchet and crown wheel)

    3. Incabloc shock system

I am also modding up a Pam 253 and I am looking to buy a used Noob 217 to do next.

Thanks for looking, and give me some more comments on how to better this watch.

  2. UPDATE:

There has been some talk about polishing the bridges, well I sacrificed a Noob bridge to test this. The result is, the platinum plating is very very thin and will not stand proper polishing to a hight luster. Trying this will get you down to the brass and you will have a yellowish hue with high luster along side the factory platinum plating.

In conclusion, don't believe the hype DO NOT TRY THIS!!! it will ruin you bridges. Besides its not that bad straight from the factory.

Won't be doing this on super mod watches, not worth it.

    Thanks for looking.....

  3. Just got a couple of Noob 6497-2 movements from wOlf today and took the time to tweak them up a little. Pretty close to gen. (thanks wOlf)

I'm thinking that maybe the balance wheel looks a little small compared to gen. any thoughts on that? I have a bigger one I could swap out. Also found the dagger regulator to be a bit longer than gen. although it is the same thickness as the swan neck, a huge bonus compared to other asian movements. The only thing left beyond that is the fact it does not have ETA stampings on it, looks very close.

My next project is going to be a Noob/Swiss ETA hybrid with incabloc mod. for my ultimate fiddy.

  4. My small Panerai collection:

DSN 127 Swiss ETA 6497 with incabloc mod, lever mod and pin mod.

DSN 217 A 6497 with incabloc mod, lever mod and pin mod.

Pam 253 A 7750 with Blue second hand mod.

    H factory Pam 243L with A 7750

    Noob 187 with A 7753

Old school Pam 196 with 7750

    Incabloc mod on 127

    Incabloc mod on 217

I would eventually like to buy the new 217 with the correct text on bridge and mod the incabloc on it.

    Thanks for looking.......

  5. Thanks tourby for your reply, I'm only a newbie trying a new hobby :thumbsupsmileyanim: , This is my first mod. I am pretty good on the mechanical part of playing with watches. I managed to fix my cannon pin problem with out changing the cannon pin, I just sanded down the minute hand and bored it out, and presto it looks great. In the process I scratched the hands a little. Now I now better. As for the dial, well I tried to relume and it all went wrong, one word ACETONE. I checked the members section and found davidsenjpn is this it? I don
