  1. eLiNK i'm not going to replace our dealers with new unsure sites, i just want to see if i can find some models we can't get from our trustful dealers. Sometimes it'a a fact ..even though a bit risky.

If you email Angel & Jay @ silix-prime/silixwatch, and send a pic or tell them what you are looking for, they will source the watch for you. Narikaa also constantly seems to have a very unusual collection, and would be worth an email too. TTK has also come up with the less well known reps fairly often, and all take care to find them in the best quality they can find. Plus, dealing with our group of sellers, you know you're in good hands. Good luck with your hunt . . . that's at least half the fun!

  2. Perfect fit, it just snapped right in

    ??????

Not doubting your word at all, but I was under the impression that except for the vintage MBW/WM reps, the inner lip on a gen bezel insert needed to be sanded/ground down for it to fit properly . . .

OK watch wizards . . . what OTHER Rollie rep do you know of that can do that . . . besides his . . . ?????

  3. Wow Chris, you've done some really nice stuff. Beautiful woods too. Love that look with the cherry in 293. Nice to see the water based finish is coming along that much now. I still use nitrocellulose lacquer, water white gloss when I do anything light, and Sherwin gloss on the rest. Have a Binks 2000 that still does whatever I need, and I'll do three to five coats of gloss, cut, and if I need a softer look, a coat of semi on top. And no, I wouldn't DARE spray it in my basement . . . open the doors in the shop, crank the fans, tighten up the mask & ready to roll.

  4. OK, I'll try to not get all frothy here again. (hey, I suggest YOU do a search for irate posters who can't understand why pompus posters get so incensed at newbie posters. By-Tor and I went 12 rounds over this a few weeks ago). First of all, if you think my posts in a topic dialogue were meant to pad my post count, then your many references to saving time and effort here are explained and itls pretty obvious you really don't know what a DISCUSSION board is all about.

OUCH . . . maybe you couldn't tell I was just teasing you about a post count because you didn't see me smile with my glasses on . . . :^) . . . better ?? Sorry, but I've hated that stupid yellow Smiley Face ever since the first time I saw it & WILL NOT use them in any post/email/PM/IM of mine.

"many" references to saving time and effort" ??????

I mentioned ONCE "If YOU want to do a time saving see who you think has the best ______ thing ??" Saying if YOU want to contribute to this board, and this is a subject that seems to interest you, and to you seems like a good idea getting all this info on Rollie Subs together in one place, I gave what I thought

would be a decent idea for YOU to put together without the stupidass subjective "Who has the best" overtone to it.

"it's pretty obvious you really don't know what a DISCUSSION board is all about. "

Really?? Wow, I've only been on the net for 9 years now, been on bunches and bunches of "discussion" boards even before they became instant posting like this one. I always read thru the place & get familiar with the feel of the board, who seems to post a lot, who seems to be knowledgeable and active on the board, and then try to make intelligent posts when I feel like posting something.

"A time saving thing"??????? What sort of hurry are you in here?

None what-so-ever. I'm more than willing to take the time, read thru reviews, posts, replies, search other boards, and gather my information that I feel I need, and then post a hopefully well thought out and reasonably intelligent question that I may have based on my research and new found knowledge on the subject.

what constantly amazes me is you can ask who's got the best pam or omega po and you will get lots of positive responses but the second you say sub the [censored] hits the fan.

hk, the only reason I mentioned Sub was because that happened to be the watch of choice posted with this thread. I would have the same opinion no matter WHAT watch was chosen for this topic. There are too many other ways to glean this information from this board and its members with intelligent, well thought out and more specific questions about ___________ replica watch.

New post: Looking to buy a Sub

Description: Have narrowed it down to these three.

Post: I've read reviews, descriptions, etc on Subs from dealers A, B & Q. A's has this that & those, B's has them those & thats, and I really couldn't find jack about Q's. Who has one & what do you think about it? And what do you think about Q's compared to the other two?

