  1. More importantly; Why are you keeping your watch in the freezer? But as Nobby mentioned...I too; have no idea, but that watch looks really cool.
  2. Thanks... Its a Gen... Thought about selling it a few times, but this is the picture that keeps me from putting it on the chopping block.
  3. Looks blue most of the time, but when I get sad it changes to purple. It's Panerai's mood watch. Purple(ish) in certain light; but it is blue at most angles. (If that makes sense)
  4. Thanks: I had the Sinn...I must say I like it better than the tegimented 757 I had. This has gone from the bottom of the watchbox to a frequent wearer.
  5. My 228 is complete... I am not a blue dialed watch guy, but like all of my watches; I decide whether to keep or sell after I have modded the cr@p out of them... Anyway; to my suprise: The 228 is a keeper!!! -This started as a donor watch that I got from another member here. (DSN model) -2Geek DW (Had to beg Vac to remove the paint off the teeth) -Freshly serviced A7750 -lume by our very own Vac. -T Crown -CG refinished and pin flushed. -Strapped on a Wotan Egi Strap. Now I have seen other complain about the dial being too purple...I havn't seen the gen in person, and from what I can tell, I think this sucker is a keeper. Daytime Lume:(night pics came out too blurry...need another photo shoot)
  6. So I get this Kobold Seal in a trade... Having never really seen one in person, I found it to be a very nice watch. Big and chunky...Any did I mention VERY OVERPRICED at the retail side and very reasonable second hand. Anyway, here is what I originally got in a trade: Feeling a little bored with it...I decided to take it upon myself to turn this bad boy into something a little different, and something I haven't seen yet... (It seems Kobold had the same idea and made this very watch...I thought it was a 1 of a kind, but I was wrong) Anyway... Check out this DLC'd Kobold Seal on oem croc strap... SMOKIN!!!! (And Avitt did a fantastic job on this coating)
  7. I feel the need to start posting over here more often...So in that effort, I figured the easiest way was to post up some of my babies... 009 My Number 1 favorite rep in the box has got to be my 009: -Old PVD DSN case set that I lightly brished matte with a cape cod. -FGD Dial refinished and lumed by Flav -DSN CG matching with a flush pin -T Crown -Swiss 6497 -1st or 2nd Gen Tan Dirk... (PERFECT for this watch) Probably my most commented on watch too. 002: -DSN case set -DSN CG refinished by me. (DSN sends a brushed cg. I modified it a bit and polished her right up) -FGD Dial refinished -T Crown -OEM "Vintage" strap 201a -DSN Case set -Sead CG -T Crown -FGD Dial refinished -Jakob Case back -Dirk burgundy strap -Nice replica PreV Box made by another member... Thanks for looking.
  8. Thanks guys... This one is super nice...I debated for a while over a Phantom 01-92, but with soooo many manual Panerai with no date. I needed one with more complications. The only real other B&R contender was the military edition...I eventually opted for this one. I think a wise decision. I like it soooo much more than the Breitling Aerospace; and I have never met anyone with one of these...
  9. I am a catch and release guy...I buy it, try it; and 90% of the time: sell it. Very few have lasted in my box. This one was noce; but I need to fund other projects... Base dials tend to stick around a little longer for me...
  10. Alright...I just sold this one; but before shipping I did a little photoshoot... (BIG MISTAKE) Now I wanna keep it.
  11. Just to fit in with the 002, 009, 112, 201a (in the works); I present to you my 232: Cartel/DSN mashed together on a San Dave Croc... In looking at the pics...The strap looks like beef jerky...I think I want to eat it...
  12. Quick pics of probably one of my favorites in the ole watchbox... Enjoy.
  13. Ahhhhh... Okabum... The creator speaks... If you don't mind me asking: What type of metal was used for that dial? If brass; what the heck did you use so that the dial stays black?
  14. SMOKIN!!!!!! Just dropped my deposit about 20 minutes ago...
  15. It is all pretty fun... I have sooooo many disassembled watches and dials...Every now and then; I like something; so I put it together and eventually sell it...
  16. If they would ONLY come out with the NON-Chrono version... Give me a few weeks and I will have a complete side-by-side gen to rep comparison... Buddy has the gen of this watch; and we really want to compare the Rose Gold finish; as well as the other details.
  17. I am a BASE dial fan.... (112 is my absolute fav too) FGD 201a is under construction... 232 is awaiting a photoshoot... Thanks for the comments...
