I agree that some AD's don't know what their talking about, but what is wrong with running the chrono on a partial wind? B.

The Zigmeister, your soooo right.....the 861 / 1861 movements are sweet. I have both rep and gen Speedmasters as well....and the display back of the rep fits the gen perfectly. Well, at least mine does. My watchmaker tested the water resistance and it passed without any problems. Of course, the watch is only rated for a depth of 50 feet or so, so I'm not going swimming with it on. B.

Upside down crown guard works on my rep 111.....the only problem is that the dimensions of the 'lower half' of the guard is thicker than the top, so when reversed, the edges protrude from the case slightly. With a bit of sanding, it could be made to look more like the gen H series guard. B

My gen 111 does not hack...same as my rep 111. B.

Hi All, I've been testing out an idea to prevent "Strap Shrinkage" on my 24mm PAM leather straps. What 'shrinkage' am I talking about? I'm refering to the area of the strap between the lugs of the watch. 24mm straps often start of fitting snugly between the lugs, but after awhile, they begin to shrink (the leather..not the lugs ). What this results in, is a gap between the leather and the lugs. I hate this. What to do??? Remove the strap from the watch. Remove the tube from the strap. Use my fingers to stretch the leather back to its original width (its not very hard to do). Problem is that this never 'holds'. Inevitably, given time, it shrinks again. Here's my solution...(sorry...no pics right now cause my camera is at home). NOTE....I cannot take any responsiblilty for damage to your straps, etc. Do this at your own risk. It worked for me. 1. Remove the tubes from the strap, and stretch the strap back to its original width. 2. Carefully apply some rubber cement on the INSIDE of the leather where the tube goes. 3 . Rough up the tube with sandpaper and apply rubber cement to the areas of the tube on outer ends (no need for the middle of the tube to be glued). 4. Wait for everything to dry (15-20 min). 5. Carefully and quickly insert the tube back into the strap. Making sure everything lines up, apply some pressure to bond the surfaces. Voila....the tube now provides enough support to prevent the leather from shrinking. NOTE.....Its still possible to remove the tube from the strap without damaging the leather. From what I've found, all it takes is a good push to break the bond between the metal and the leather. When I get home, I'll try to find another strap which has the problem and see if I can add some pics to the instructions above. B.

Thanks for the info.... So...if I throw a set of OEM screws onto my rep, the 'screw-end' will be recessed and not flush like in the gen? B.

V, Can you post a pic comparing the OEM, REP, and aftermarket screws side-by-side? I'm curious to see if the OEM's are actually longer in length (threaded portion) or if its because of the lug thickness on the rep 44mm case. B.

Hi Gran, I'm from Toronto and can recommend a few places for you to visit, etc. Unfortunately, I'm heading up north to cottage country tomorrow morning (its a holiday weekend here in Canada), so I can't meet up. I'll assume your staying somewhere downtown. Some of the obvious tourist attractions you can check out are: CN Tower Hockey Hall of Fame AGO (Art Gallery or Ontario) / ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) Blue Jays (baseball) game on Friday (not sure what time your leaving Toronto) The ROM and AGO are currently undergoing renovations...there are still exhibits there, but I'm not sure if there are areas that are shut down. Best to check first. Toronto has TONS of restaurants/bars/clubs to go to. I'm not sure what your 'scene' is..but let me know and I can recommend a few places that would be good. If there is anything in particular your interested in, let me know and I can try to recommend something. B.