    Tough stuff, huh?

i really don't get it. it's like nobody has the balls to say, in my opinion this watch has the best overall look. yea they all have flaws and yea it depends on witch flaws you can live with but damn if you ask for a helping hand some people are just waiting in the wings to cut your nuts off. so much for a disscussion board where everybody shares their opinions and ideas for the good of the members.

Not the least bit interested in cutting anybody's anything off at all. And, the point is that everybody DOES and HAS shared their opinions and ideas for the good of the members, just not in one spot on one thread. THAT is why I SUGGESTED to crys if the subject intetests him that much, to put a new post together with all the info he's gathered about Subs and put links to all those posts in his new post, and ask people to add new links when and as they find them, or new ones come up. Actually, I think it's a pretty good idea for any or all of the popular watches. I don't feel it should be Admin' job, or the moderators or co-admins, but if a member wanted to do that, I'd bet it could be pinned or sticky'd at the top of one of the forums. That "best" thing is what just messes the whole thing up.

"In my opinion this watch has the best overall look."

And I look at the pic you posted and think you must be blind in one eye & can't see for jack outta the other because those crap CGs make it look horrible, and a concave pearl ?? That watch sucks !! . . .

    You know what I mean.

I'd sooooo much rather participate in a discussion thread where enthusiastic questions are asked than to be lectured to by 6 megaposters who berate me and others for being "too lazy to do a detailed search".

Well, ya sure can't mean me as a mega poster . . . don't think I've hit a hundred yet . . . and found RWG1 a year ago this month . . . between the two, I probably don't have 300. I do apologize for saying you were lazy . . . until I read your next couple lines, I really didn't know that you had researched your REAL question . . . it was just my opinion at the time based on what I had read so far.

I have searched the archives for the meat of the discussion here. Guess what? There is little if anything pertaining to MBW modern sub replicas. Questions and answers about the fluid topic of the best of the most copied watch in the world are not going to be answered in a 3 month old thread.

    AH HA !! 8^)

So THAT'S your real question !!

    You couldn't find enough info on Luckyyy's MBW A1 16610 modern Sub . . .

Then why didn't you ask THAT question . . . kinda like the "rep" one I posted to hk . . . actually, I cheated . . . I'd already read this post of yours, but that "rep" post would have come off a lot better, and probably would have gotten you a more detailed and faster answer.

I've been a period woodworker for 20 years and I can't tell you how many times the trade publications run "Best router for use in a router table" polls and articles. Know why? Because the product is always changing.

Cool, I've done ultra high end custom cabinets and furniture for about the same . . . backed off quite a bit the last 6 years or so though cause of some back problems . . . that's when I went back to school & got my puter degree. Always got a good feeling of satisfaction when a job got completed, knowing what I put into it, and how long the people will have the piece I built.

What the heck is the problem in asking "Hey, does Luckyy really sell 440 grade stainless Submariners and has anyone out there had one in their hands recently?"

Nothing at all . . . do a new post and ask!

other than apparently messing the hair of a few so called experts who believe "we've been there...done that".

    Can't be talking about me again . .. I'm definitely no expert . . .

    crys

I really wasn't trying to be mean or sarcastic when I mentioned doing another post with all your Rollie info links. You seemed to be into gathering up the info on the Subs and keeping it together in some kind of list/post or what ever. I don't want to do it, but I'd definitely read it and use it. I'm sorry, but I just don't like the "who's got the best" posts. We're adults here, and hopefully are capable of sifting through the information available here and either asking questions based on what we've read, and haven't gotten the answers to, or form our own opinions with the info available at the time.

    But that's just my opinion . . . I could be wrong . . .

  5. :D "Echo"drive? So that explains the tick..tick..tick..tick..tick.. it's an echo.

Then it must be REALLY good, huh ?? That present really shocked me. I love the little guy with all my heart and know how caring and giving he is especially at Christmas, but . . . wow . . . really nice two tone, blue face w/date . . . no cyclops though, and is it ever tiny & hard to see . . . but still a beautiful watch.

Oh yea, my ETAs don't really tick . . . they just go wsssssshhhhhh around the dial . . .

Seriously, I have a couple digital watches with altimeters and thermometers and stuff, and they are VERY useful in the backwoods. Can't argue there.