  18. Feels quite nicely on the wrist... Not too big; not too small. Strap is not too bad... Carbon Fiber-esque; but very soft and confortable. As for the wristie... Please excuse my wristie-retardation pictures. My hands shake more than a 90 year old with parkinsons... (please don't be offended)
  19. Ole Puretime has come through again for me... Communication has really turned around...No more trying to get Peter...Although none of my communication was with someone named "Angus," Puretime sure did respond well within 24 hours of every question. Shipping and buying was just plain easy. Anyway... Although not the most accurate rep out there, this one is still quite nice... The first give away on this one is that the seconds are running at 9. The gen has sec. at 6. (Notice the numbers are all wrong... (Rep: 60, 15, 30, 45) (Gen: 12, 3, 6, 9) Seeing that I have never met ANYONE who owns (much less heard of) Blancpain; I got this because their watches just look RIGHT!!! The subdials sizes look slightly off, especially at 6. The date is slightly sunken on this one, but definitely not the worst I have ever seen. The rose gold is not too bad...Looks a little copper/bronze, but not bad for something other than DLC/PVD/SS... The AR SUCKS!!!! It makes the dial look slightly blue and it hides the slightly innaccurate but still appealing details of the dial. The bezel has pretty decent lume for being factory lume, and the clicking is just about on par with any rep bezels I have felt thus far. Not rattling, but slightly wobbly from left to right. Probably needs some floss. Here are a few shots I just took: Overall not bad...I would have preferred a non-chrono, but that would just be too easy/accurate for the factories to produce. Gen pic for reference:
  20. So it all started this morning... 1. Stripped a few dials I had on hand... One in particular turned out to be a "good" accident...I call this one the anomally dial... When stripping dials; 99% of them come out shiny brass... This "anomally" remained black; but the text was instantly stripped; revealling the brass underneath... Now I have a very nice looking black finished dial with brass text... End result was a complete accident and looks really cool... In addition to the above; my airbrush decided to start acting screwie... Every now and then, it would spurt a blob of paint. As opposed to the usual smooth covering. In the end; the texture of the dial is a bit heavy. I am not overly concerned, as the result came out alright. Here are some play-by-play... Just painted and time to cook: After baking at 350 for 7 minutes: I then filled the indices with resin...A new method I use is mixing a TON on lume with the resin and binder... I think they came out nicely: And one of my nearly completed dials: On another method. I left my 2 liner dial in its shiny brass condition and simply soaked it in my magic aging solution to turn it black. (Sorry, forgot to take pictures befor and after) Here it is; my new 2-liner with aged brass dial (now a matte black/gray color with slightly aged hands) Completely assembled... I can take better pics outside when it stops raining...
  21. In an effort to "broaden my horizon" I thought I would bring a few of my posts over here... At least the ones I thought were somewhat useful... Lets start with the caseback and some movement defects... CASEBACK: 1. Font on the rep caseback is too thick. 2. Case serial numbers are in the wrong place... Notice the position on the gen... The numbers are engraved between the edge and the lug screws. The rep has them engraved too big and closer to the center 3. The gen caseback is thinner on the outer edge. Notice how much room is covered by the "bezel" of the rep caseback. Almost makes the gen case appear to be larger than the rep. (Gen on the left) Using the same pic...You can find MANY MANY differences on the movement. 1. Engraved lettering on the gen is either black or dark blue... (Hard to tell from some pics I have found. The rep looks to have no color at all...Just simply engraved. 2. The gen Minerva has rounded edges on the plates, as well as looking polished edges... The Rep is very rough looking with sharp edges. 3. The Serial number engraving is completely different. 4. The swan neck/dagger neck on the gen has a small sharp needle look. The rep looks to be the same ole dagger. 5. Shock system is completely different. 6. Notice the brass wheel in the center of the gen...It is brass. The rep has normal SS. 7. Although the rep plates seem to be engraved and not stick-on plates...It is still far away from being DEAD ON... 8. I applaud the effort to try something new by the rep factories, but like 99% of the rep movements...It just doesn't hold a candle to the original. Closer look at the movements: If you can't tell which is gen; then stop reading... PROFILE SHOT: 1. Check out the sharp edges on the gen... edges come to a nice subtle point...The rep is squared off at the ends. 2. The bezel on the gen has a more subtle curve to the crystal and the rep only protrudes a tiny bit then begins a long slope to the crystal. 3. Crown... Need I say anything... The pic speaks for itself. DIAL: 1. Please excuse my lighting...The rep dial color is actually not too bad...Maybe a tad lighter than the gen; but VERY hard to capture in pics. 2. Lettering is not too bad... Rep suffers from the typical errors in the LOW "A" bar. It also suffers from the funny looking "R" 3. Hands look a little too fat compared to the gen. I have not really compared the gold fluted inner bezel, AR, Lume, and a few other topics that are already flying across the boards...So forgive me. Overall; like many of our beloved reps...We grow a tolerance to certain inherent flaws. In my opinion; I can live with these... Although I am normally a SOLID CASEBACK type of rep collector...I applaud the fact that the rep factories are trying something new, and am willing to support it. As for the dial...I still wear many reps with the same flaws; so I can live with it. All in all; a nice watch that is fun to wear and looks nice...I have yet to run into anyone that would have the capability to call me out on it; and in fact, have already received several compliments. I like it, and I can live with these issues... It is our imperfections that make us unique...And this is one unique watch. Thanks and hope you enjoyed this.
  22. Perfect seller... No problems whatsoever!!!