I would think that a trek off into the woods up in your territory, you definitely go well prepared. Got to be a little different than parkin the car, and taking a walk down the trails in the local park here.

And I still like your "durable" tale of smackin the Rollie on the boat railing . . .

    8^)

What's the point of having something that is indistinguishable from the original in a replica if no one knows what an original looks like.

Yea, but there are a LOT of people who do know what a vintage Sub/SD looks like. Why do you think a MBW/WM can command the kind of price and respect that it gets ??

Wow, Hey Ubi . . . you sure musta wasted the dogsnot outta your time & $$ on that Daytona, huh?

...and I submit, anyone who thinks another "who has the best sub" thread here is a waste of time needs to read these posts. This is an ever shifting target and never fails to inspire interesting dialogue.

I've read the posts & your post count sure went up with this one, huh . . . 8^)

crys . . . except for the common knowledge that the MBW/WM VINTAGE Subs/SDs ARE the best, because they are so far above all the others out there, it's still rather stupid to ask who has the best. All you're doing is being too lazy to read all the individual reviews and postings that are all over this, and three other boards, and trying to get a handfull of them all together here on your post . . . for everybody's good ????.

The main point is . . . BEST IS SUBJECTIVE !!!!

Who has the best ribs?? How about wings ?? Pizza ?? Who's got the best manifold/carb setup for my TA . . . or should I go with fuel injection?? a turbo ?? and whos?? How about the best finish for my deck ?? Oh yea?? that's what you all think is best ?? BLAAAH . . . the sauce on those ribs tastes like crap . . . to me . . . and you call those ranch wings ?? Whos cattle ranch were they drug thru before they over cooked them ?? That pizza is the best ?? To borrow one from Rodney, "That tastes like low grade dog food." And that carb sucks up twice the gas of my old one for only 8 hp gain ?? And that crap I put on my deck still isn't dry after 3 days !!! But you all STILL think your pick is the best . . . because it's the best for YOU . . . but not for me. Instead of just taking yours, and who ever elses opinions as being the best, I would have done better for myself if I took some time and did some reading and did some research. Go thru the posts on this board, do a search on Subs or SDs, or Omegas or Pateks, and on this dealer or that . . . then do the same on TRC . . . and do it again at RWI . . . and take a look over at WT . . . After doing all that, and reading the replies and what flaws others saw on these reps, I could make a pretty good choice of which one is BEST for ME. It has these particular flaws, but I can live with those. So, again, I can make an informed choice.

If YOU want to do a time saving see who you think has the best ______ thing ?? Start a new thread. Pick which ever watch you want. Subs?? Sure. Go thru the board, and dealer review, and any other forum, use the search button. Make your list of all the posts you find, brake 'em down by dealer, model, price, movement, whatever. Post your thread with your list, and ask anyone who finds a post about one of the ones you have picked to please add a link to that post also. And you, or anyone who finds a post/review on a NEW model from Xdealer to add that to the list also. That way you and whoever wants to can go to one place and find tons of links to all the models and dealers out there on that particular watch, and everyone can read them and decide for THEMSELVES . . . who has the best __________.

  6. HEY

    Whaddaphuque . . .

If I order a replica copy of a genuine watch worth more than I make in a week and the goddam dealer can't guarantee the next day or two day deliverie . . .

what ever HIS problem is . . .

whatdaphuque am I even doing thinking about getting the phaqueking watch anyway ???????

    just curious . . .

    8^)

  7. Who has the best ?????

If you mean VINTAGE, then yes a MBW/WM is by far the best, for all the reasons given on this thread, and all the reasons given in numerous threads. AND like was mentioned in this thread, people still mod these very accurate vintage watches even further with genuine parts, CG work, etc.

Who has the best modern Sub . . . not modded ???

    I DO !!!!

Or, at least I feel I do. It's a PT 'Ultimate" and the only thing that bothers me just a little, I feel the date mag could be just a little bigger. Does it have other flaws? Yea, but those are all but un-noticeable to me, especially without digital magnification, or a loupe. If I need to do that to see them . . . they don't bother . . . ME.

I've read on this thread that TW Best is best. Others think Luckyyy's MBW A1 16610 is best, and I would think PT's ultimate would get its share of votes. The problem with people asking . . . yes, I'm gonna say it . . . the stupidass question of who has the best, is what may be best to me, isn't to someone else. Maybe "near perfect" crown guards are not the highest priority to you, but are to me . . . a flat pearl bugs the helloutta you, and me, but not Fred/Sam/whoever . . . the date font, the crown logo on the dial, the bold m on the LV . . . sorry, but the only way someone is going to find out which Sub or which ANY is best for them is the old fashioned way . . . READ & RESEARCH! Read the reviews and what others say about the watch. If you can't find all the flaws . . . & I know I can't either . . . read what others say, and learn how they pick it apart. When you've done your homework, YOU will know where the flaws in the different dealers watches are, and YOU can decide what you can live with, and which is the best _________ for you.

BTW . . . I REALLY do know who has the best _________

    It's the one that's gonna come out about a week after I buy mine . . .

And I am serious about that . . . maybe not a week, but HOPEFULLY the next model out won't be one step forward & two steps back, but the latest batch of Subs that came out at a rather rapid pace ALL were better/improved over the previous one. Plan on that happening when you buy your rep . . . there's gonna be a better version coming out, and it just might have that one flaw fixed that's makin you start to regret your last purchase.

Go find YOUR best Sub & best of luck to ya.

    8^)

  8. Have to agree with Ubi, seems today, the vast majority of people don't even look at your wrist or your watch. I have some old mid 80s Rollie reps that looking at now . . . gag, what POS they were . . . but the only comments I've ever got on those was, "nice watch." The other thing too I've gotten . . . I have a pink/magenta Lindy star saphire ring I bought when I was back in high school and wear on my left hand next to my wedding ring . . . I've had people ask about that when I'm wearing a Rollie rep, and never even see the watch! If they would ask about it, I would tell them that I'd be foolish to pay $4/$5k for a watch that you (meaning them, not us) couldn't tell from this WAY less than $1k replica with a Swiss movement in it . . . and then start telling them about the real world of replica watches . . . AND about the scammers.

    B

  9. WOW !!

Randy, that is absolutely AWESOME !!

A totally amazing project. That must have been a thrill and a half putting that together, and can imagine the gigantic rush when you put the last piece on it and got to look at your fantastic watch. Great pics as usual in a sharp layout with your concise captions that I've always enjoyed looking at and reading and usually learning something new . . . and this time got to look and read just for sheer pleasure. Congratulations on your finished watch project. This will definitely be one post for the archives that may never be topped.

  10. Check out Angel & Jay's silix-prime site. It loads slow as hell, but I know they use to have the 007 Omega with an ETA, and around $150 too. The only thing is they stopped taking PP . . . too many problems with getting their money, but they do give you a lot of other options. You can ask them your questions by emailing them & they will get back to you within a day or so. They are really good people and completely trustworthy, so the no PP is really no big deal.

    Here's the link & yea, it's a buck & a half.

  11. I'd argue that it's totally based on how you "carry" yourself, not what you wear, what you drive or any other "physical" manifestation of your wealth.

I have to agree with that totally. From going back to the mid 80s in S. Fla. One of the things I did in advertising, after the paper got shut down was working for my old boss at his boating & fishing mag. Got to hit a bunch of boat builders and performance shops from Miami up to Palm Beach. These were mega buck people, with boats (toys) costing more than most people's houses . . . even down there . . . most all were totally casual, shorts & a sport shirt or Tee, Topsiders or tennies & no socks or even flipflops. They'd drive the big 4 wheel drive stuff or big pickups & dualies. To look at them, you'd never guess they had that kind of $$$ . . . but talk to them for a bit, and you'd know they were worth a lot more than you first guessed.

    B

  12. . . . . and just like the good ole days . . . the forum page has timed out for the last couple hours . . . RWG1 is down again . . .

Uh Blade . . . why don't you talk to Admin and find out where he hosts his site and here too . . . your board is no good if nobody can get there . . .

    B

  13. When I first joined the forum at RWG, and was reading thru the boards, getting the lay of the land, I found The Zigmeister's excellent articles on mechanical movements, and from a real novice's perspective, there was no doubt what-so-ever the man knew what he was talking about. Nothing I have ever read has led me to believe anything but. I felt then, and still do now, that those articles should be a must read for anyone new to reps and this board. I've also read, for the longest time that in EU, palp was the person to contact, and again, have read nothing but good about the man and his work. Pics, when I first read of you working on watches, I found out you were in EU also, but got the impression you were doing this part part time. More like if a friend asked, or recommended one of theirs, you'd take it on. You are also very highly recommended, and have read nothing but good about your work also.

I also found rbJoe fairly early, and learned a ton from his articles too. When I got my first rep, it had some minor problems with it, and sent off an email to him. The reply came back so fast, I thought it must be an auto-reply, but it was Joe himself, sending me a note, and his job/pricing list of what all he does. He went out of his way to try and explain how with what I wanted done, instead of doing it all seperate, he'd switch this for that, and do this too, and he'd be fine with changing things around for me to get it done as cheaply as possible. I E'd him back the next night, and bang, again, replied right away. This time he suggested I call him the next day, late afternoon, when he finishes up his day with his company. Well, I called him, and got this very pleasant informative person on the Carolina end, and we ended up talking for about an hour. We talked about a lot more than just watches, but numerous times during the conversation when we were, he kept saying most of it is not that hard, just takes time and patience, and if I wanted to try and do it myself, if I got stuck to give him a call and he'd help me through it. He said he has his own company, and doing the watches was a fun hobby for him, and he really enjoyed working on them. I'm not saying that all the nay-sayers are wrong or lying, or anything, but my experience with him has been nothing but pleasant and informative. It seems to me that a person who will give you their personal phone number, home address, and offer to help you out on a do-it-yourself watch project, they don't seem to be the type to rip anybody off. I do feel bad for any of you who have had a bad experience with him, but I have no problems sending him my rep when I want something done to it that he can do as good as he does.

  14. Wasn't one of his comments in those last couple days something about bringing the forum back up so all the old knowledge would be preserved , but not letting people post ??

I remember the guy kinda dissin' RWI, which I thought was rather ignorant. Tim & all set up that site for the same reasons the gang here did. And he did say he was lurking around here for a while before his magical reappearence at RWG1, and I thought complimented the founders here for their work & efforts.

I know a bunch of you got burned by him with the RWG watch thing, and yea, I'd be POd at him for that too, and not too awfully forgiving of him either. As far as deserting the board, if he really was tossed in jail for a few, that's a pretty good reason for his absence. Yea things got really outta hand near the end, but I quite honestly don't remember him doing a whole lot of posting there anyway since last summer when I joined up. I know I really didn't frequent the board that much until into fall time, but there really isn't any memorable post I could attribute to him anyway.

I don't plan on rushing rite over there first thing in the AM, but I'm sure I'll check it out to see what all is left there. Everybody did a great job of saving and moving a ton of the old info posts over here, so there probably won't be much of anything that was missed, but hopefully, it will give enough of an opportunity to go back and double check, and anything that was missed can be copied and brought here to it's new home.

  15. Ahhhh... RGM... How could I forget Mr. Murphy? His creations are masterpieces! I love his gorgeous engine turned dials... Without a doubt, one of my favorite watchmakers.

I think they are located around Lancaster, PA, about 5 hours from me. I've been half thinking for a bit to take a weekend & head out there to check it out. They have a more affordable line that's pretty good looking too. Some day, maybe . . .

  16. post-70-1149388750_thumb.jpg

The | moon-phase display is computed so accurately that it deviates only one day from the true | synodic lunar orbit in 1000 years, provided the watch runs accurately and without interruption for that long. Because of this extreme precision, the display is not set to the correct date, but instead - with the help of an exact moon-age table - to the correct hour. Lange's watchmakers incorporated this amazing astronomical mechanism in a movement that is only 3.85 mm high and has a diameter of 27.5 mm.
